The Minneapolis Community Ed. program is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) program in the…read morecountry. They've had 40 years to work the kinks out, and it shows. The huge catalog has brief descriptions of the classes and you can find out about the teachers online. Like Jillian C. says, they have everything: sushi rolling demonstrations, ashtanga yoga, money-management, kids programs, watercolor painting and Facebook lessons (Dad would benefit). Years of school have conditioned me into thinking that September is the start of the year, even now, quite a few years after graduation. Point is, I make my "resolutions" in September. Last year I resolved to learn to play the guitar and speak French. I did both for less than $100 with Community Ed.! [cue infomercial] I highly recommend Beginning Guitar with Chris. For less than $40, I had ten practically one-one-one lessons with a great teacher. He even gave us an extra week! When the class was over, I was able to keep practicing using his packet and handouts fairly easily. I wouldn't say my French 1 class was as impressive because the teacher didn't get too creative. I didn't get a lot out of doing flashcards over and over and over again.

Some classes are 8 weeks long, some are three hours in one evening. Take your pick! There truly is something for everyone. I've taken beginner Pilates and French 1 and can only say that I have been very, very pleasantly surprised. 8 weeks of French for less than $70 - &)#%!?!? (Oh, and 8 weeks of Pilates for $35, in case you were curious). I was worried that I would be getting what I paid for but was sorely mistaken. If you can deal with taking notes and not having a text book (who cracks them anyway?) the quality of the class so much more than makes up for the lack of supplies and materials. The instructors are fantastic and the class sizes small. To think I considered spending $400 on a French class somewhere else... Pilates is fantastic as well, and I've only heard good things about other yoga or dance classes. The spring catalogue is online now!

One of the things that you have to cover in the leadership class is talking about the union. This should not be something that is talked about until you are in the bachelor's program. And don't even get me started on the bonus points that they offer. These are nothing. These only help you if you are already passing the class. I had a friend have to retake a whole semester due to one point! I refused to have these points applied to my final grade. This is how the school makes the student's grades look better, thus making the school look better. As I have said in the beginning, look elsewhere.

She has super fun energy, is intensely creative and inspired, and - like any good mom and small business owner - rolls with the punches like nobody's business. The selection of projects PIP offers is great - from smaller accent/decor pieces to larger furniture and yard items - meaning they have the right project for any audience. And the whole concept is brilliant! They do the hard part of ideating, planning, measuring, cutting, prepping, and cleanup. You just show up to use some fun power tools and walk out with a stunning custom addition to your home or yard!! And as an activity, this is as multi-functional as it gets. Girl's night out? Yes. Self care solo adventure? Totally. Date night? Already scheduled (we'll be making clocks!). Next time I need to plan a team building experience for work? Donezo. You can also hire them to do private workshops, and they've recently expanded their offerings to include an on-site option where they come to you. Brilliant. He was very astute at reading people's reactions if they looked confused or seemed to have a question. He would stop and make sure they understood before proceeding. He used easy to understand examples so you could comprehend via a real world scenario. The facility was conducive to learning and had a restaurant on the main floor for convenience.

Due to that, even after a successful first semester, I've officially been dismissed as a student. When I arrived for a class that was not in the class room that was published in their brochure (listed on internet that day as a class being taught that night), the information desk was covered by a high school look alike who appeared 35 minutes after the class was to begin back to his post with beverage and food in hand. No need to have actual staff to assist ...he could not find any information and didn't seem to have any more competence than those answering the phones. Others in the building that work there gave free dumb looks with questions about how to receive assistance. This is a wonderful place to find a job with no accountability or expectations but a pathetic place to attempt taking a class listed in the brochure. Classes can be registered online...perhaps this was originally to be the SELF-SERVICE car wash that became community education. As this isn't run by sentient beings it doesn't really work ( I think I found the supply house for ZOMBIES).
