I am currently giving this practice three stars, although I plan to give the doctor and staff…read moreanother opportunity before making a final judgment. My initial experience with Sam, the nurse practitioner, and the physician assistant was very pleasant. They were warm, professional, and made me feel optimistic that I had found a family practice where I could establish long-term care. Unfortunately, my experience changed after my laboratory results became available. A receptionist named Britney called me and immediately began discussing my results without first asking whether I was in a private place or prepared to receive medical information. I was at work and had to interrupt her and ask her to wait while I moved somewhere private. I had assumed she was calling only to schedule a follow-up appointment. I believe staff members discussing medical information should always confirm that the patient is able to speak privately before sharing results. When I returned for my follow-up appointment, there also appeared to be some confusion at the front desk. Although I had confirmed my appointment the previous day, the doctor stated that he had not known I was coming and had taken another patient before me. He apologized, but the delay made me late for work. Once I was called back, the process felt rushed. I was quickly directed onto the scale and then placed in a room with a medical student. I was not asked whether I was comfortable having a student participate in my appointment. The student repeatedly described my hormonal status in a way that did not match what I had previously been told, and our discussion about vitamin D supplementation felt dismissive rather than collaborative. I was also uncomfortable with the student shifting and rocking from side to side in my peripheral vision while the doctor discussed some concerning health information. That made an already stressful conversation more difficult. Later, when the doctor returned and spoke with me privately, the interaction was much more comfortable. He was pleasant, made eye contact, explained things more clearly, and ultimately did a good job addressing my concerns. I wish the receptionist had demonstrated a better understanding of patient privacy, that I had been asked for consent before a medical student joined the appointment, and that the visit had not felt so rushed. Staffing problems, scheduling confusion, and the absence of a manager may explain why the office was having a difficult day, but patients should not have to absorb the consequences. Overall, the doctor handled the appointment well toward the end, and my first visit with the other clinical staff had been positive. I spent considerable time researching family-practice physicians because I hoped to establish ongoing care here. For that reason, I am willing to give the doctor and the office another chance before deciding whether this practice is the right fit for me.

Dr. Dean is very thorough with his questions and during my initial visits and follow-up visits, he is very kind, thoughtful, and thorough with his questions. I was very open about my symptoms, and Dr. Dean and his team were open to multiple reasons why I may be feeling my symptoms and recommended some medication that finally provided relief for my GERD that I've been having for years. He does not always have openings for new patients but if you do get to have him as your doctor, you will not be disappointed.

I will never know is this doctor is even good or not because I was turned away by the receptionist…read more I have an assistant to help me with all of the doctors I go to because of my poor health. My assistant called to see if I could see the doctor earlier then my original appointment and that enraged the receptionist enough to bring my assistant to TEARS. I called back to make the appointment myself and the receptionist said "your a new patient so I don't have to put up with this crap. Go elsewhere!" And hung up on me. I'm disgusted that someone who works for a reputable doctor could be so irrational, insensitive, volatile and down right nasty to anyone let alone a person who needs medical attention. My disease flares up when I'm emotionally distressed so thanks to this nut job, I'll be stuck in bed until further notice. I beg this practice to keep this woman off the phone because she is costing you money and just damaged your reputation forever in my eyes. I'll stick with the real professionals at Cedars and UCLA from now on.

Though we each got there for different reasons, we appreciate how candid and professional Dr. Alabadi is, while also being easy to talk with; a rare combination in the doctoring game. He makes recommendations without scolding. He offers understanding to challenges that one might have with living situation, insurance, lifestyle concerns, and other aspects of life that can affect one's health. I've never felt judged there, which I can't always say with some other healthcare providers. We tend to make afternoon appointments, because I work full time, and it's less invasive to my work obligations. Yesterday they were running behind, which became understandable once we were called into an exam room. They have a new EMR (Electronic Medical Records) system, aided by AI, which means that the system handles a lot of the record logging, giving the doctor more time to focus on discussions with the patients, plus the physical exam. As this is new for them, there were a few minor glitches. I could tell how excited Dr. A is for this new development. Given how many patients he sees each day, an effective new tool should be very helpful to him. I appreciate the information he shared about options for medications for a condition I have to manage. DH will have some tests coming up that he hasn't had done for a long time. All good stuff in taking care of us, and we are grateful. Gave him a thumbs up on the re-design of the waiting room. They've embraced colorful artwork showing off the natural beauty, plus manmade architectural contributions, of Catalina Island. Very cheerful, and SoCal-appropriate.

It's looking good so far, and am hoping that maintaining my overall heart health will be a lot simpler with that procedure having been accomplished. I also like the subtle changes that have come about at the office space that he inherited when he took over the practice. It feels more modern and more cared for than previously.
