We snagged an early Saturday morning reservation and there were a few birthday parties setting up which probably made the place feel more crowded than usual. Thankfully the crowd started a while after we already enjoyed most of the space. I think the layout is great for catering to the varying age groups. My son tried everything lots of times and only wanted to leave because of the crowd. Staff was helpful and all the equipment was cleaned well, will definitely be back.

But, I think I've kept this awesome Burlington trail a secret for long enough. Let me start by saying that there is a park area with a playground and covered shelter and grill that looks nice and clean! On our most recent visit, there was a big cookout going on, and all of the parking spaces in the small lot were full. Don't be concerned if that's the case when you arrive ... there's plenty of street parking available in the surrounding neighborhood. And - even if the play area is full of people, we've never seen another person on the actual trail beneath the park. This trail is not for hiking amateurs. You can except a VERY steep climb back uphill at the end of your visit. There is a side path that's a little less steep - but it's very rocky with lots of switchbacks. I definitely recommend this trail for more experienced hikers. If you are a beginner and still want to check it out, just be sure you know what you're getting into. It's definitely worth the climb! My husband and I often bring our dogs for a quick spin around this trail, on both weekday and weekend mornings. When you get down to the actual river, there's plenty of wildlife to check out. Most recently, we enjoyed the blooming Honeysuckle plants, but steered clear of a few snakes in the water. Be sure to watch where you step. Check out Gunpowder Creek the next time you're looking for a unique nature hike with a bit of a challenge. You won't be disappointed.

There are so many ramps and inclines and towers and bridges and forts and and and ... it's almost overwhelming. Just so much stuff! What else? There are slides galore, even a slide that is made out of small pipes that move as you slide. There are two of these! Monkey bars, balancing beams, swings, teeter totters, a climbing rock and much, much more. One of the neat things about this park is that it is built so that it's accessible for everyone. There are lots of ramps, so people in wheelchairs have an easy time enjoying the playground, too. There is a huge field here, which would be perfect for running around or flying a kite. There is also one short basketball hoop. Freedom Field Park is attached to an elementary school, so the playground is open to the public every day EXCEPT Monday through Friday from 10:30 to 1:30 when school is in session. Every other time, you can play 'til your heart's content.

I found Magic Land Cafe online and it looked like such a fun place for the little guys. So, I booked an "appointment" for one day. Then we had some illness take over and they were more than happy to adjust our time. Their customer service is excellent. We were warmly greeted and welcomed. They have so much stuff for the kids to do!! My little guys absolutely loved their time at Magic Land Cafe. Outside food and drinks aren't permitted, but they do have a coffee bar and other snacks and drinks. We ended up getting some juice and chips for the kids and a bottle of water for me. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't super expensive either. Socks are required for everyone in the play area - including parents. Many parents hang in the cafe area, too. It's a great place for parents to let their kids play while they might have some light work to do. There are also a couple of massage chairs ($10 for 30 minutes, $7.50 for 21 minutes) that could be nice to utilize. The kiddos played for 3 hours straight with about a 10 minute time out for snacks. Their pricing is comparable to many other kid play places in the area. My little guys want to go back again, which we will.

You can literally fill a whole morning/half day with these three spots alone. The Commons is open to the community and free. Their are playscapes ideal for toddlers up through elementary school. There's even a disc golf course and a cute bridge that makes it feel extra scenic. The paved trail is pretty hilly, which honestly made for a great workout walk, and it's also good for bikes if you don't mind a few climbs. The absolute highlight for me was the access to the beautiful creek running through the park. There are also nice little habitat areas that would be great for bird watching. Public bathrooms are available, though they weren't the cleanest when I visited. There was some trash around, but there are plenty of trash cans, so hopefully that improves with use. It's surrounded by townhouses but open to the public and feels welcoming. Overall a great local park for families, walks, casual sports, or just relaxing by the creek.
