The location is perfect--right on Main Street, and the ladies who assisted us were friendly and helpful. We walked out with two walking tour pamphlets, a couple of coupons and a map that included where to find the trolleys. They even told us where we could find a simple lunch. This is the perfect first stop for your trip to Durango.

Fantastic free flowing white water rafting experience in the upper Animas river! I was expecting a…read morelittle more class IV rapids than what we had, but the experience was epic! We paddled through sun, rain, and hail, all in one trip! Epic, I tell u!! Our guides, Marcus and Robby were the best! Super cool dudes who were super knowledgeable! They kept us safe and made the experience such a blast! Colorado had the lowest snowfall this past winter so the river was really low and rapids were on the slow side. Make sure to check river flow and CSF levels if u decide to book this adventure so that u're not surprised by the low flow. The river only clocked in at 620 cfs when we ran it, so we didn't have too many big rapids and drops, but it was a very technical run and such a blast to experience this ultimate and wild experience with my hubby!!

Our group had the time of our lives floating down the Animas riv with our elite guide Kaia, who was…read morein charge of the whole trip. Kaia was knowledgeable, organized, accommodating, and could have shepherded us down the route completely by herself if necessary. River guiding is clearly in her blood and the generations of river guides in her family must be proud. She is equal parts expert guide and fun banterer. If you're 8 or 80 or somewhere in between like us, you'll appreciate how Kaia gets down. No disrespect to any other river guides, but if Kaia doesn't win MVP of the week, they got to scrap this system and build back from the bottom up. On the other hand, there was one guide reportedly named ZB that was a complete vibe killer. If that guy wins, they also need to revamp this whole operation. Hope he enjoys a nice Dante's Inferno from Barber and the Bookcase and rethinks his approach to River guideship.

On Friday, he sat in the First Officer's seat of a Cessna (complete with headset) and flew six hundred feet over his school, viewing the last nine months of his life from totally different perspective. Without reservation I can say firsthand that soaring over snow capped La Plata peaks and the Animas Valley with my son and Max, was an intimate and visually spectacular experience that was worth every penny! I highly encourage not only Durango visitors, but locals alike to take advantage of this unique opportunity with Max. And if you're a parent, flying with Tall Pines Aviation will create a powerful and inspiring memories that you and your children will forever share. I could inform you that this is the most stunning and well laid out campground that I have visited but that would just lead you staying there and leaving me stay somewhere else. I could also tell you that the staff was terrible but people like Madeline and her wonderful customer service would convince you that they do everything to make sure that you're well cared for. All kidding aside THIS PLACE IS GORGEOUS, CLEAN, STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL, QUIET, FULL UTILITIES AND WELL LAID OUT. It's everything you would dream of in a Colorado Glamping experience. So if you don't book all of the sites, then that will leave an opening for me to return.

They still have yummy ice cream. Don't plan on pulling out your fire wood there's a fire ban but you can continue to use a propane fire pit.

I spent a little time rock hounding on the shore, then grabbed my book and read in the shade for a couple hours. It was very peaceful - no motor boats, no motorcycles flying by, nobody making a bunch of noise. We did visit the day before Labor Day in the middle of the day so it was super busy. There were a lot of kids running around too, but we had a mostly private and quiet spot. The water was nice and cool but didn't look the cleanest - my partner's dad said it was dirtier than he'd ever seen it. There is plenty of street side parking, all free. No park pass is needed to go to the lake! You do need to reserve a campsite in advance if you want to camp, so plan ahead, especially if you're visiting on a holiday weekend. There are a couple of bathrooms along the lake but I didn't visit them. I would expect them to be like normal forest bathrooms with no running water. There are a LOT of bears in the area (and in Durango in general, especially this year) so be cautious and bring bear spray. I loved my day at the lake and definitely want to return again!
