Inside, I was welcomed by what felt like a retro (70s/80s) trip back in time. There were four rows of small, aged Maytag washers and really old looking dryers lining the side walls. I put a $5 bill in the change machine and decided to get washing. The washers are relatively small, but for $1/load are reasonable. The wash was done in about 30 minutes with no issues. There are two different size dryers, commercial side and small/standard ones. You place quarters into an unmarked slot and I learned that each quarter gets you about 6 minutes worth of drying. Aside from the machines not always starting up, they eventually got working. Heat was high, so each load was done for $1.00 in approximately 25 minutes. This place got the job done, but was nothing fancy at all.

Do you ever feel "too good" to do something?…read more Well, I think I thought I was "beyond" laundromats. It turns out I'm not. In fact, a homeless woman recently taught me a couple of things. First, she kindly taught me to use one of the "big boy" washers. I could not figure out where everything went to start the soapy swirling. Second, she reminded me that kindness is not dependent on circumstances. She had something to teach me, and I had something to learn. Either one of us could have robbed me of that lesson--I'm glad she didn't, and I'm becoming wise enough to learn the first time around. I was there to wash some comforters that wouldn't fit in our home washer and dryers. Not knowing one laundromat from another, I picked Hollywood Coin Laundry in Norman, OK, and I could not have been more impressed. The staff were nice, helpful, and respectful to everyone who came through the doors. The place was CLEAN, the equipment was in good repair, and the clients were all pleasant and didn't mind me snapping photos of them. I have been back to Hollywood several times over the last month and have looked forward to my visit each time. Strange, huh? I wanted to see if the customer service was consistent. It was. Was the facility kept clean and tidy? It was. Did I feel welcomed and wanted as a customer? I did. There are a LOT of businesses that I frequent that I dread. I won't drop names, but many of the ones you are thinking about are the same ones I am thinking about. I wonder how much better their business would be if they were welcoming, kind, and respectful and taking care of business in a manner where their customers wanted to come back and do things that most people dread. Something to think about. Well done, Hollywood Cleaners and Coin Laundry. I'll be back with my Ziploc of quarters, my detergent and fabric softener (enough to share if anyone needs it), and a hug for my new laundromat friends.
