The staff is completely dismissive and rude. They yell at each other and speak to customers in the same tone. It is a very tense and stressful place to shop as you are made to feel like you're bothering the staff by being there. If you have a question it is answered in a one word sentence and accompanied by rolling eyes or rude faces being made. Basic rules of retail is the be respectful and kind to clients in the store, start hiring people who actually care to work there and help people. read more

Rude associates! Recently I took my 11 years old daughter (she is tall but slim) to Lester's for a swimsuit for an upcoming pool party. We were in the kids section (7-14) and an associate came over and said "you need to go over to the junior section. Nothing will fit her here" and kept pointing at her legs then she took the swimsuits out of my hand and put them back on the rack! I told her my daughter wears a 12/14 in clothes. She rolled her eyes and said "maybe the 16 will fit". After picking some from the kids section, we went over to the junior section just in case it would be more appropriate and all the swimsuits are not something I want my 11 years old walking around in. Either the tops were padded or the bottom was quite revealing. We tried on some of the selected kids swimsuits and most were too big. This is not the first time an associate told me my child was too big. It happened 4-5 years ago with an older child and we were buying a winter coat. They wouldn't even let me have her try on the coat cause she supposedly belongs in the junior section. We just walked out. These associates need to be trained to be sensitive to consumers! We do not need people telling our kids they are too big for something. Good thing both my kids are strong women and unfazed by the lack of matters from two different associates years apart. read more

I was in dire need of new sweatpants and my friend from Rye Brook recommended this place to me since there was a sale and this woman with black hair kept following me asking if I needed help. I told her that i knew my way around a clothing store (Kate knows ). I told her to back off or else. She continued to follow me. I then went to ask her superior if i could get a discount for emotional damages or i would sue. The woman with the straight black hair lit a cigarette blew smoke up my nose IN THE STORE!!! She then proceeded to put it out on my nose. I will be sending you my hospital bill and invoice for my nose job that is now partially melted. Will not be returning. read more

I live in a prominent area of New Jersey. I was told that they have upscale clothing for kids of all ages, and I must go when in the area. Their clothing selection and brand names do not compare to other areas! I do not get why people even go there to spend money???. This was so disappointing!! If that was not bad enough, they told my oldest daughter that we needed to leave. They said that they were closing and it was 5:50, they closed at 6 pm . My daughter was ready to go to the register and purchase her items. After a long drive, we were not dressed up to their standards. They treated us with disrespect. In summary, they do not have the selection that people think they have, certainly don't have the latest and greatest fashions as I have seen everywhere else. They are overpriced and awful people. I grew up going to the Lester's on the Upper East Side and have been around for the evolution of Lester's throughout the years. I vaguely remember that there was one in downtown Rye at one point but I am pretty sure that one closed and now this is the only location in Westchester. The clothing for teens/tweens is cute. However, the prices are outrageous. Sometimes, I go in to look for myself since I'm fairly petite and many of their pants/tops fit better. However, $95 for a t-shirt is quite outrageous. Their selection also is not great as well -- I found myself even just looking for a pair of pants to gift for a toddler and was quite dismayed. Honestly, you are better going off going to Denny's if you want the same types of clothing for much more reasonable prices. I find the customer service to be quite obnoxious as well. read more

I shopped with my daughter for a baby layette this Sunday. We had a wonderful experience with Anastasia. She was knowledgeable, helpful, and non-pressuring. My only complaint was that they were out of sizes in one or two essential items and in some more special outfits for celebrations etc. But because of the pandemic, expecting quick delivery is not realistic regardless of the type of merchandise. I would also like to mention the superb treatment we received during checkout. Augustine was not only meticulous but also kind and caring as he packed some of the more costly items. I am reviewing Westport, which thankfully is about to shut down. They have the rudest, nastiest staff known to mankind. Always standing around watching you like you are going to steal the ugly clothes. Every item is censored tagged-even a bra which is hard to try on with a tag. The clothes are cheaply made and a colossal rip-off. If you buy brooks or Lauren clothes, you know they will last. This stuff is garbage. No wonder the store is closing. It was horrible! read more

I'm not a regular customer of Lester's but have spent some money in the Rye store since it opened. I am writing to tell you how terrible my experience was when I tried to shop today (3-4-12). Your sales-women are sharks! Never did they let me browse. I went in looking for jeans and a bathing suit for my son. We were immediately accosted by a salesperson who would not leave us alone. When she asked for my son's size she immediately started handing us various size 12 jeans without letting my son decide which styles and brands he preferred. She finally left after we ignored her for several minutes. Then after shopping for jean another saleswoman (maybe a manager) saw that we were looking at bathing suits so she decided to force feed several bathing suit styles on my son. At least she did ask what colors he liked. For some reason, because she might have been a manager, she was called away to help someone else, so she asked a third person to look after my son and I. We were doing just fine without the help.This third woman tried to sell me everything I happened to look at while my son was trying on suits. I get it that these women are on commission (I hope they were), but I have to tell you, as convenient to my home as Lester's might be, I will never shop there again. Why won't the staff let me browse? If I have questions, I will ask. Have them spend some time at Brooks Brothers, Nordstom, or even J Crew to see how these commissioned sales people interact with customers. I thought it was me, but when we got to the car, my son asked me why those women wouldn't leave us alone. The retail community in lower Westchester is very fickle--consider this advice. read more

Ew. The tweens like it-for now-but as a mother, I hate it. The clothes are overprices and so cheap. I can deal with overpriced but well made, but these clothes are assembled in China in three seconds, fall apart in the wash, and shrink. You expect that from Forever 21 or Rowme, but their shirts are $5-10, not $46 dollars. Second, the store staff is horrible. Every time I walk out of this store I say the same thing "why did I go back?". I go because it's only store where they actually have a selection of girls and teen clothing in stock. It gets tiring ordering everything online and then making returns. The staff at this store are so indifferent/rude to the customers. This place has horrible customer service. I bought a top which wasn't cheap. I wore it once and the shoulder area started fraying. Not a good sign when your paying $70 for a cotton top. My boyfriend brought it back and they turned him away. It hasn't even been more than 15days. Are you kidding. I was looking for shorts and they were $179 for a pair of plain white denim shorts. You woulda thought lol I could buy the same exact thing somewhere else for $20 so no thanks. The only good thing they sell is mitzvah dresses and pajama pants. Most of their employees are so rude I can't even begin to explain. I literally bought this app and searched for Lester's so that I could take my time out of my day to tell everyone what bad customer service this store has. Fat shaming is not the answer. EVER. Never go here. They told my daughter she should go into the adult section when she's 13! And said the size 14 in the kids section was bigger than the size small in the adults section which is completely irrelevant to the conversation and is fat shaming my daughter by saying she doesn't have the waist to wear it when it is her size. What an awful experience. Nice selection of clothing but the most miserable salesperson ever. This woman tried to push something on me that wasn't my size and seemed to not want to do what she was there to do. Then after being completely ignored in the messy dressing room area with a number of items in my hands I figured the customers could just walk into an open fitting room. The same saleswoman opened the door on me and instead of apologizing snapped at me to hand her the clothes that were already in there. I didn't even finish trying on the items I had brought into the room. I will never walk into your store ever again. With Bloomingdales nearby and the Internet it's pretty easy to find the merchandise carried at this place elsewhere. If you are in the structurally declining brick and mortar retail business, it doesn't help to have salespeople who repel customers. read more

I walked into Lester's expecting to find some clothing for fall. After lurking a bunch of racks, I saw many things I liked- and very few, that weren't too overpriced. However, a majority of the clothing is ridiculously overpriced & not even worth trying on. I do have to say though, I like the style that Lester's attempts to portray. The women working there are all middle aged women who clearly don't take their jobs seriously. A woman working there walked up to me and asked me if I wanted a dressing room, feeling unsure I handed her the 2 pairs of jeans I was holding. 2 minutes later, after grabbing a few more items, I went to look for my so-called "dressing room" that apparently didn't even exist- when I asked the lady where she put the jeans I wanted to try on she said "someone must have taken them out of the dressing room I put them in, sorry" and didn't even bother to help me find them...Well if that wasn't a buzzkill and a half. Then, I go to the counter to pay and after watching the employees chill out and gossip for a short while they rang me up after about 15 minutes of waiting time and no one else on line. read more

Came in for an interview to earn some extra money for the Holliday. Probably one of the worst things I could have done. The place reminded me of a goodwill store. The manager seems to think she runs a lord and Taylor. She talked way too highly of her store and put down the places I have previously worked at. What really shocked me was when she had asked about my previous work history and what I enjoyed about my last job, I had told her how much I loved the diversity. Her response was something like well we don't cater to those types the of people (meaning minorities).The employees are extremely rude. Not once was I greeted or acknowledged when I walked in the store. On my way out I smiled politely and said goodbye to a few girls putting some clothes away, they looked at me in disgust and went back to doing their job. lesters in rye brook is infested with bed bugs someone must have taken in with them. there is an open case regarding the bed bug situation . the manager disregarded the incident in ok involving bed bugs telling me to lower my voice or get out " business is business " while insulting me by the color of my skin half italian but she made me feel so terribly im completely embarrassed to reveal the ethnic background ive always been proud of . i worn you bed bugs have been spreading !!!after leaving lesters department store . one of my best girl friends work with her and explained to me how urgent and a health hazard she has gotten bugs taken home with her and many other employees and so do customers. she goes into work everyday in fear walking on egg shells of being fired if she was to bring the situation up a second time to andria the manager of the store . i advice do not go there ! it's infested read more

The staff was very nice, the selection wasn't overwhelmingly huge but there was still a good amount of clothes. The staff walked up to me and my daughter a few times asking us if they wanted to star a dressing room, if we needed any help, and when my daughter was trying on clothes they asked us about sizes and helped us out. Lester's of Rye is a nice department store. They have REALLY nice clothing for both men and women. They are a little pricey but if you need nice clothes to go out in then you will definitely like their selection. There is one employee in particular I would like to mention. Her name is Emily A. and she is one of the most helpful department store employees I have encountered in a while. While most employees (especially the women) at high end department stores like this are just looking to sell you anything and everything, I felt like this young lady genuinely wanted to make sure I walked out the door a happy customer. I had been shopping for my wife at the time (probably a mistake haha) and I had no clue what she wanted me to get. She was at work so I could not call and ask so I had to describe what she was looking for to this young lady. She spent a very long time with me and tried her best to find what I was looking for. Ultimately, my wife was not satisfied with what I purchased (when are they ever lol?) but I was just very surprised at the level of dedication this employee had towards helping me get what I needed.
