I paid in full and on time for the root canal. Today I had an issue with that same tooth and I recalled Dr. Yasir Siddique (who performed my root canal) telling me "If you have any issues with that tooth, please call US back so we can help you out." I took this as kind and genuine customer service, but it was a total ploy. I went in today with pain to that tooth, got an appointment scheduled, sat in the chair, had a tech come over and eliminate the issue, all within a span of 2 minutes. Sounds good, right? Nope. This office is in the business of price gouging you for services at every turn. I was told multiple times to get an X-ray of the tooth that I had an issue with "to make sure it was not part of the problem". I declined the X-ray, thankfully. I then went to the front of the office where they told me I would be charged for the service today. After pleading with the people at the front of the office, they asked Dr. Siddique if they could waive the fee from today's visit. He told them no, because the appointment today had nothing to do with the tooth... but I thought he wanted me to get an X-ray to make sure it was not the tooth... Which one is it? Save your time and money and go somewhere that cares about you and your health, not just what is in your wallet.

Called Joy Dental and they said they could see me in 2 days. Perfect. I showed up, and X-Rays were taken. The dental hygienist struggled to get the machine to save the photos and once it was done the dentist came in, confirmed that I indeed had 2 issues with my teeth and told me SHE COULDN'T HELP ME. She then told me two dental schools in the city to go to. WTF. I came here with two teeth that needed work done as soon as possible. Unbearable pain. After the dentist told me to go somewhere else, she put a bib and glasses on me. I asked what she was doing and she said OH WERE GIVING YOU A CLEANING. I did NOT come here for a cleaning. I came here for issues with two of my teeth and was willing to pay to get them taken care of. Instead I was passed on to another dentist in the city. What a joke. This dentist, after going here once, gives me this impression: Joy Dental only caters to those with Medicaid and does the absolute bare minimum. If you need anything done besides an X-Ray, you will be sent somewhere else. I left here after scheduling an emergency appointment, with my teeth cleaned, a new tooth brush, and a recommendation to go to Temple Dental school to get what I needed done. I couldn't believe they'd charge me again to look at something he missed. I thought it fair to tell them that the charge wouldn't be paid and that they could cancel my next appointment. They said they no longer wanted my business and they were sending me to collectors. Fine with me. This place will rob you blind. FYI their parking lot cluncks the bottom of your car. Watch out!

Some of them also try to aggressively push for services / procedures you don't need - seek a second opinion when in doubt. Negatives: their billing department runs an absolute racket with shady practices. They try to charge you upfront prior to submitting to your insurance, lie to your face that insurance denied the claim (it was denied because the "claim" was integral to the procedure and no separate payment was applicable), and try to charge you beyond insurance negotiated rates by calling it an "upgrade". Take a printout of your insurance EOB and compare with their itemized invoice prior to paying anything!

Despite that, I was later billed for charges I never knowingly approved and never agreed to pay out of pocket. What made this worse was the lack of transparency. I repeatedly asked for clear documentation, itemized charges, and proof that I signed for certain services they later claimed I owed. Instead of properly resolving the dispute, the account was sent to collections and reported to the credit bureaus. I already paid significant amounts directly to the office, including payment for Invisalign by credit card, yet they still pursued additional disputed charges without properly explaining them. Patients should be very careful here and request everything in writing before agreeing to treatment. Make sure you fully understand what insurance covers and what they may later try to bill you for. Very stressful experience overall, especially the handling of billing and collections.

A great sign that they are busy, but I explained I had an issue. They told me they could see me sooner for that, so we set an appointment for Monday. The staff were friendly, but after meeting Dr. Fournier, I knew I had my next dentist. Her personality was amazing, bedside manner was perfect. They had to drill and fill my tooth today, no lie, I think I was out of there in fifteen minutes... She kind of joked about how I am with Dentists, am I nervous, am I okay with needles, all sorts of questions, because we don't know each other. When I was injected, she told me to breathe out and breathe in. Did that work? When I had that tooth drilled before, I teared up. Not from pain, but because that spot was connected somehow to my left eye's tear duct... Did the breathing work? Maybe? After my appointment, they told me there were some cancellations the week of the Fourth of July, so no more November check. I'll be back this month. The only two things that make me nervous are having to make a left out of that parking lot. I could make a right and find my way home, but I feel it could not be good at rush hour. No issues today. The second thing is that I have an internal dread that Dr. Fournier is going to retire someday while I still need dental work... I don't want to find someone new.
