Leon is now a substantial chain around London. It's quality, healthy fast-food. No burgers or subs here: expect sweet potato cakes, falafel, whole-grain rice, tasty soups, and salads. It's fresh ingredients, made all the time and served up fast in small cardboard containers. The interior is fun, colourful and funky. This location, right at the top of Carnaby Street, is great for for an after-shopping boost. read more

I've never been here before. I say that because I'm astonished I haven't been dragged by a friend before. Because it's amazing. Offering real fresh eastern-influenced food served in card boxes and amazing ginger and lemon juices, this is 'food for thought' with a difference. When I went in last week they had a real meal deal, morrocan meatballs with rice and homemade 'slaw', hummus and flatbread, and a freshly squeezed juice, all for £6.85. I'm saddened to say that the standards of Leon really have really gone downhill - I've just had the chilli chicken hot box - what a waste of money! I wouldn't call what was in the box chicken in fact most of it was fat and gristle:( Too much mayonnaise on the coleslaw and the mayonnaise tastes like a cheap and nasty brand. The brownie which used to be one of my favourite things is not as chocolatey and rich as before. remember the start of summer? that first heat wave we had that felt like the tropics with the moisture just waiting to break into a storm, which of course it did? my friend and i were starving and couldnt think about eating anything hot, so we went to Leons to get Salads. granted they tasted amazing. however for the price - so not worth it. we were practically licking the boxes and finally left - still starving. we walked around for 20 min, waiting for the food to hit us. finally we said to hell with this and just went to pret to get some real food. i dunno. tasty, but just not enough. will think twice about going again. sure i could have just gotten two salads, but 14 pounds for a salad lunch from a "decent but not spectacular" food joint? no thanks. read more

OK, I admit Leon is a great concept (health, sustainability, free-range - all that good stuff) and I'm thrilled it's taken off the way it has and when I lived around the corner, I used to grab dinner there at least a few nights a week. You can be extremely virtuous here - ie the Superfood Salad, oil on the side - or more decadent - ie the meatballs with aioli; the dark chocolate brownie ("Better Brownie" does not = low-calorie), and they change the menu slightly based on the season. My complaint is that Leon seems to have lost care and consistency (and perhaps has grown a bit lazy?) with its popularity. The first Grilled Chicken Superfood Salads I remember having (when Leon was just a newborn) were perfect - lots of chicken and heaps of tomato, peas, seeds, quinoa etc. More recently, I've gotten more than several salads that have just a few burnt, dark pieces of meat and/or are usually missing at least 2 of the ingredients (and I don't count one mini piece of browned broccoli as a present ingredient). Other items are hit-or-miss... with the exception of the sweet potato falafel which I have always found to be yummy. I would also really like for Leon to upgrade their bread. I know it's meant to be healthy, but it tastes like nothing - or perhaps like the similarly coloured paper boxes the food comes in...? read more

I'm a big fan, and I'm surprised to be since it's very much "fast food"! The salads were fresh and pretty good - I got a club salad. Definitely ask for the dressing on the side if you tend to not like too much of it. I also got the lime-ade (be warned, it's VERY lime and very concentrated). read more

Tried this place 2x because I thought the menu was really eclectic and I was looking to spice up the normal lunch routine. Disappointed both times sad to say. The portions were small and the food was just barely warm. I heard someone in line say they really love the sweet potato dish but it had ingredients I don't eat. Maybe I'm too picky? I guess you could call this the 'healthy fast food.' It comes out very quick, on a tray, in a box and you take it away and eat it. While the menu is great and flavours are good it does have that fast food feel to it - things that are supposed to be hot...aren't quite there, and there isn't that same sense of freshness.... Not bad though, i'm sure i'll be eating there a lot more in the future, just won't go calling it my favourite! read more

This place is a chain of healthy organic style food. The décor is quite quirky and certainly very original. The take away food comes in recycled brown boxes and the whole place does have a very green feel to it. I think the fact that it is now a chain kills it slightly but it is nonetheless a good place to grab a tasty bit to eat. I've only ever tried the veggie wrap once, which was not the best thing I've had but I have heard many good reports from several friends of mine who have been more than once. read more

Food at Leon is very healthy but also very tasty, you can get nice rice and chicken dishes as well as some nice salads which can be quite spicy if you ask for the right sauce. I would say that the food combines that what is similar to nandos peri peri style, its definitely worth a visit. read more

For a while there I thought Leon was going the way of horrible chain food outlets like Cafe Rouge, and the others you find littering the streets of any tourist zone. However, they seem to have pulled their socks up of late, and returned to what they do best - wholesome, tasty food - fast and (fairly) resonably priced. Great vegetarian selection, and good breakfasts too (Yoghurt with Granola and Compote). Avoid the coffee, and stick to the herbal teas and milkshakes. They do a mean cranberry flapjack too. read more

We ate at Leons on Shaftsbury, across from the Queens Theatre and the food ranged from "gross" to "just not good." Not only that, but the single toilet was out of order! How can you run a loud, busy restaurant without even a sink or toilet? I would never go back to a Leon. read more

Humans are strange things eh? I've patronised Leon so much now that I'm almost bored of the place. 'Oh great, a healthy, affordable, inventive, seasonal way of eating out without the fuss associated with most sit-down restaurants.' Leon is fun, colourful and the staff are helpful. I especially liked getting an email from Leon last year inviting me to a free tasting of their new autumn menu in their Strand outlet, beers included. Either me or someone I'm with (on my recommendation) almost always gets the sweet potato falafel when we visit. The same goes for the homemade lemonade and the apple and ginger-flavoured 'winter warmer'. So why on earth do I never go here anymore? If I can guess, it's something to do with the predictability of the place. The decor tries to be quirky but ends up looking virtually the same in every restaurant. And I struggle to name any other dish apart from the falafel, the chicken wings and the chicken salad... I would feel ridiculous giving Leon anything other than four stars, just make sure you don't visit here too much! read more
