Expect 5+ star service at this 3.5 star hotel AND EXCELLENT wi-fi. I cannot praise the staff at Jurys Inn enough. From the breakfast staff who worked the amazing full (and then some) breakfasts to the housekeeping staff - (especially Debbie) who kept us in earl grey tea, biscuits and fresh towels to the front desk (especially Chris and Hannah - both A++++) who arranged everything from hair appointments to calling around to verify hours during the holiday season to securing numerous taxi rides with a service that took American Express) to those who brought us HUGE buckets of ice whenever we asked for ice at night - the service here was exemplary. We ordered room service one night for a late dinner (a salmon dish and a pasta dish). They were both delicious!!!
The rooms are very clean and have all the necessities (toiletries, hairdryer, a closet with hangers, some drawers, a tea/coffee set up, a television w/ a VERY limited channel selection and black out curtains). The WI-FI WAS EXCELLENT! The lighting was particularly good in our room with many configuration options. There was a rather good outlet selection - especially for an older building - to plug in phones and other electronics. We had options on one side of the bed and across the room (none in the bathroom except for a shaver). The bathroom also had some shelves to put our toiletries and personals on - which we appreciated (it is sadly becoming less common).
We were very happy we ordered a large room (the site said the room was over 330 ft²) with a king bed and bathtub/shower combo (caution here as you have to be fully IN the shower to turn it on since the glass doesn't move). We looked at another room briefly because our bed was uncomfortable (we slept through the night anyway), but stayed with our first choice.
The rooms are basic and can be very small (especially if you're used to American hotels) but had everything we needed. The other room we looked at was maybe 200 ft.² It was too cramped for the 2 of us with our luggage and had only a shower. It would have been suitable enough though, if we were not on such a long trip (with 2 large and 2 small cases) or if we did not spend much time in the room. The beds were the same in both rooms.
I believe the common areas have been refurbished in this newly taken over property as they were bright and in great condition. Initially, we were a little let down by the room itself (and bed) compared to the rest of the hotel. However, the service really made the place and our initial concerns were washed away quickly.
The location in the city center is perfect. The design of the windows was also good enough to block out the considerable street noise on the high floor. When we closed them, we didn't hear a thing - even though we were in a front facing room. On a lower floor and possibly if it were not storming - the noise on the street side might be an issue if you're sound sensitive.
Another note on the 5 star service. Ordinarily, you might expect some staff members to be terrific and others to be just so-so. However here, you can tell they are really looking for and providing a top quality service experience on all levels at the Jurys Inn.
We would definitely stay again. read more
