We couldn't keep staying in hotels, so we were forced to move back in and terminate that contract. At the time, our toilette was literally in our living room, only ~30% flooring was laid down, and it turned out to be a mix of extremely cheap wood and (believe it or not) used boards they pulled up from a different project. Alvarado was the company - avoid them! We really did our homework this second time before choosing who to turn to, and we choose Haywood. Not only did they fit us in earlier than expected, and worked extra hours to get it done for us, but they did such an amazing job you couldn't tell the difference between the horrible work the first company had started (that they had to patch up heavily) and the new flooring they brought in. My wife and I were (and remain) completely amazed at what they were able to do, the really hard work the Haywood team put in, and the incredible results - its all seamless and beautiful looking throughout. Definitely recommend them for anyone who is looking for a professional and reliable team to take care of installing hardwood floors at a fantastic price.

Haywood also installed a new floor in a room that previously had nasty carpet in it. The new floor is also heart pine, reclaimed from a barn or warehouse, and they also refinished some floors that were about twenty years old. They did incredibly nice work, but they also are really nice people. They showed respect for my property with such things as making certain the gates were always secured to contain my dogs and letting me know what things were taking place each day, in case I needed to get something from a room that would be out of order for a while for product drying. The team working at my house, Wes, Frank, and Seth, are not technicians, but rather true craftsmen using decades of cumulative skills to deliver a perfect project, on time, and within budget. I will use Haywood again.

His entire crew was amazing, from those who did the demo to the installation crew. They fixed our subfloor which had numerous issues and did the job right. We had hardwood flooring installed in our den and it was a nightmare from the get-go. Measurements were way off. Two extra boxes of flooring and ~40 feet of 1/4 round. When asked about what to do with the 2 boxes of flooring (that we paid for), was told "you can sell it on eBay". Really? Then there was the installation crew. No one spoke English so any questions I had resulted in blank stares. These were not W-2 employees but sub-contractors. This crew stained the 1/4 round us and it wasn't even close to matching the new flooring. And then there was the damage to the new flooring during installation. The large staple gun that was used to "nail" the flooring was placed dozens of times on the previously installed flooring leaving nail head size indentations across the entire floor. And then there was the "customer service". Made appointment with Ackerman (the owner?) to inspect the damage and he never showed up, he didn't call, text, or email that he was going to make it. During one of numerous calls, asked Jessica to have Ackerman call us. She emailed me that she couldn't get him to talk to us. But to be honest, full discloser: 2nd Street is giving us $40 for the 1/4 round. Bottom-line: we will never use 2nd Street again and will never recommend them to anyone.

I can't say enough about the professionalism and responsiveness of the owners, as well as the quality of the craftsmanship. The owners kept the project on schedule in the midst of the 2026 ice storm and the guys were a pleasure to work with--very professional and helpful--and the craftsmanship was superb. We will enjoy these floors for a lifetime. Furthermore--they did all of this work while producing little to no dust. When we had floors refinished in a previous house with a different business, the dust went everywhere and was impossible to clean. Not so with Sword Floors! The house was clean as a whistle. If you want high-quality wood floors and service completed in a timely fashion, you can't go wrong with Sword Floors.

After a kitchen remodel that included removing a wall, we were left with a gap in our family room carpeting where the wall had once stood. We decided that rather than replacing the carpet, we would switch to hardwood, but we needed it to match the wood flooring in the adjoining rooms. Sword did a fantastic job of installing the new family room wood floors, then sanding and staining our old floors to rejuvenate the late-1990s finish, which had yellowed with time. Sword's communication, punctuality, and professionalism were all top notch. Now we have beautiful floors for a fraction of what replacing our existing hardwood would have cost. Sword worked with our schedule, and we're thrilled with the result.

While the…read moreproject was completed in November, our experience since then has been extremely frustrating. After the job was finished, there was no notification that the job was complete. In fact, several materials and tools were left scattered behind. We then discovered numerous issues and excessive damage caused during the process. This included problems with the subfloor, uneven stain coverage where the old stain shows through, gaps and transition issues, mismatched show moulding, and multiple baseboards that were torn off and not reattached correctly. There was also damage to surrounding walls and trim that occurred during the work. A representative from the company finally came out to review these concerns after numerous contact attempts. Upon reviewing the work in person, RVA flooring acknowledged that portions of the work were done incorrectly. We were assured the issues would be corrected and that someone would follow up to schedule the repairs. Unfortunately, that follow-up never happened. For months, we have made repeated attempts to contact the scheduling team to set a date for the agreed-upon fixes, but our outreach has largely gone unanswered. At this point, we are simply trying to have the workmanship issues and damage addressed as promised. We chose Flooring RVA expecting professional service, quality installation, and accountability. We are still hopeful they will stand behind their work and make this right, and we ask that someone from the company contact us to schedule the necessary repairs.

We unfortunately paid in advance, the carpet got installed and as the installers were finished we noticed black stains in multiple places. Immediately let the business know. Instead of just replacing it, they wanted try a carpet cleaner, which I should have never agreed to, but I let them try. It didn't work. Then, instead of just replacing it, they wanted to come in and cut out sections to replace, which even their installer said they wouldn't be able to make match with the seams. Their answer? To cover those parts with transition strips. Cheaped out at every step. The lack of communication is insane, weeks will go by and you can't get a response without threatening to write a bad review. In the end we end up with mucked up carpet and no resolution because we paid up front. Do yourself a favor and light your money on fire instead of doing business with this place.
