Does anyone remember that episode of the Simpsons where two Germans buy the power plant, Homer meets them and they tell him they're from the "land of chocolate" and he starts having a daydream about being in a chocolate fairyland? If not, you can go ahead and think I'm crazy, but if you do, THAT'S how I felt when I walked into this lovely chocolate shop.
Being the chocoholic that I am, I was determined to buy lots of chocolate during my visit to Berlin so that I could hoard it and bring it back to Vancouver. The Confiserie Leysieffer enabled me to do just that. With about a zillion types of chocolate to choose from, this store is a feast for the senses. I ended up buying a number of chocolate bars (because you can cram more of them into a suitcase) and I gave one to most of my friends and family when I returned. Everyone fell in love with it, and we're all fiending for more.
Since I bought so much, I tried several varieties, but the ones that stick out are the lavender, chai, and hazelnut bars. Sure, they're pricier than the chocolate bars you'll find in the convenience stores (although cheap German chocolate kicks cheap Canadian chocolate's ass any day), it's worth the price to have true artisan craftsmanship.
I can't believe I've written so much about this business, but such is my love for all things chocolate. I highly recommend any other chocolate enthusiasts to give this place a try. read more
