This company represents everything people dislike about towing operations. The tow itself was valid. I made a parking mistake and I am not disputing that. The problem was everything that happened afterward. After my car was towed, the company was nearly impossible to reach. I placed over 20 calls before anyone answered, and even then it took significant effort just to get the address of where my vehicle had been taken. I was instructed to retrieve my vehicle the following day. When I attempted to do so, the yard was closed with no staff on-site, citing snow, despite only minimal snowfall and no apparent safety issue. There was no way to retrieve my vehicle or even access personal belongings inside it. This left me without access to my own car due solely to the company's lack of communication and arbitrary closure. Throughout the process, the behavior was dismissive and unprofessional. Calls were cut short, information was withheld, and basic courtesy was nonexistent. Based on other reviews, this does not appear to be an isolated incident. Property owners and municipalities should think carefully before contracting with a company that operates this way. read more

I called the towing company because a vehicle without a parking tag was in my building's parking lot for over an hour with their 4-ways flashing. 3 people tried to use the occupied spot before I called, including a resident with a handicap placard. The spot is still occupied by the car as I type this. The guy I called refused service and hung up before I could explain the situation because 4-ways were flashing on the offending car. They claim to be 24 hours but they're not. I called very early in morning to retrieve my vehicle, but no one answered until after 9:00 a.m. I told him I'd be in the same day to pick it up. When I arrived, there was no one in sight. They give t ou tye Phield House address and I had no idea where to go, I was instructed by a phield house security guard in the parking lot, who also told me to call nd let them know i was there. I was told that they had just left to do a tow and it'd be about 20 minutes. I waited half an hour before calling them back and they told me that I wasn't paying attention and I missed the tow truck when it came back. this is NOT what happened as I stood outside in the cold the entire time. No tow truck ever came. I was told another 20 mins. Eventually they called back and told me that the tow truck was there and I had missed it again I said that is impossible as I'm still standing outside I now realize the tow trucks come around back and if they advise you to stay in the phield house there's no way for you to know that they've arrived. I highly suggest they confirm a pickup time so that somebody's on property I waited over an hour and a half to retrieve my vehicle. read more

IF YOU ARE TOWED GET YOUR VEHICLE CHECKED! We were recently towed. It was our error and I do not dispute the action that was taken. Once we were able to get our vehicle back, it was immediately apparent that there was something wrong with the steering. I drove home very slowly and took my SUV to our local trusted mechanic first thing. He confirmed that the tow truck driver had hooked to an inappropriate part of my vehicle (the tie rods) causing them to twist out of aligment. Luckily the problem was fixable and caused no long term problems as we had identified it quickly. Other than this aspect, the poor communication, long wait time in the cold and dark in a very questionable lot, being yelled at over the phone for having additional questions, muttered swears that were audible as the agent was hanging up the phone, and very unclear instructions were all about as you would expect reading the other reviews. read more

The man who picked up the phone was immediately rude and condescending, as if I was inconvenience him by calling. I was also berated for the time I was calling this in, told I should have called hours earlier when I had only just confirmed that the car wasn't meant to be there as I was trying to leave for the day. Listen I understand this is a towing company, and that customer service is not their first priority, but my experience was beyond horrific. My car was towed a couple days ago and I called up their number to get it back. I politely left my name and number on the voicemail and after two hours I decided to call a couple more times--they answered: "STOP CALLING THIS NUMBER, YOU LEAVE ANOTHER VOICEMAIL LIKE THAT AGAIN I'M BLOCKING THIS NUMBER". BACK AWAY AND DON'T GET NOWHERE NEAR ME." You can't make crap like this up, the worst service experience I have ever had. Also, this towing company charges $175 plus a $25 a day fee which if fine, fair enough. I picked up my car the night it was towed, and was told on the phone that it would be $200 dollars. When I was finally given my receipt, they charged me $250. Honestly unbelievable, but hey, lesson learned. Be warned. I'm new to Philadelphia compared to some people and I always threw caution to the wind parking wherever and whenever. Im from Detroit where laws truly don't exist. I woke up to my wife asking if I ended up moving the car from the bank lot last night, to which I responded "nope! I bet we got towed!" Sure as shit. I called the listed number for Senior Blum and was answered to a pleasant burly sounding man daunting a philly accent. This guy was curt, to the point, honest, and heartwarming. I loved it. He told me how much, where to go, what to do, where not to walk (if I'm not ubering to west ass philly) and also where to walk to enjoy a stroll through the park before ending up at the post apocalyptic building to receive my confiscated vehicle! This company is absolutely everything you can ever want from a towing company : no mercy. You parked there. You messed up. The city doesn't owe you anything. Lew Blum doesn't owe you anything. When you enter the office of Lew Blum Towing, you are not just walking into a dark cramped dead-end hallway, you are getting a total immersion into the world of towing and vehicle storage. If you've ever seen Sartre's "No Exit," you know what I mean. Communication is the key to any good business, and the gentleman who works behind the bulletproof glass knows how to communicate. With a few simple mumbles he made it clear that he needed my license and money, and with a simple grunt he conveyed his displeasure at having to take my $205. I apologized for the inconvenience but he nicely shrugged it off as he wordlessly wandered off. His inability to make change is a little perplexing as it is a cash business, but obviously I don't know how these things work. I can only assume that Lew doesn't get much business, hence the lack of change. He will take more, though, and I count that as a gratuity. Eventually, my car was ready to be returned. I was harshly rebuked by the employee for wandering outside before getting my keys. This was my fault as I became despondent staring at the blank window wondering what had become of my life. My desire to breathe fresh air overcame my common sense when I knew deep down that I should just stand there and wait for an unspecified amount of time contemplating my existence. He came to life while scolding me, and it was a delight as I thought he suffered from a sever form of Asperger's. He does not. Kudos, sir! Would I go back again? This place is where your car goes if a private establishment has it towed (ie. parked in front of a private driveway). It is in the worst neighborhood and is cash only. The people aren't particularly nice but not rude. It's $205 (exact change only) to get your car out on the first day, and $25 a day extra for a holding fee. If you end up here, I'm sorry. It's not a great start to your day. But at least your car isn't stolen- you'll just feel like you got robbed to get it back. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. I parked where I thought was unrestricted but was actually still part of private property. This is a street near my house that I frequently park on, and i don't use my car everyday, so I didn't realize my car had been towed for four days. Now I take responsibility for that but also don't treat me like I'm an idiot. Living in a city it's not unreasonable to not drive or see your car everyday when you have to navigate strict parking that gets you 1.5 blocks from your house. I see their sign and call them and when they asked when my car had been towed, I told them it was probably four days ago and they laughed at me. They said they didn't have any Towings of my make and model on that block last week but one a few blocks away. They insisted it wasn't my car, I insisted that they find out the license plate. They told me they couldn't tell me for a half hour. They call back to tell me they had the location wrong and it was my car. Finally, I uber there and notice the door to their business is locked. After knocking and waiting, I call them and the guy yells at me saying he can't believe I didn't call because they can't hear the door. Like ok, that makes no sense to not even have a bell. He tells me they are coming down. 5 minutes later a tow truck shows up and says he can let me in in a few minutes. I don't see him again. Luckily another driver shows up and actually lets me in. I was so skeeved out by the whole experience. Waiting outside at nighttime alone as a woman for 15 minutes without reassurance anyone is going to help you out is so uncomfortable. You guys are a miserable company and I hope you close down. read more
