We ordered two baguettes and they blew us away! They were perfectly crusty on the outside but so incredibly soft on the inside. These particular baguettes had a somewhat tangy taste that we weren't able to find in any of the other breads we had while visiting the city. While eating this bread, I realized two things. 1. I have been deprived of good baguettes my whole life 2. I will never eat another baguette again and not compare it the one I had here

They have English menus and some English speaking servers. The food was so fresh and completely reminded me of a California style cafe with smoothies, juices, salads and teas. My falafel salad was one of my most favorite things I ate in Paris and if I could have eaten here another time I would have. We were not disappointed. The owner of the restaurant runs it, and he is probably the nicest French gentleman you will ever meet. To the point, however, the crepes! The crepes were the finest crepes we had during our entire week in Paris, and while I'm sure there are many more places to try, the owner of Le Petit Grumeau and his crepes impressed us so much we went back a second time at the end of our stay in Paris. Being a celiac, it was important for us to be able to have buckwheat (au blé noir) crepes. The savory crepes are buckwheat by default, and asking politely can reward you with a buckwheat sweet crepe. Gluten-free crepes are the best crepes. P.S. the menu also has English translations for easy ordering if you're from the US or UK or Canada (you know, the Canadians who don't already speak French)

I've never really liked crepe but having the crepes here changed my attitude. The owner was quite the gentleman and we got along well. The second day we came in, the patrons were the type of individuals you would expect in a French movie. Thus, this made for an interesting evening with long stimulating conversations. We came from eclectic backgrounds: two psychologist including my wife, a government worker who just returned from China (he still had his luggage), a World Health Organization specialist with her French teacher husband, and myself a wounded war veteran from the crap we pulled in Iraq and Afghanistan (though I did not offer that bit of information). Good crepes are endemic to France, but the clientele, ownership, and ambiance are all unique. If you happen upon the Latin quater, try stoppin by this quaint shop. It may round off your vacation to France quite nicely.
