We've had some bad experiences with wasp infested splash pads lately but this one was not bad at all, I think I saw one flying around. Definitely a good amount of shading here, making it nice for the summer. My son had a lot of fun and this park was super clean and not overly crowded. We came here on Friday when there were very few people and we really enjoyed ourselves. If you have young kids...hot tip: Stop at the grocery store before coming here and buy a cheap loaf of bread to feed the birds. As a parent, I think that was the highlight of the visit. Feeding the birds: SO MUCH FUN! We brought a $2 loaf of bread and spent some time feeding the birds. My daughter shared with many other kids and boy, it was a joy to see them all light up and enjoy this activity. The birds will flock to you so it's a really fun activity for the kids. The playground: My daughter has not played on a playground since March when covid shut everything down here in San Diego/Carlsbad. So, after wiping down a few bars for her to climb on, she was in heaven climbing and being a kid. Maybe it's COVID fatigue or just the pure joy seen on my 5 year olds face, it was enough for me to be a bit more relaxed. I didn't have enough Clorox wipes to wipe down the entire playground...but sigh...the chances we take. She had fun going up and down that 3 story slide. The Train: For non-residents, we paid $4/each to ride the train and for a parent, I'd say it was ok. My daughter absolutely loved it though. Perhaps it was because they had the sprinklers going and we got really wet. Even though it was chilly, it made it more fun - maybe they should do that regularly. = ) It was a very short ride but a nice little 10-15 minute ride for the kiddos. I can't imagine kids over the age of 7 being thrilled about it but for my 5 year old, she loved it! During COVID, they block off every other seat/train car so you are safely distanced from others. We also brought plenty of wipes to wipe down seats and parts of the carts that we touched, like the railings etc. I did not see them do this in between rides. We didn't spend more than 2 hours here but it was a great way to spend the afternoon. We had so much fun, we returned on Saturday but there were far more people than the day before. We weren't really comfortable with the huge crowds so we just fed the birds and rode the train again. It was still tons of fun for us. At the very least, I'm sure we'll be back to feed the birds when we are back in the area.

Aside from having to wait an hour for the train to be repaired the experience was great…read more Unfortunately my grandson age 7 started to have heat stroke before the ride was fixed. We had to get him in the car and gave him water and we had left when half way back to Phoenix we got the text the train was fixed. We drove back and the ride is great. 10 min. But repair work should be done on the days the train does not run especially when you are taking about hot weather about 110 degrees daily even in the morning.

It has probably been ten years since I was last at this park -- mostly because I live on the opposite end of the Valley, but I still remember hiking the Go John Trail from twice that long ago. (Back then, we didn't have Internet-based recommendation systems or online trail guides, so we relied on books or the maps provided at the ranger stations.) That trail is no joke and the climb was a bit of a surprise as it has roughly 849 ft of elevation gain with some 10-15% grades over the course of nearly 6 miles. The elevation gain means some really nice desert views. I was here this time for a trail race, which is not run by the park, but we used the facilities and trails, which were well maintained and amazing to run on. I had a family of deer run across the trail about 100 yds in front of me on the home stretch of the race. I recommend all of the Maricopa County Parks and this one is no exception: each one has its own character and they're all worth visiting.

Slate Trail is a really enjoyable hike with classic Sonoran Desert scenery--towering saguaros,…read morerocky hillsides, and wide open views that make it feel peaceful without being remote. Parking was easy, and I appreciated the clean, convenient restrooms at the trailhead. That said, I do think the trail is slightly misrated. While it's listed as easy, the rocky footing and a few stretches with noticeable incline push it more into easy-moderate territory. It's absolutely doable, but hikers should be prepared for uneven terrain and some effort, especially if they're expecting a flat stroll. I brought my walking stick, and I'm glad I did. Overall, this is a beautiful, well-kept trail and a great way to experience Cave Creek Regional Park. With a more accurate difficulty rating, it would be a near-perfect hike.

Indoor joy for all! What a wonderful play place smack dab in the middle of the outlet mall. We took…read moreour 2 & 3 year olds to My Play Place for the first time and it was a huge hit with everyone! We donated a can good for the hungry and got a sweet discount so it was affordable. We signed up for 90 minutes, put on our grippy socks (bring your own or buy a pair there) and we went off the explore. My Play Place seems to have it all for various ages groups to enjoy. They have multiple ball pits for different levels, an indoor playground, cars and scooters to ride around, texture games, a coloring station, a mini grocery store, a dress up area, and lots more to keep you and the kids engaged and having fun for hours! Not only was there lots to do, but everything was immaculate and cleaned constantly. The wonderful woman in charge (whose name escapes me) was very friendly and making sure each and every thing was clean and put in its place (don't know how she does it all!). This place was incredible and we all had a blast. It'll be a place we enjoy regularly and is perfect rain or shine!

They have childcare camps available year round, which was really helpful during the holiday break last month for my friends who had to work. Security is required for checking your child in/out. The staff were friendly and gracious when we were there. Looked spotless, too.
