From the minute you sign up to drive, you become part of a team. Communication is excellent, and safety for both kitties and drivers is VERY important. In order to drive one must be approved and show proof of insurance. A coordinator takes charge of arrangements and is always available. There are backup drivers in case of an emergency. Everything is covered, from the minute you leave the house to the time you return home. I'm not sure why anyone would leave a negative comment about this all volunteer group. You do NOT have to donate money in order to drive EVER! Some complain about wait times. That's because it takes time to make sure that the kitties are vetted, ok to travel and MOST IMPORTANTLY going to safe and good homes. I can't wait to drive again!

A love train…read more URRKN stands for Underground Railroad Rescue Kitty Network and was started by Tina LaBlanc in Oct of 2011. It's a way of transporting kitties from shelters, foster homes and temporary homes to their "forever homes". It's basically a series of wonderful volunteers that are willing to transport cats from one place to another. One long trips each volunteer will drive whatever distance they feel comfortable and then meet another volunteer at a prearranged location. On a long trip it might be many volunteers that selflessly give their time and transportation to help the kitty get to it's finally destination. A person waiting for the kitty can actually keep track on the progress as the cat travels on it's "love train". We recently adopted a kitty from Florida that had to be transported to Rhode Island. We contacted URRKN and volunteers were quickly arranged so our kitty, Gersemi, arrived to us quickly and in great health and spirits. There is no charge for this incredible service but of course donations are accepted. It all depends on the kindness and generosity of strangers who anonymously do good without asking for anything but a simple thank you. The volunteers of the URRKN along with Tina LaBlanc, are doing great deeds in a quiet way. Wow, what a great Christmas event yesterday…read more Toys, toys, and toys. Multiple school sports teams, ROTC, and several American Legions all came out to assist local volunteers in celebrating. Santa came, and all were fed hot food, were able to get items from the pantry, and enjoyed music and community. Check out all services offered year-round.

Things are well organized and easy to look through. The men's clothing selection is quite small so just be prepared. But once I got there, I saw they had all their paperwork clearly posted, and the people were warm, responsive, and genuinely caring. They took the cats in without hesitation and made sure everything was done properly. It ended up being a really positive experience, and I felt safe leaving the animals in their care. They're clearly doing good work for animals in need, and I think they deserve community support and donations to keep going.

I also want to give a special shout-out to the St. Mary's Food Bank staff for their exceptional organization and warm welcome. Joseph, in particular, was fantastic. He made the experience lighthearted while still keeping us in line (pun not intended) and he even took song requests from Prince Fans (Purple Rain). I once lived in a bountiful where an immense freezer could be filled with earth's goodness of vegetables and fruits for a small expense in miles and cash. Not that easy in Arizona. The freezer was donated to St. Mary's - and welcomed. We keep our pantry stocked. When the "Best By" dates geow near on pantry goods, they are donated to St. Mary's and refreshed. I want to contribute quality to those less blessed than I have been. And, St. Mary's, being a religious organization charity, blesses families, and individuals with the foundation of living - food. The staff was very welcoming and assisted in getting him settled and helped in hooking up his electronics. The outdoor space, off the patio, was large and the grounds were well maintained. It was nice for our friend to be able to look out and have a park-like setting beyond his patio. The staff was very friendly, kind and accommodated out friend's every need. They were very professional and facilitated doctor appointments, arranged transportation and always kept us informed as to the health condition of our friend as well as the overall status of the facility. Administration personnel kept on top of monthly finances and, also, government paperwork. Our friend, also, spend some time in the skilled-nursing section and was treated with the same compassion and dedication he received in the assisted-living section. Overall, we felt confident in the care our friend received.
