Took over a building with fire, zero notice, therefor most paid the old rental company. Upon this, they decided to give out mass evictions on top of an inspection.
I have been ignored for 2+ weeks by management, although they continue to give out hot water notices and other notices.
3 unauthorized entries, Maintenance who think they own your apartment and have no information about tenant rights, although that is a managers job to communicate with their staff. One of their workers harassed me after I wouldn't let them in, claiming I'm crazy and going to get evicted.
Notices given the day after someone enters your unit unknowingly.
Often hot water.
Very clearly, no regard for tenants. Construction in many parts of the building, 7 days a week, 9am-6pm.
Continuous complaints from previous tenants from 4+ years ago.
Sketchy, I'm concerned they have my SIN number. Do a favor and read the reviews on google, or not waste any time. It's better than being homeless at least, it feels like Christmas + my birthday to be moving out.
The unprofessional, argumentative building manager and maintenance workers are on a power trip and don't communicate even with each other. The alternative (emergency) contacts are unresponsive, if there is an actual emergency good luck getting help.
If you value any sense of tenant rights, professionalism, your sanity and a peaceful/safe place to call home, this is not the place. On top of three entries without notice (2 I was naked and sleeping, one worker laughed and joked in the hall after which I need to translate), one notice was given the day after entry. When notices are given, there isn't a real signature, there's a large window of times and even days that they let themselves in. When asked if maintenance had access to my apartment 24/7, my email was ignored for 2 weeks, after my second follow up Christina set an automated message stating she was out of the office for days. Emails forwarded to other management were ignored. Even with knowing the issue it continued to happen.
The moving company even blacklisted the building after dealing with her for an hour. The consistent construction work was prioritized over my scheduled move out, making it harder.
Maintenance workers have little respect, extremely loud in the hallways and lots of swearing + inappropriate jokes. One called me crazy after denying entry, and threatened eviction. Entry is required for things that don't need to be: replacing carpet in hallways, giving new keys (there are mailboxes for this?). Construction is going on in multiple areas of the building with no warning. Doors are inaccessible because of construction, again no notice and rude workers. For some reason the whole building had to be ripped apart before anything was replaced, such as every hallway in the building ripped out and then loudly drilled for days, going through the whole building. There have been no cameras in the hallway for months.
Hot water has been spotty, within the first 2 months of them taking over there were full days with no hot water. Rarely a notice is given. The heat is awful, have fun sitting in front of a space heater once its -5.
When my email wasn't acknowledged, I taped the notice on my door requesting a different time, that was ripped off and they entered anyway.
Everything is a huge headache here, on top of consistent anxiety about men entering my 'home', at any time.
While replacing all unit locks, many were locked out of their apartment (able to hear the hallway perfectly) due to the notice being old. No reminder email, no acknowledgement. Elevators are disgusting, sketchy, slow and used by maintenance all the time. Took my blinds, left nothing on 1 window, the other has literal paper blinds.
How Leston Holdings has government grants after countless complaints (+private RTDRS)for 4+ years is crazy.
I don't recognize anyone, they've pushed the old tenants out. Majority of conversation in the elevator was about rude management, construction, and how they won't be renewing their lease. I am very very very happy I didn't renew my lease. It was clear their intentions were to let old tenants move out so they can upcharge new people.
The entry door sometimes doesn't close, this is blamed on cold weather, which is dangerous due to location. Workers left black marks on my carpet which 'they're not liable for'.
I can hear upstairs + downstairs of me using the bathroom. Describing signature place as 'clean and quiet' is laughable. The company doesn't learn from its mistakes, everything is a band aid to the problem. I couldn't be paid to live here again. Once the months and months long construction is done, I guarantee it'll be problem after problem.
Years of illegal entry complaints paired with unprofessionalism is scary.
I advise current tenants to install cameras and request abatement of rent. Having spoken to two lawyers, this is recommended, and if they refuse to co-operate, please go to RTDRS. They also have my SIN #, which no rental, read more
