Ethical Culture is an ethical, educational, and religious movement established in 1877 by the academic Felix Adler. I'm using the term Ethical Culture but it goes by many different terms such as humanist. I'm definitely not an intellectual so I enjoy the programs particularly music. It's been years since I thought about going to the New York City campus. I saw a poster about Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and thought I would share this show in March 2025 at Adler Hall with you. It is pre war and it was used to store and transport all sorts of products, grain, tobacco etc. Today many businesses have manufacturing and warehouse facilities there.

The 4-million square foot BAT complex was used as a supply base and military depot during both World Wars. During WWII, it became the country's largest military supply base. Soldiers were deployed from here -- Elvis Presley being the most famous. BAT was decommissioned in 1964. Much of the original architecture remains today. A variety of tenants lease the space. I spent a long time in Building B's impressively majestic main atrium, soaking in the stunningly silent and solemn atmosphere. It was late in the day, and overcast. I was one of the only ones there. It felt almost reverent, as if I was in an industrial cathedral. Very cool to also see the old track where freight trains use to pull in and unload their cargo. Afterwards, it was a short walk around back to catch the NYC ferry. I'd love to return one day and explore more of this remarkable place.

There's also a park outside and Sylvan Terrace, which is part of the whole experience. They have tons of activities there too, tours, art shows, music, they show movies sometimes outside. If you want to just go there to walk your dog you can that as well, just in some place where George Washington used to walk around and now you're dog is sniffing around it. It's always well kept, everything always feels calm and peaceful in there, a little oasis in the city.

I had seen a show recently in which paranormal investigators heard the footsteps of someone who said that he was Aaron Burr. We did not see or hear any ghosts, alas. But the very nice guide did say that she and other people who worked in the mansion had all experienced the presence of ...something. The rooms are lovely, beautifully furnished with period pieces. The octagon room is stunning, and the details of the restorations by Traci Telasco are interesting. Oddly, there weren't any wardrobes/armoires, or closets, that I could see. Aaron Burr and William both had large beds, while Eliza Jumel had a lit de repos--quite narrow, with a swan tester. The kitchen was disappointing. Just a giant fireplace with an oven, a huge kettle and other old pots, and a candle mold on the mantel. There was also an old table and benches, presumably for the servants to have their meals. The butler's pantry was not on the tour, because it is now a restroom. I don't know exactly what we expected, but a kitchen from Pompeii was far more impressive. It seems difficult to understand how the elaborate meals of the era could be produced with just a fireplace and an oven, although apparently the long-handled pans were held over the fire. It was a fun trip to the Heights on the M5 bus. I would go back in the Spring to see the Glade. And Sylvan Terrace was lovely!

Nice mall, but pricey. You are only walking distance from The High-line and the Chelsea Market. A lot of tourists and a bit crowded. Depends what time of the day you visit.

December 2021 - COVID Review:…read more My husband and I didn't do any actual shopping here but it was a beautiful multi-floored shopping mall! It was decorated for the holidays when we went. They don't have a food court but the food and drink options are spread throughout their 5 floors. There's seating also spread throughout the floors. The Vessel is located right outside and the Edge can be accessed from the 4th floor.

Minister Lanci officiated our wedding at F+J Pine Restaurant in the Bronxdale area of Bronx, NY on…read more12/13/15. Minister Lanci came with a glowing recommendations from one of the venues we were considering and after an initial phone call we knew she was the officiant for us and were so happy to she agreed. We made sure to secure her services well before our wedding date and she made sure that we were tracking to have everything we need for our wedding day (in regards to the ceremony), license, vows, decoration, etc. Not only was Judy very attentive to our needs, she also made sure that she got to know us as a couple, and made our ceremony personalized based on who we are as individuals and together. Minister Lanci went above and beyond our expectations and made sure to get in contact with our venue and to be sure that they have everything in place for ceremony which took a load of stress off of us. To this day we still see parts of things she said during our ceremony being quoted by friends and family on social media.

My son really loves this experience, from the allergy free cookie, to the gold coin and reindeer food, but most of all, the staff and Santa! So nice and magical! The pictures this year came out even better than last year! It does take a bit for the pics. This year it was Dec 5 and got the pics on Dec 23 which is 18 days later. We are already planning to go back next year for their new experience with Santa & Mrs Claus ! Highly recommend booking early, this booking was made in July and the previous year in August. I plan to book this time with early release in January/February!

Dan wrote a book about his experience befriending John and Yoko, how he photographed them and how he is still friends with Yoko to this day. The building is beautiful, and while I wish I had the experience of seeing the inside, I know from pictures, and from what I heard, it is beautiful. One day I would really like to see the inside.
