La Ruche a Miel was a nice little respite from a busy day sightseeing in Paris. We choose seven…read moreAlgerian (or is it Moroccan?) pastries. My favorite was the one topped with pistachios (though to be fair there may be a few topped with pistachios). Also good were the lemon one and the powdered sugar one with orange. We also shared a pot of mint tea, which is when I realized mint tea doesn't really do anything for me. Because of my unfamiliarity with Algerian pastries we didn't love the treats and some of them blended together a bit, but we enjoyed our little experience with Algerian baked goods. When my daughter went to the counter to get a second of her favorite treats, the counter person threw in three small extra treats, which was a sweet touch. The seating area is a stunner that makes you feel like you're in North Africa. There is a set of steep steps to the bathroom. The lock on the door is hard to move and my daughter locked herself in for a worrisome 30 seconds where I wondered what we would do if she couldn't get out.

Service was a bit slow, but cordial. We had the de menthe (tea with mint)- elegantly served, and very tasty. I'm not a big tea drinker, but hey, put sugar in it and I'm good. Next we had tagines- pots with your food simmering inside. Mom had tagine de poulet- chicken with pears, figs, and almonds. Simply amazing. I had tagine de kefta- basically meatballs in a tomato sauce, but with Moroccan seasonings. Outstanding. I ate every bit, plus some of hers. Dessert was a simple honey crepe. Very good. Paris is a foodie paradise. Everywhere you look there seem to be restaurants like this, of all types.

Angelina, Paris, France -- April 12…read more Our family of four with kids ages 9 and 10 stopped here for lunch after visiting the Louvre, drawn in by its reputation for having the best hot chocolate in the world. We were looking for a place to relax and refuel, and the experience felt a bit mixed overall. Arrival and First Impressions The space is elegant with classic Parisian charm. The line moved quickly, and we were seated with a great view of the dining room. It felt refined but still comfortable. The Highlights The famous hot chocolate lived up to expectations, thick, rich, and almost more like a dessert than a drink. We also had French onion soup and an éclair, both of which were very good. The pastries were clearly well made and thoughtfully prepared. The kids had chicken tenders, which they enjoyed, even though the tomato sauce was a bit different from what they expected. The Challenges The biggest drawback was the price. The meal felt expensive for what we ordered, coming in at €154 for a fairly simple lunch. Service felt slightly rushed as they moved tables along quickly. Final Thoughts We would likely return if we were nearby and specifically craving the hot chocolate again. It is a classic Paris stop and worth trying once, but the value may not justify going out of your way unless that signature experience is high on your list.

It really tastes like melted chocolate with a bit of milk mixed in to make it more drinkable. We went at a bit of an off time, late morning and it wasn't overly busy. We saw our server once and I couldn't recall who he was when it came time to get the bill. I asked a hostess walking by for our check and she told me to ask our server while walking away. We were able to flag another server down eventually but the whole process just took too long. The tables for four have chairs that don't quite tuck in causing for a bit awkward seating. If you like really thick hot chocolate, give it a try but otherwise ok to miss this one. Plenty of good hot chocolate throughout the city.
