When I hear the words "gelato" or "gelateria," normally I don't think twice about them. As most…read morepeople know, gelato tends to be made with milk, and as a result, I avoid that. But I came to Gelateria Mos Eisley because Anne S. had received an invitation from them which also specified that they had vegan flavors. Naturally I assumed that meant one or two, like my favorite ice cream standby, Tanne B. But no. It's fair to say that a good 1/3 to 1/2 of the gelato/eis available was vegan. And the flavors weren't all boring. Grapefruit & Estragon? Schoko-Minze? Yes please. The ice cream was also super rich and flavorful, and I thoroughly enjoyed my scoops. So much so, that even though I live in Kreuzberg, I plan to go out of my way every so often to check this place out. It's a perfect stop on your way to Tempelhofer Park, for example. Also, although the meaning of the name had to be explained to us, if any of you are bonafide nerds and/or Star Wars fans, you will love the word play.

I tried the chocolate-cherry sorbetto and cheesecake gelato. The flavours in both were very strong, the chocolate was dark and bitter enough and the cherry nice and tart, it wasn't too sweet either. The cheesecake was excellent. It tasted exactly like eating frozen cheesecake :)

This shop does not make its own chocolate. Rather, this shop gathers together all the different types of chocolate from all over the world. With everything from Anedei to Domori to other exotic chocolates, this is the place to go if you want to find quality chocolate. They have everything from inexpensive to very expensive but it is all top quality. This shop is quite a walk from the nearest underground subway stop of Oranienburger Str. but by quite a walk I mean 5 minutes past some of the best looking shops. There was even a kosher bakery on my journey. Upon arriving there were already two women who I had seen wander in to the shop ahead of me. I soaked up the chocolate heaven while they were served and the brilliant women running the shop that day helped me by bean, acidity and region, finding me the perfect bars of chocolate. For someone like me who is passionate about chocolate to say you MUST go here, you know that this, above all else, is a shop you must go to for chocolate in Berlin.
