This is one of the worst doctors ive visited in all my 50 some odd years of life. Wait time in this office is ludicrous! No matter what time of day you come, 2-3 hour wait! The office staff is horrible and rude... at best! The place is packed with 20-30 smelly old people, and the waiting area opens right out to the elements, so every time the door opens, freezing wind blows in. Staff from his office and other offices in the building smoke right outside his door, so the smelly smoke also blows in. So just imagine the triple-threat of ice cold smoke filled air, mixing with the smelly old people B.O. Yuck! As for the doctor... very odd bedside manner. His attempts at humor, to defuse the frustration of waiting almost 3 hours, did not help at all! Only made me more angry. Apparently he thinks hes a funny wise guy. He's not! And worst off all, all the things he found, and burned off, on my decaying half-century body, have all grown back a few months later. The visit was a complete waste of time, and money. Dr. Laufer treated my grandfather's skin cancer and greatly prolonged his life. I had to go to the office with my grandfather on many occasions and got to know Dr. Laufer and his staff very well. Though sometimes you have to wait a few weeks for an appointment, once you get to the office there are usually no lines. The doctor will see you 5 to 10 minutes after you walk through the door. The doctor himself is very sweet, very attentive and knows how to make his patients feel comfortable and welcome. There is a radiation therapy office on the premises. The staff is very nice and professional, and the office is always clean and quiet. read more

Dr. Laufer is an exceptional and caring doctor. He has been treating my daughter for her psoriasis for the last 3 years. She is 14 and has anxiety. Dr. Laufer and his staff are so good with her. They are understanding and very helpful. Yes, the wait time can be extreme. But he is one of the very few dermatologists in the area (Cortlandt Manor office) so he is overwhelmed with patients. But he never rushes an appointment. We would wait for him as long as it took. read more

Love this doctor. I fly all the way from Florida to NYC just to see him. Dr laufer is extremely professional, and is one of the best dermatologists I have ever seen. I used to go to him when I was a kid, back when the office was on Ocean Avenue and I continue to do so and hope he never retires!! The staff at the office is also TOP notch, each and every one of them. Now the only draw back is the wait, but think about it- why is there such a long wait for this particular doctor? I saw Dr Laufer virtually as I was in panic mode and wanted a quick appointment. 2 hours later I had virtual appointment and doctor was kind, patient and most importantly, thorough. He recommended I go to office for procedure. I went next day and Jarrett was also kind, patient and again, most importantly thorough. All of the girls were very helpful. In these very stressful and unprecedented times I found the whole experience made me feel less stressed and I would definitely recommend to everyone. Such a great Dr! He spent enough time with me evaluating my skin. He prescribed me oral and topical treatments that within 3 days improved my allergic condition after a cosmetic procedure. I was afraid to get permanent discoloration, but Dr assured me that all he prescribed will help and prevent from hyperpigmentation. I had a follow up as well and was given free samples that should last me for 2 months. I decided not to go to Drs by my insurance who advertise all over, but to pay out of pocket to see Dr Laufer because he was strongly recommended as being knowledgeable and doing removal of moles as less obvious as possible and that I needed as well. I was ready to drive to this Dr from far and wait in the office as long as needed because I knew I'm in good hands! The wait was actually less than an hour both appts. Dr Laufer has a very gentle and cute personality. He's soft spoken but straight forwarded with his answers. I liked him thinking loud because I could figure out how and why he wanted to prescribe me the meds. He had qualified answers to any question without being annoyed. The front desk might seem too quick and loud, but it's just due to millions constant phone calls (I heard people calling with crazy questions and waisting their time). Once I explained my situation when I called 1st time and that I had an emergency and couldn't wait for a month or so for an appt, she accommodated me the next morning! The front desk lady and the 2 nurses I met are sweethearts and are super helpful and get very personal in order to help you. I can't thank them enough! read more

What an amazing doctor. He was so kind, warm, & gentle when I went in for a bit of an emergency. I called him a few days later because the issue I was having persisted, & as the receptionist promised, he called me back that evening & had a solution. I don't like writing bad reviews but this whole experience got me so upset. Being a new patient i came in 40 min before my actual appointment because i knew i had to fill out paperwork. My appointment time came and left. People who came after me were seen but i was still waiting to be called in. I asked receptionist what is going on and why i was not call in to see a doctor. Her response was that is how it is in our office, so i told her to cancel my appointment and i walked away (after waiting for 2 hrs). I have never seen anything like this. This place is conveniently nearby my house and Dr. Laufer is an intelligent sweet man that simply can cure anything! I know I only went there for cystic acne and nodular cystic acne on my back and chest but he prescribed a few things for me and made sure to make a follow up appointment to whichever day suited me. I don't mind the wait time for such an amazing dermatologist. He's very generous with samples which I'm very happy about. read more

Dr. Laupher is a very nice and charming doctor with really kind and gentle bedside manner and his PA is also really nice and kind. However the compliments end there. Besides the long wait which was already mentioned in several reviews, there is an issue with really rude and nasty office assistants. They openly discuss patients while you are waiting to pay in the back and they treat patients as garbage. Many people pass through that office on daily basis and the least that they can do is treat them with respect and professionalism especially after they waited 2.5 hours to see the doctor. read more

But his office front desk people are completely opposite. They are rude and unhelpful. Never care about any people needs. Waisted over an hour today without being seen by the doctor. Ok, I never write reviews, but I feel I have to on this one. We didn't get to see the Dr. for very long, because my son's condition is pretty simple and his treatment is cut and dry. The Dr is very nice, knowledgeable and caring. HOWEVER....BE PREPARED for the longest wait of your life. Our wait time was 2 1/2 hours. Apparently this is normal for this office, so it wasn't just this day. They must triple book, seriously. The staff was very sweet. No complaints on the staff, the Dr, the cleanliness, nothing, all was wonderful, but if you have an appointment, do not plan on doing anything else for hours. Don't try to "squeeze in" your appt, make sure you bring your phone and it's charged 100%. Some people sign in, leave, and come back in a few hours, it's just crazy. read more

There are those patients who leave after checking in and then will call to find out when it is their next turn or request that the receptionist call them when their turn is near. I took my uncle to fancy dermatologist's offices with fountains, free coffee and cookies. Nobody could help with his hand, which looked like he got horrible plague ulcers. Dr. Laufer treated this problem in two days! I don't know if I am being fair but it is taking one week for this doctor to get the results of a biopsy. Meanwhile I am plagued with itching and whatever is happening to my skin is spreading and very irritating. I have called the doctor several times to ask if the biopsy has arrived yet but nobody has returned the call or left a message. The secretary keeps saying he will call me back but he has not. I feel time is not on my side with this condition and I am not happy with the lack of response. I absolutely need some medical treatment now. As for the wait time for the biopsy I am not sure what is normal but in general it surprises me that it should take a week for something that affects my health so dramatically. read more

Well I had the worst experience my first visit....but I gave the office the benefit of the doubt I made a second appointment!!! Fool me once but never again! My first appointment was a wait over 2 hours. Dr. Laufer although tries to be charming about the long wait. It does not work.... This time I tried to get the first appointment in the morning. Great the line outside was spilling onto the street when dr. Laufer opened the door himself coming from the parking lot! Ok the receptionist WAS inside but kept us waiting. After signing in process was over the wait was almost an hour. Once called, dr. Attempts to be charming but then fails. Can we focus on the skin cancer treatment and biopsy the ones that were earmarked the last visit. I was noticeably upset and then proceeded to freeze one of the sites on my leg, freeze one on my arm. 1 2 3 seconds I pointed the ones out and he then attempted to leave the room......where are you going? I asked what kind of treatment for my face did you want to do? Oh yes! He said ...big mistake! He proceeds to put medicine on my face,lip,forehead then he leaves! A worker takes me into another room and puts eye goggles on me and lasers my face. She leaves. Hands me eurcin lotion sample size and then leaves!!! I'm done I asked? Yes. Ok no instruction of what to expect! Well after I got home my face was burning like it was on fire!!! I gave it the day and got worse! I stayed in the house for 3 days! I called the office. What a surprise! He is on vacation! Well I demanded something has to be done! I look like the terminator melting!! Ok she says ill call the doctor!!! Can I go somewhere else? He does not have coverage? No she said wait till he call you. Finally he calls which felt like forever!!!! Steroids was prescribed! I had an reaction to the treatment! Duh! Well maybe you should have tested a small part of my skin and NOT my whole dam face!!! I will NEVER go back! Skin cancer should not be treated this lightly. And running an office that is overbooked and crowded does not Give Good QUALITY Care! Shame on him! If you want quality care, I recommend anywhere else! read more

Few months ago I had an emergency, with half of my face swollen and in terrible pain I contacted Dr. Laufer's office. A secretary did mention that without an appointment it will be a long wait but advised me to come either way. I had no insurance at this point, everybody knows that a simple Doc visit could cost you a fortune when you're paying cash. I came prepared with a book and was pleasantly surprised that my wait turned out to be under an hour. Considering that waiting room was full of patients it was literally unbelievable how fast he was able to attend to each one. So finally I get to meet the Doc, and he is indeed charming and extremely pleasant man. He gives me a shot to ease my pain, prescribes antibiotics which he generously gave me samples off and this all costs me under hundred dollars. I mean.. incredible is an understatement, antibiotics alone would've cost me over hundred if I had to buy them in a pharmacy. He advised me to see him in a week for a follow up, which I did, a visit cost me nothing. This is an example of a very rare type of a Doctor, that treats you like a human being and genuinely cares about you and your individual needs/situation. read more

A terrific doctor, really worth waiting extra time to see him. He examined my kid very thorough and met all my expectation as a doctor. I also spoke with him over the phone to discuss some details. His assistants are very professional and nice ladies. Considering how office is busy with the patients I believe the office's receptionists are doing an excellent job. All my questions were answered over the phone. The office could schedule a first appointment within a reasonable time, so we could see him in three days. Scheduling follow -ups were also easy. Cursed by Dr's Stuff Sheepsheadbay location I have been seeing Dr. Laufer for a few weeks now. He has prescribed therapy for me that must be done in his office twice a week. Yesterday on 10/16/2012 I went and his office was full as usual. I told the nurse that I am for a therapy, which last 3-5 min total, how long is the wait because I need to pick up a child from day care. I was told that usually the wait for procedures is not long. As I was waiting a gentleman who was also waiting had to remind them that he is waiting for therapy and they forgot about him, he was called in. As time passed, no one called me. I went and asked for another appointment because, I needed to leave. The front desk told me that I will have to wait again if I come next time, to which I said that I did not have issues with wait time for therapy before. They told me that they cannot guarantee that I will get in for therapy during my next appointment because there will be a line and I cannot skip a line. I was trying to explain that I am not trying to skip a line; I am trying to get therapy and get better and that I was also told that the wait is not usually long for therapy. I also did say that I am not happy with their customer service skills and was told that if I want to complain I can speak to a manager who is not in today or a Dr. if I stay in line. I was also told that this is a way how Dr. and manager run the office. Among other things, I was told that there is someone else in a room doing therapy, to which I said yes and he was waiting for awhile to get in and then I was told that he was waiting for 15 and that he did not have to remind them that they forgot about him and then they proceeded denying that someone would ever tell me that the line will not be long. Basically I should go back and wait for therapy. So the concept that I cannot wait forever does not apply in that office. Then the nurse out of nowhere told me "Oh fuck you" and left and told another nurse "shut the door on her face." If I would not have to pick up my son from day care, I would have stayed in line and tell the dr. what happened. read more

Dr Laufer and his staff are professional, caring and the best skin care doctor I have ever had. His staff always greets me with a smile and I feel welcome. I was advised that the wait may be long, but I chose to wait since he has been the only dermatologist who took the time and care to heal my dermatological problems. First off, Dr. Laufer seems like a very knowledgeable and attentive physician, however, the office visits are extremely lengthy and very unpleasant. I have struggled through four appointments and I will not go back. The office is always overbooked and the wait is at least two hours no matter when you show up. The staff is kind of rude. The office is quite old and kind of dirty. It looks and feels like a free clinic. The examination rooms look unsanitary and full of old rusty equipment. You are forced to pay the co-payment prior to seeing the doctor and there are money related signs all over the office, so you feel more like a customer than a patient. read more
