Dr. Liang explained the processes so well, I felt confident he'd do what I needed to improve my teeth.

I brought my third child, and she recommended a treatment plan - which it turns out he did not need at all. I took him for consultation with 2 other orthodontists who said he did not need any orthodontia. I'm really disheartened that I put my older kids through treatment with her. Dr. Bruno was able to help my sister and so I decided to do a consultation with Dr. Bruno -- this would have been my 3rd consultant with an orthodontist for my teeth. Dr. Bruno was the only one to suggested that I could get a healthier smile and straighten my teeth without teeth removal, pushing back my teeth or oral surgery (I had a very noticeable underbite). I am almost done with my treatment and it is the best money I have ever spent. My teeth and actual bite are 100% better than before and my underbite is barely noticeable now. I can't be happier with the results even though I am not to my final results yet. I actually live out of state and make the 1000+ mile trip to Dr. Bruno's office a few times a year to see her in office. Her treatment for me is worth every penny and all the miles. Thank you, Dr. Bruno!

I am so disappointed in this practice! I really loved coming here when I first started doing so. In…read moreretrospect, I think I really loved my hygienist, and not Dr. Nichols or the office itself. When my hygienist left, everything went downhill. It's next to impossible to get an appointment here, so you have to book at least 4-5 months in advance (which is great if you can do it, but when things come up and you have to reschedule, it's a real bear). Friendship Heights also used to be close to where I worked, but now that I'm downtown it's just such a booger to get out there for a daytime appointment. I got my first cavity and had to point it out to them (just something off, no pain or anything) they didn't notice it in the cleaning or x-ray review. Once they got in there to fix it, however, Dr. Nichols noted that it was actually quite large and that we were lucky we caught it so soon. Scheduling that follow-on appointment to fix the cavity was also a real pain in the tuchus, although it did not take 4 months. I finally decided to make the switch and they don't do digital x-rays, so they can't send the x-rays I recently had taken to my new dentist and weren't helpful in any way on the phone, which is par for the course with the front desk person. He always seems annoyed that you're there and wasn't helpful in saying something like "we don't do digital x-rays, SORRY, but we can mail them." He just said "We don't do that" and that was that. Like, his whole job is customer service and trust me I know how much that can suck but like don't make it so that people have to force basic information out of you? Tell me what I need to know and we can both end this interaction more quickly, bro. I won't be going back, I don't recommend them, and I am sorry to everyone to whom I previously raved about this place and who went to Dr. Nichols at my urging and now can't get quality care OR their x-rays transferred.

I highly recommend Dr. Nichols. I've been going here for over a decade. When I moved further away,…read moreI tried two other dentists, but both recommended different extreme treatment plans that motivated me to get second opinions. Dr. Nichols takes a conservative approach and is trustworthy in a field where many dentists seem driven by profit.

After then, the practice became an unfriendly place that unrealistically promoted Invisalign for pre-teens, which requires them to wear them 23 hours a day. They are uncomfortable and nearly impossible for kids who go to school, eat lunch with friends, play sports with mouthguards, etc. they can also be painful. And ridiculously easy to lose. My children found the experience nearly impossible, and the new orthodontist spoke to my children unkindly - and always in an awful condescending tone. The practice also once "lost" a set of my daughter's Invisalign and blamed her. I'm still upset about this a few years later. We were just talking about this in my house, and I wanted to let others know. Two years of wearing Invisalign 23 hours a day is nearly impossible for kids. Children should be treated kindly. And we learned that the cost of everything at Bird is nearly double than those at other practices. We moved on to another lovely orthodontist who got the job done with humor, decades of experience, and kindness. And even though it meant we had to pay all over again, it was worth it.

My experience with Dr. Puterman began a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away--before Covid…read morewas a word, let alone a plague. After consulting with a number of specialists, the consensus was clear. Dr. Puterman is the best at what he does in the DMV--and my particular case (don't ask) required the best. I confess, I was skeptical. But a little more than half a decade (and several surgeries later (don't ask), I have a functional mouth again. Not only teeth that work but teeth that look great. Best of all, the pain that tormented me for decades is gone. GONE. Obliterated. Throughout this ordeal, Dr. Puterman stuck by me. And I by him and his extraordinary staff and colleagues. Dr. Puterman was always honest. Always fair. Always honorable. Always kind. And always decent. This is not what I would have expected given the intrinsic challenges of my case and the fickle nature of human biology that doesn't always cooperate with titanium and bone grafts. And yet--here I am--finally some five plus years later. Grateful beyond words for my experience with Dr. Puterman. Don't get me wrong. I won't miss being in his chair for scores of additional hours. I'm a grateful patient. And what makes me especially grateful is that we made it--together. If you desire the best that modern dentistry has to offer, there is no one better--more capable, skillful, and honorable. I could not recommend anyone more highly. Puterman is the best.

He continued to work on me through my panic attack, and never even reached out to my husband who was in the waiting room. I couldn't speak due to the dental dam, bite block and all the instruments in my mouth, so I just lay there, hyperventilating with tears streaming down my face. I was severely traumatized. Weeks later, when I approached Dr. Puterman about the trauma, he dismissed my concerns, gaslighting me by questioning the validity of my experience. He even went on to tell me that his family member's panic attacks did not present in that fashion so I must not have been having one. He called me by the wrong name, patronized me, and completely disregarded my concerns about my very disturbing experience. To make matters worse, he went as far as involving my father (a retired sedation dentist who administered the exam to Dr. Puterman for his IV sedation license) to dispute my account. He tried to get my father to agree that I wasn't having a panic attack and that he didn't do anything wrong (News flash - My dad is well aware of my history and conducted all my dental treatment up until his retirement. He didn't agree). If you seek compassionate care, and especially if you are tough to sedate or have anxiety, I would advise considering alternative dentists who prioritize patient well-being over financial interests. There are many other very accomplished dentists out there who treat the whole person and don't just see dollar signs.
