I stumbled across this organization via an open call job interest for Chiquita. They're located in the old Coca-Cola bottling plant on Morehead. They've done a fantastic job updating the space. When you walk in, you're greeted by a receptionist. The rest of the office is filled with "cubicle" like space & meeting rooms. Keep heading down a hallway & you wind around to a kitchen area, then a workshop room. They're new to this building, so it will be interesting to see what it will look like when completed. They have workshops on resume/cover letters, interview techniques, LinkedIn, & career coaching. This is more "upscale" than you would see at your local unemployment office. Volunteers teach these free courses, so if there's open spots on their website, you better not hesitate to sign up. It took me about a month to secure the resume/cover letter class. Gwen Ferguson taught this class yesterday & was very knowledgeable and friendly. I left the 4 hour session empowered with a new approach to my resume & cover letter. Another plus - free parking!

They met everyone they were trying to both place and any company they were trying to fill a position for before they even decided to work with anyone. They reviewed your resume and portfolio giving solid advice on how to improve your overall presentation so that you would be able to connect with the right position. So in 2021 when I was back in the market for a job they were the first staffing firm I reached out to help me connect with the right opportunity. On the many times, I have tried to connect with someone I have basically ended up on a mailing list that sends me possible jobs that may or may not be the right fit for me. If I think I am a good candidate I am to email back with my current resume and a link to my portfolio and hope that someone sees it and gets back to me. I have been working with a number of recruiters and staffing firms and I do understand that the creative fields are highly oversaturated. Which makes staffing those positions even more difficult, especially with the level of remote work out there. It's been almost a year since I started trying to work with any recruiter at the firm and have talked on the phone with someone at this office once after quite a few emails trying to get a local human being that could help me. The phone call was cordial but the person I spoke with had to go after only speaking with me for a few minutes and promised a follow-up I never received. I have responded to many of the positions I was very much qualified for but never heard back. I found myself calling them the Cyborg Staffing firm to my husband because it feels like they forgot that the H in HR stands for human. Because it has been so challenging to get in touch with a human there. I don't know what else to do other than share my experience so others won't feel like they are also wasting so much precious time.

What does a stay at home mom need a life coach for you ask? Well, for the same reasons that a…read morecorporate executive does! To pinpoint my personal goals and aspirations, and find the solutions to manifest that goal in my life. Usually, we have the answers ourselves, we just need to get out of our own way to see them. That is exactly what Jeff helped me to do! My coaching experience with Jeff began with his assistant sending me a questionnaire to fill out about myself. It covered professional, personal, home life, spiritual life, and physical health among other areas. Although the questionnaire is straightforward, it is sometimes hard it rate areas of your life when you are so used to going through the daily motions of accomplishing things without much reflection. Once we had set our date and time for the coaching session, I anxiously awaited our call. Side note- you can have your sessions in person or over the phone/Skype. The flexibility was key for me as I have little ones at home with me and needed to have my call during naptime. Once the hour long session got under way, Jeff explained the differences between a life coach and licensed therapist, confidentiality agreements, and also the framework of the initial session. I greatly appreciated this being that I admittedly did not have any clue what to expect. Haha Newbie here! While I won't get into specifics about my goals, I will speak on my experience and Jeff's coaching approach. I REALLY loved that the session and all goal setting was completely lead by me and my interests, while also getting observational feedback from Jeff throughout. He confidently stated that his job was to essentially help me to come to my own conclusions. It was very empowering!!!! To hear that we each know in our core what we need to focus on and how to solve our own problems or reach our own goals, we just need guidance in getting there was such an "aha" moment for me. Although I can say if you are not that reflective, I can see how getting coaching from Jeff would be essential!! Jeff also gently pointed out evident personal characteristics that could be contributing to my success (or not!) at accomplishing my goals. And as you know, it can be difficult to face how you contribute to your own failures and successes. Who REALLY wants to look in the mirror? Lol But thankfully, Jeff knew when and when not to push his observations. It was a great balance in my opinion. The season ended with measurable actions I had to proclaim I would do towards achieving the particular goals I'd set. Proclaiming actions that I would take made it easy for me to know exactly what I was going to do in the time between sessions to get closer to achieving my goals. Lastly, Jeff asked me some reflective questions that helped me to mentally recall and summarize the outline of the season. The very last thing was a very simple task of putting 5 things in order of how we prioritize them in our life (self, spouse, family, work, ). I rated them according to my life, and then Jeff reminded me that healthy priorities (in order) are self, spouse, work, family and friends. Such a great reminder that self MUST come first in order to care for the other areas of your life. How do you rate your life's priorities?
