After admiring their handbags for months, I bought one of the fabric and leather bags at the end of September. Less than two weeks after purchase, the fabric appeared discolored after I got caught in a very light rain/mist. I gently tried to clean it using a toothbrush and water. The discoloration grew. When I took the bag back to the store, the owner blamed me for trying to clean the bag. I told her I thought a $450 handbag should be more durable. She told me care instructions were on a website that she tells all customers about. However, she never mentioned a website to me and when I pointed that out, she once again blamed me -- it was my fault for not asking if there was a website. Huh? I'm going to try to get a refund directly from my credit card company. I'm totally frustrated by this experience as I want to support small businesses and female entrepreneurs, but this was a terrible experience. Poor quality product, terrible customer service. Concerned about the longevity of this cute shop.

Ugh! I wish I had read through these reviews before investing $500 in a Kempton & Co. bag…read more Similar to some of the other reviewers, I also experienced discoloration on my bag--after just one wear! And this happened twice! The first time around, I expected what would be a normal, adequate response: that they would refund or exchange the bag. Not so! Instead, I spent three weeks bringing my bag back into the store (one time having to wait an hour for the store to open because they happened to be late that day), awaiting feedback/response from them, and waiting for it to be sent out to their "specialists". After this lengthy process, they said they would have the bag cleaned and cover the cost (umm, shouldn't that be a given??). They then came back and said the discoloration was from denim, and suggested I stay away from wearing the bag with jeans (which I wear every day). The extremely unhelpful manager told me to "have fun with the bag! wear it with your dresses and skirts!". Unhappily, I took the bag back, and after a few weeks of being scared to take it out of the dust bag, decided to give it another go. I wore it one day with a white dress (devoid of any color, just in case). The next day, I wore it with a light grey cotton dress. And low and behold, that evening I noticed staining on the bag! I once again reached out to the store, and the response I got was essentially the same as before "Every bag that is purchased from our store has a leather care card inside for guidelines regarding light-colored bags, and dyes having the potential to crock onto them. Additionally, we have further instructions on our website for care and maintenance. We address care instructions with purchase due to this potential crocking being increased with a white bag. This is the nature of a white item's affinity to coloration." So basically: I cannot wear this bag with jeans. I cannot wear it with dresses. My question for Kempton & Co. is, what can I wear it with!? Do yourself a favor: avoid this store. They have cute, unique style but the quality is abysmal and the customer service even worse.

Jutta makes the highest quality sandals (none of the beautiful brass nails have wiggled their way out and the leather hasn't dried out or cracked after years of wear and no oiling or conditioning on my part). She stands behind her product (after you've stretched out the straps your first season of wearing them in, she will disassemble them, tighten and trim the leather, and reassemble) And her prices for add-ons are fair (she will resole them once you've worn the leather too far with elegant thin rubber soles that don't detract from the sandal style and even adds a little heel piece since heels often wear fastest, for only $35 last I checked). Jutta is proof that impeccable service and quality products make for happy customers and referrals. I can't tell you how many people to whom I've raved about Jutta. So much free publicity! She is proof that buying local is worth it and that you will be rewarded with years of use for spending a little extra money on something handmade instead of something cheap from a factory. And if you're used to paying designer prices it's no more expensive! And you bet your life you aren't going to get Michael Kors or Miucci Prada to maintain your investment for you and extend its life! Sorry sucker will be the reply from most companies! This location in SoHo is not fake and the owner carries a long history of experience in high-end estate jewelry. Frankly, if you're vintage hunting but don't know what you're doing, you probably shouldn't be vintage hunting to begin with since it's definitely a learned skill. My Mom and I are high-end vintage collectors, particularly of classic Louis Vuitton. To us, the newer LVs are a hot mess. We love the classic French style of the signature patterns with impeccable hardware and not these new, tacky designs with mediocre craftsmanship. We purchased two authentic Louis Vuitton's here that were in-line with what we might pay in Ohio. They are in wonderful condition (minus a little water stain here or there on the patina). We love that they are larger sized bags and not small pochettes, which can be what some stores limit themselves to. Excellent selection of products and the owner Stephen is very friendly knowledgeable. I highly recommend this shop on your vintage crawl of New York City!

My daughter purchased it originally and we trade it back and forth. When I went to the Hayden and Harnett website I was disappointed that all their products are now vegan leather. They are involved with PETA and have changed their mission. I advised the saleswoman that I wanted to see the travel watch cases. She informed me that they only had one version. It wasn't what I was looking for and was told that this was all they had. She wandered off and I soon discovered that they in fact did have another version. It was literally right on display. I pointed it out and her response was "oh yeah and we actually have this one, too." She pulls another version out from below the counter. When I advised her, I was going to keep looking, she went to the back of the empty store - there were no other customers - to hang out with the two other salespeople. Umm - ok. No suggestions for other purchases, no offer to help. I end up identifying some EarPod holders. I have to go to the back of the store to tell her. The male salesperson goes to the storage room to get a new one in a box and then proceeds to use his nail to scrape off the price tag. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. This is supposed to be a luxury luggage store in Soho. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Is this a joke? Now comes my salesperson attempting to wrap the gift in Tumi paper with her extra long nails. Rather than clear off the countertop, she attempts to wrap it amongst a cluttered countertop. She is unable to manage because of her nails and ends up sealing it with a Tumi sticker on its side. (By the time, I got it home, the sticker had come off.) She shoves the gift and some paper in the bag and hands it to me. The whole experience was really off putting. There was zero attempt to show me any merchandise. The saleswoman had no knowledge of the store's inventory and I left with something I didn't want. Better service at the McDonalds up the street.
