When I discovered I had deep periodontal pockets, I went into full research mode. Most…read moreperiodontists I found had either horror stories in their reviews or a mixed bag I wasn't willing to gamble on. Not with what I now know is at stake. Here's why this mattered so much to me: I recently learned I have elevated Lp(a), a genetic marker for cardiovascular risk. One in 5 people have it and most don't know because doctors don't routinely test for it. And the bacteria that thrive in deep periodontal pockets, Porphyromonas gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum, are directly linked to the same things that could kill me. Research has found P. gingivalis in the brains of Alzheimer's patients and in arterial plaque in 100% of cardiovascular disease patients studied. F. nucleatum has been identified in colorectal cancer tumors. These bacteria cause systemic inflammation, which is the last thing someone with genetic cardiovascular risk needs circulating through their body. And research shows that traditional scaling and root planing alone can leave 15% or more of bacteria behind in deep pockets and dentinal tubules. For someone like me, that wasn't acceptable. A note to anyone reading this: Lp(a) significantly increases your lifetime risk of heart attack, stroke, and aortic valve disease. You can't lower it with diet or exercise. It's not included in a standard lipid panel. If you don't know your number, ask for the test. It could save your life and change how you approach your entire health, including your dental care. Because if you have this marker, bacteria hiding deep in periodontal pockets aren't just a dental problem. They're actively increasing your already elevated cardiovascular risk. So I did what I do: I researched. Extensively. I wasn't just looking at reviews. I dug into Dr. Hatam's entire background. Where she studied, where she trained, her credentials, her approach to periodontal care. I was willing to drive far outside my area if I had to. But Dr. Hatam checked every box. And then she exceeded my expectations before I even walked through the door. I left an after hours message expressing urgency, and she personally called me back while the office was closed. That one gesture told me everything about her ethics and her genuine concern for patients. Most doctors wouldn't bother. She did. I explained my concerns, and Dr. Hatam didn't dismiss me or rush me. She listened, truly heard me, and agreed to perform a laser assisted deep cleaning to maximize bacterial elimination. The day of my procedure, I was filled with anxiety. Dr. Hatam dismantled that anxiety with a combination of professionalism, genuine care, and (I have to mention this) a sense of humor. She read me perfectly, knowing I was the type of patient she could joke around with, even poke a little fun at, to put me at ease. And it worked. She has this warmth that she just exudes. One of those rare people you meet in life and intuitively know is good to the core. Her bedside manner is matched only by her expertise. You feel genuinely cared for, not processed. She naturally puts you at ease in a way that can't be taught. Here's the thing: Dr. Hatam doesn't need my review. Her portfolio of five star reviews (she has a couple hundred on Google) speaks for itself. But I'm writing this anyway because when you find a doctor like this in life, you hold onto them forever. And you tell other people. As for insurance? Most plans cover at least a portion if not all of periodontal treatment, and Dr. Hatam's office will submit the bill to your insurance. But honestly, even if mine covered nothing, I wouldn't care. Getting rid of cancer linked, dementia linked, inflammation causing bacteria is priceless. If I could go back in time and tell my non flossing self (yes, I'm embarrassed to admit I was never a flosser) what we now know about the oral microbiome, that it's just as important as your gut microbiome for overall health and cancer prevention, I would. But I can't turn back time. What I can do is take action now, and Dr. Hatam made that possible. Find her. Keep her. You won't regret it.

I'm not sure there could be a more perfect and professional dental organization out there. After a…read morelifetime of various dentists, periodontists and surgeons having found this wonderful place has been a godsend. Dr Hatam is beyond the best. I hesitate to write this in fear of letting the secret out.... But it's so well deserved. But on top of just the exceptional care; every single person that works in this office is an A player. From the front desk to the dentists and hygienists they are all the best. Ask for Nicole as well, she rocks!

They never informed me that my insurance would not cover these tests, nor did they inform me of the exorbitant costs each procedure had. Overall, I had an extremely unprofessional experience and I hope future customers do not allow themselves to fall for this fraud.

Second, in my experience, they will lure you in with a $99 teeth cleaning special, then TAKE X-RAYS and say "That's it." Then they upsell for a $600 treatment plan and act confused as to why you want your money back. From their own website: "Any teeth cleaning at Carp Dental in Norristown, PA will include the following: Removal of calculus (tartar): Calculus is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time and is now attached to the surface of your teeth. Calculus forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental cleaning instruments. Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on your teeth. It is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins that inflame the gums. This inflammation is the start of periodontal disease. Teeth polishing: removes staining and plaque from your teeth that is not removed during routine tooth brushing." This is a lie. Third, Monica should be nowhere NEAR customers of any kind. This argumentative personality who literally can't spell HIPAA is as unprofessional as you will find. (She really did mis-spell "hippa" in communications to the Better Business Bureau and myself. Yea, real pros working over there) Avoid. Pathetic amateurs who will steal your money and not provide service. Lastly, a quote from monica herself "Unfortunately at this time i am not able to release any information without the Patient signing a HIPPA form for me to do so. I would be more than happy to give you any Information on this case as everything that was sent to you is the PT not understanding his treatment and understand how our $99 Patient Special works. Please feel free to call me at my office with anymore questions. 610-275-1565. Monica" Do you really want to trust your health to someone who will steal your money AND can't spell HIPAA ?

I was already petrified of going to the dentist, and to have someone chopping things in my mouth and act as if nothing is going on, it's not cool. A simple "are you ok?" or "is that too much pressure?" goes a long way for me, and he just doesn't seem to have that charisma. That's the reason why I'll give them 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that little problem, everything is fine. The assistants and receptionists are superb! Very sweet and caring. Such a nice place. Unfortunately, I was traumatized from last visit and I don't think I want Dr. Evian's hands on me (my mouth) again. Au revoir.

Previously, when I first made the appointment, I asked for confirmation if they accepted AmeriHealth Caritas; they told me yes; they also asked for the phone number of the insurance company to verify that they accept it. June 22nd, 2022, I called again after they called me telling me they had an opening asking for a second time if they accepted AmeriHealth Cartias, once again; they said yes. I live 2 hours away, so I made the trip out there. Everything was fine, I got my mouth looked at and they told me they would have to do surgery. They wanted to take pictures of my mouth, with an actual handheld camera, weird? The assistant was trying to put the spacers in my mouth to take a picture and couldn't get it. Took about 5 minutes, I actually started crying because it hurt so bad and they didn't know what they were doing. The periodontist was getting frustrated with the assistant and the camera because it was dead. He storms off and grabs his cellphone to take pictures of my mouth. It was a weird situation, but figured whatever. At the end of the appointment, I go up to the front desk and they just tell me they'll email me with a "plan". Never heard of such a thing. I leave to head home and 10 minutes later, I get a phone call from the office telling me that they don't accept my insurance and that I would have to pay for the appointment which would cost $140. What kind of shit is that? I confirmed with them not once, but TWICE that they accepted my insurance and because the receptionists didn't do their job, I have to pay for it. They informed me that they'd be sending a bill in the mail for me to pay. Get out of here. I will be reporting this business to the BBB and also looking into small claim courts for this. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.
