I gave this shop a chance because I prefer supporting small businesses over big dealerships, but unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. About a year ago, I went to him for a headlight bulb replacement on my Lexus. I paid almost $400 for the job. Immediately after he replaced the bulb, the headlights started flickering. When I brought it back to his attention, he told me it was likely a bad ballast. I returned so he could look at it, and he replaced it again. Fast forward a few months later, the headlight started flickering again. At that point, I decided to take my car to a Toyota dealership to get a second opinion. The technician there told me the bulbs installed were aftermarket and defective. Not only were they bad, but they had started smoking and were damaging the inner headlight lens. That was extremely concerning, especially considering what I paid for the original repair. What's even more frustrating is that his pricing is comparable to, or higher than, dealership pricing, yet he's using aftermarket parts. For example, he quoted me $800 for front brakes on a Lexus IS 200t. I checked with a Toyota dealership and was quoted under $500 for the same job. If I'm going to pay dealership-level pricing, I expect dealership-quality parts and service. Between the repeated headlight issues, the use of inferior aftermarket parts, and pricing that exceeds dealership rates, I can't recommend this dealer based on my experience. read more

Had a few issues with my 2007 LS 460. One of them being an electrical issue with the power steering, which like most electrical issue are not simple to diagnose. It took a bit of a time, but Monty was able to figure it out through a process of elimination of different components. He never gave up.The dealership would've never done that. I'm sure whatever I ended up paying would've been much more at the dealership. The beauty of having to go to visit LexTek is Monty not only fixes the issue you bring it in for, but he gives your car an overall Health check. He found a few issues that needed immediate attention and we were able to get those corrected as well and a couple of items for us to keep an eye on. It is nice to be able to speak to the person that is actually working on your car versus a dealership where you're talking to a service writer that is taking care of a number of different customers and not even ever looking at your vehicle. I can't say enough good things about Monty! He is thorough, honest, kind, professional, and explains the situation without being condescending. He also rotated my tires and check my brakes just on general principle and informed me, that my brakes were down to 20%. I just bought a used 2006 Lexus IS350 (3 months ago) with 100k miles on it. I absolutely LOVE the car so you can imagine how difficult it was when one day the car wouldn't start. It was late in the afternoon and I started Yelping for possible repair shops. I came across Lextek and I'm sure glad I did! When I called I actually got a voicemail so I left a message and the owner (Monty) called me right back. I told him what happened with the car and he said to go ahead and have it towed over. It was about 4:45 pm and I asked if I could just have the car towed and left at the business. Monty agreed, but generously offered to wait for the car to arrive so he can lock it up inside to avoid possible headaches. The next day Monty called me at about 9:30 am to let me know that the starter needed to be fixed. He explained that he would get the car started, then check for additional known issues for IS350's. I agreed. He then called me at 3 pm to let me know my car was done and had a relatively clean bill of health. Buying a used car makes me very anxious because you never quite know what you're getting in to, but Monty made me feel very comfortable with my purchase. When I arrived, Monty educated me on some of the other maintenance things I can do to the car to increase reliability and performance. There was no sales pressure or feeling like I was getting "sold" on something I didn't want or need. It was more like having a friend who knows LOTS about my car and just wanted to help me along the way. My mom has a 2018 ES350 and needless to say, both of us are going to bring our cars to Monty (Lextek) rather than the "stealership". Came here on recommendation from a co-worker. I'd been going to the dealership and another workshop that does a lot of work for the dealership. They "followed the manufacturers suggested maintenance schedule" to the letter...however, they didn't really "care" for my vehicle. Monty however did a full inspection of my vehicle, asked me questions about the maintenance I'd previously had and my driving habits, and made recommendations on what was absolutely necessary to get done now, what could wait until later, and what I needed to do to get my vehicle back up to its original performance and keep it going for miles, especially since I plan to keep this one. I was surprised to find out that the other places I had taken my vehicle to did the bare minimum maintenance, but no real care. I live in Murrieta and work in San Diego. I have over 96,000 miles on my 2013 Lexus, but the previous mechanics never bothered to flush the transmission system or brake system. Monty not only suggested it, he allowed me to see the condition of my transmission fluid during the flushing...and it was black. His experience and obvious care in maintaining vehicles is what I would rather have over a "textbook" mechanic that simply follows the manufacturers suggested maintenance schedule with no regard to how the vehicle is actually being driven and how that may affect that schedule. It's a Lexus and Monty uses genuine Lexus parts, so maintenance and parts aren't cheap. But his prices are significantly lower than the other two places I've been, one of which used cheaper products when doing my maintenance. So glad I came to Lextek and it has been a great sense of relief finding an honest mechanic who knows what he's doing. read more

Monty is a nice enough guy and he knows Lexus cars. This is a solid place to take your car if you have a Lexus, but his prices are not much lower than the dealership, which will give you a loaner car. The loaner car is a big deal. I've taken my car to Lex tek on several service calls, but when I needed a new transmission, he was way too expensive. Had to find another shop that specializes in transmissions. To Monty's credit, he only uses brand new parts and that is why his prices are not as cheap as you'd think. Overall, I would recommend using Lex Tek. read more

Told us the fuel pump needed to be replaced along with a huge list of other crap. Talks a lot and does not listen to the customer! After trusting him and getting the fuel pump replaced and $1100 later my daughter finally got her car back. We wanted to see if this well kept lexus by the lexus dealership was as bad as this guy said that her car was. She took it to the lexus dealership and the car is perfect!! What a scam artist!! She purchased a car from him and was very satisfied. I took my Lexus 330 2006 in for service about 2 years ago and have been a customer since. My dad was meticulous with cars, quite a craftsman, excellent worker, had a very nice organized garage, knowledgeable, dedicated, friendly, helpful, and humble. My dad would have been impressed with Monty! I saw a lot of my dad's fine qualities in Monty! I was in awe at how Monty knows Lexus engines/cars. (found out he had 24-25 years experience) He gives explanations of why a part is needed, shows demonstration of the area/part, even pictures. My car is in for service at this time. I told Monty the Lexus had a surge feel at times and right away, he thought it might be the engine mounts. He took me to see the mounts, how the engine moved, how it was felt in the steering wheel, and the damage that could be done to multiple expensive hoses if left. It's a 2006 with 85,000 miles with the original mounts. It was time for 85,000 mile oil change. Monty showed me where they oil was leaking. Monty's suggested repairs are done in a very timely manner with attention to detail and care. Like my dad, I take excellent care of my car. I learned this needs to be done by someone who does it right and knows what they are doing. Monty had a helper there who was very knowledgable and helpful. I was offered a loaner Toyota Camry which he had available. I also was able to schedule my car for 85,000 mile service promptly too! (Good thing it turns out!) read more

Monty recommended that my daughter get a water pump, engine mounts, struts, and a tune up. We had him replace the water pump since I had heard noise coming from the engine near the water pump a couple of weeks earlier. As for the struts he gave me a long song and dance about how they were bad and needed to be done for my daughters safety. I had driven her SUV 2 weeks before and I was thinking at the time how great her SUV drove and I was pushing it hard. As an owner of a Porsche Boxster and an RX300 with 230,000 miles and helping my daughter buy a used Rx350, I know how the RX350 should drive. After talking to Monty, bells went off and I sent my daughter to Kearny Mesa Lexus. Kearney Mesa Lexus told here that her car was perfect, even after she asked about the engine mounts and struts. KM Lexus was a class act and gave 1st rate service. As for talking to Monty, I walk away from scam artists and then inform the world about them. Monty how do you fix lying???? Monty has been in the business for 15 years and has 8. As for the oil I was not there to check it and it may have had some extra oil. Although I highly doubt that an oil change place rated at 4.5 stars on Yelp by 61 people is that bad. And I definitely know they did not or could not put 12 quarts of oil in her engine so I am not sure what Amer H is talking about. I decided to take my car to Lextek for my oil change. It was a pleasant surprise. Service was excellent and they got my car ready in less than 30 minutes. This was a great since it gave me extra time to enjoy my lunch break. Honestly I don't leave many reviews unless the service is really excellent, but this time I specifically wanted to leave this review because I saw the 1 star that Mercedes S. left. One big reason is that I was there when Mrs. Mercedes S. daughter brought the car over to Lextek. I remember this since the story was a bit funny. She just brought a car from Chain Oil Change place where they pumped 12 quarts of oil in her engine which basically would destroy her engine. Luckily a nice gentlemen in Lextek was kind enough to catch that and drain the oil so the engine would not get destroyed. Daughter was on the phone with mommy the whole time when they clearly explained to her what needed to be done to the car. This was moms request to let her know what needs to be done. They agreed on the repairs. So please stop blaming small business owners for something big chain business does to your car!!! You get what you pay (oil change for $19.95).
