Our other dog, "Pearl" remained home with us, during this time. While on-site reviewing the training at the Best Retrievers facility, our dog "Boomer" exhibited an unfamiliar cough. The cough, we initially thought, was due the use of a training choke collar. 7/22/23, an ER veterinarian, confirmed that our dog "Boomer" that was in the care of Best Retrievers for two months up until 7/21/23, has both kennel cough, and pneumonia. Green mucus was excreting from the snout, as well as both eyes. A photo taken at the ER vet dated 7/22/23 at 1:55 PM CST, is attached to this review. Best Retrievers was notified 7/22/23 at 4:18 PM CST via email, additional photo attached of email correspondence to Best Retrievers. 7/26/23 our other dog "Pearl", that remained home with us, while our other dog "Boomer" was at the Best Retrievers' facility, started exhibiting similar symptoms, and started being treated promptly 7/27/2023.

Her orbital exenteration was not a small procedure, and by the time we arrived at Dime Box, I wasn't just looking for medical skill. I was looking for steadiness. Transparency. The vet tech came out a couple of times to apologize for the wait and let me know he was still with them. My response was immediate: absolutely no problem whatsoever. Because to me, that spoke volumes. It told me that when it's your turn with Dr. Hervey, you matter. Your questions matter. Your fears matter. Your animal matters. You are not being hurried through so someone can move on to the next dollar. I ended up making the drive home before I had the opportunity to speak with him directly. Not long after arriving home, I received a personal text from Dr. Hervey letting me know he'd heard I had questions and asking how he could help. And he answered every single one of them. The peace that gave me after Lily's surgery is difficult to properly put into words, but it meant everything to me. Our female, Grace, had surgery a few years ago on her legs and needed special attention with her medication and is limited on what kind of exercise she can do. I was looking for something more than just a kennel I was looking for a place more personal that would pay attention to my dogs and their needs. I heard about the VHR Ranch and decided to give them a call, Vicki's very sweet and knowledgeable of animals. Our dogs were very comfortable after meeting Vicki and so were we. Their kennels are very clean and they took special notes on feeding, exercise and medication. We received updates and pictures while we were gone which put our mind at ease, our boy was played with and exercised every day and Grace went on short walks. We got the full package and had them groomed before coming home, they were beautiful and smelled great!

Twice now I have had to drive to the back of the store to load the bags of MiracleGro garden soil (2 cu ft) into my car. It must be someone's job to see to it that items that are normally placed in front of the store are actually there. If there is an empty pallet most people would assume the item is out of stock and proceed to buy it elsewhere.
