"I was a dedicated patient at Counseling Care from 2018 until recently, when I was forced to…read moreterminate my relationship with this clinic due to severe safety and ethical concerns. 1. Dangerous Medical Practices: In my family's experience, Dr. Lucas Bachmann made significant changes to a prescription regimen without first obtaining necessary medical records or performing a baseline evaluation of the patient. Making major medication adjustments without reviewing patient history or meeting the patient face-to-face is, in my opinion, medically negligent and deeply alarming. 2. Privacy Violations: During my time under Dr. Bachmann's care, I observed unauthorized individuals present during sensitive medical appointments without prior consent or introduction. This showed a complete disregard for patient privacy and standard clinical protocols. 3. Lack of Accountability: This clinic appears to operate without independent oversight. Because it is family-run, there is no neutral escalation path for grievances. When a provider fails you here, there is no one to hold them accountable. Context: I was transferred to Dr. Bachmann only after my previous provider at this location (Dr. Gavin Meany) was removed due to criminal legal proceedings. The decline in the standard of care since that transition has been absolute. Verdict: I strongly caution prospective patients--especially those with complex medical needs--to seek care elsewhere. The practices I witnessed here are unsafe."

I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone, especially LGBTQ and/or people of color patients who are looking for a knowledgeable and caring therapist of color here in the suburbs. I appreciated how she open-minded and considerate she was about a variety of different identity/experiences that I had. From my experience, she is familiar with trauma, LGBTQ, social justice, race, gender issues. I liked that I was not immediately prescribed drugs to fix the problem (like other therapists I have had); instead, we took the time to address the root causes of the problem, and I am sure that she would have worked with me to make a decision if medication was necessary. I would recommend Dr. Huang without any reservation, and also the receptionist Kelsey who is always so welcoming and remembers my name.

Between ages 3 and 10 Child Psychologists had diagnosed my son with everything under the sun: High…read moreFunctioning Autism, ADD, OCD, Dyslexia and Tourette's Syndrome. He struggled academically, behaviorally and with attention and social issues. These challenges involved every system of his brain and body. So, we did all the typical medical therapies and educational interventions including ABA, OT, ST medications, Orton Gillingham, social skills classes, diet changes, etc. Yet, by age10 and the end of 4th grade, my son was 3 years behind in school and couldn't manage 1:1 instruction let alone navigate an overstimulating classroom learning environment. Everyday was a challenge to get him to participate. That's when I found Brain Balance and his life changed forever. I can't thank Brain Balance enough! After 4 months in the program, I had a whole different son. Brain Balance got the two sides of his brain to communicate and synchronize. From there, skills he couldn't do before quickly came on board. Teachers in 5th grade were amazed at his improvements in all areas of development and interactions. He moved from the lowest math and reading groups to working at grade level in the broad classroom. His mid-year NWEA testing for math and language arts showed he was at or above grade level in all subjects. He made friends easily and participated in after school activities and sports for the first time. The Brain Balance program is unique and comprehensive. It succeeds where single issue therapies fail because it addresses all systems of the brain and body simultaneously and focuses on improving the weak areas of the brain so they connect and synchronize with the strong areas of the brain and create true functional improvements. In this way, it truly gets to the root cause of childhood neurodevelopmental disorders. The Brain Balance program is not easy and it's not covered by medical insurance, just as other non-medical programs. But it works and is well worth the investment of time and money. It includes intensive sensory, motor, cognitive and academic activities and stresses clean eating diet and nutrition protocols and healthy lifestyle changes. An average commitment of 3-6 months can result in life-changing results for your child and your family. After spending 7 years in other therapies, the 4 months we spent at Brain Balance was well worth the effort and it's taught us healthier ways to live life going forward. Unfortunately, many doctors and educators don't believe in anything but medication and special education accommodations. These just address the symptoms of these problems, not the root cause. So, it's often up to parents to discover programs like Brain Balance on their own. I hope I've given you something to think about and the inspiration to check out Brain Balance yourself to see if it is right for your child.

She started Brain Balance over the summer--when we had her IEP meeting after approx. 26 sessions, her teachers and therapists couldn't say enough good things about the changes they were seeing! They commented on how quietly she walked through the halls, sat in class and listened to everything, waited quietly while others spoke before speaking, and kindly helped a new student learn the routines. They talked about the huge increase in her reading comprehension, how quickly she was now picking up on multiplication tables and science concepts, and her improvements in her handwriting. They couldn't believe the growth over the summer! I was excited when I watched her meet a child her age--for the first time I listened to her ask socially appropriate questions and wait for the answers. The whole interaction went smoothly--I never had to intervene or explain her behavior. Her speech is now so clear that people who meet her for the first time can understand everything she says! When she talks--she makes comments that contribute to the conversation--not bring it to a grinding halt like she used to. She no longer wets the bed at night and I've seen a significant reduction in chewing on her clothing. She seems less anxious and more involved in what is going on around her. It is amazing to see how proud she is of herself--she knows that she is changing. I give credit where it belongs--Brain Balance of Woodbury! I know how hard they have worked with her and how much support they have given our whole family! I knew Brain Balance would help--but I never knew it would be so HUGE in such a short time! Everyone in the center wants the best for my daughter and want so much for her to succeed. I drive 3hours--one way--for sessions and I will continue for as long as necessary. They are worth the drive and more! This has been the best thing I could ever do for my daughter and for my whole family!

There was little communication between us and the relationship we did have was taken for granted. Within 6 months of therapy with Brent, my problem with them was solved. First, Brent had me enumerate the stresses associated with the roles I had with these people. Then we developed a plan of action to reduce these stressors. One assignment was to list pros & cons of asserting myself. An example was the erosion of my relationship with my spouse caused by my rumination on the problem. I was also worried about the pressure getting to me and having an outburst of emotion with these relatives which would greatly damage our relationship. The pros, which I learned from listing my values and how I demonstrated them, helped to justify my faith in myself, and reduced the tension I felt when I talked to them to set boundaries. All in all, my relationship became a win-win between my family and myself with Brent giving me guidance and support to achieve my goal.
