Dr. Lipson is one of the best doctors I had to deal with. He knows what he is doing. Anette handles the front desk and is very helpful.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Dr. Jennifer Alyono was so unsatisfactory…read morethat I feel compelled to share it. I saw her in May of 2025, referred by another ENT who failed to properly diagnose my 20% eardrum perforation. Before Dr. Alyono even walked into the room, my appointment had already begun on the wrong foot. Her fellow (I assume a student) was attempting to examine my ear and ended up cutting the inside of my ear canal during a cleaning (I have had my ear canal cleaned at least 6 times in the last 6 months and no one ever did this). I saw the cut clearly through the camera, and it was bleeding pretty badly. The fellow barely acknowledged the mistake and meekly apologized. This was not only uncomfortable but unsettling, especially considering how sensitive I already was to damage in this ear. To make matters worse, he made offhand comments about the possibility of surgery, telling me "it may not even work" without any knowledge at that point of what the hole in my eardrum looked like. It felt like an unnecessary and discouraging comment before I even got a chance to speak with Dr. Alyono. When Dr. Alyono finally came in, she did a quick examination and offered me two options: 1) do nothing and live with the hole in my ear, dealing with potential infections and earplugs for every shower, or 2) undergo a tympanoplasty that "would just plug the hole, that's it." She told me not to expect any improvements to my hearing or quality of life, which left me feeling completely hopeless. The way she presented my situation was not only matter-of-fact but also incredibly dismissive--almost as if she had already written off the possibility of me finding a solution. When I asked her to tell me about the surgery, she started the explanation by listing off all the potential risks (many of which I later found were unlikely), and added that my ear post-surgery would stick out to the point where I'd notice it--"but the average person in the grocery store probably wouldn't." This flippant remark only added to the frustration of what felt like a very cold and detached consultation (I later read of how rare this also is??). I left spiraling, feeling as though I was being told that this random injury would define my life moving forward with no hope for improvement. The follow-up Zoom appointment I had a week later only confirmed how little care and professionalism Dr. Alyono exhibits. She was 50 minutes late to the hour-long appointment, which, while unfortunately common among doctors, was made worse by the fact that she didn't even acknowledge the delay when she finally joined. Already, the second appointment was off to a bad start. By this time, I had done my own research and even consulted with other surgeons, all of whom were surprised when I mentioned Dr. Alyono's dismissiveness regarding the potential for surgery to improve my hearing or symptoms. I also presented Dr. Alyono with the research I had found, including a newer endoscopic approach to tympanoplasty being used by a handful of surgeons in the U.S., and international regenerative treatments that are showing promise in clinical trials. She didn't engage with the research at all and had no response to the endoscopic approach. When I mentioned regenerative treatments, she outright dismissed them, claiming they "do not work," despite there being substantial evidence suggesting otherwise. She had no idea what I was referring to when I mentioned specific studies or other surgeons using these methods. Her closed-mindedness and refusal to even consider alternatives left me feeling like she had already made up her mind that there was nothing to be done. It's not just the lack of empathy that bothered me, but the overall lack of engagement and detailed care I expected from an experienced ENT specialist at Stanford. Dr. Alyono's approach left me feeling like a case number rather than a person seeking help. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I cannot recommend Dr. Alyono to others. I truly hope she takes this feedback to heart and works on improving her patient interactions. If you're looking for someone who will actually listen, engage with you, and offer a thorough, compassionate treatment plan, I suggest looking elsewhere. I ended up getting a second opinion from an incredible doctor at UCI (Dr. Djalilian) and the appointment with him was literally night and day. He fully recommended endoscopic surgery, confident that many of my symptoms would go away or improve, and that I would get back at least most of my hearing. A third opinion from a renowned doctor in Boston also confirmed this treatment plan and he too was amazed and disheartened by my experience with Dr. Alyono.

This is the hands down absolute BEST surgical consult I've ever had. Amazing experience, which I…read morenever thought was in my destiny to say. Dr. Alyono offered a balanced and unbiased perspective about whether I should get stapes surgery for my otosclerosis. The first thing, rare amongst surgeons, is she took the time to listen attentively and sift through my concerns. I didn't feel rushed--far from it--she waded into as many weeds as I needed to go, and because I have other intersecting issues, the risk of surgery for me increases, which she readily acknowledged. She was very helpful and informative, going beyond her expertise, and also referring me to another Stanford specialist for otoneurology, which I did not know was a thing until she told me about it. I'm heartened that surgeons such as this exist--not only super smart and skilled, but with compassionate ethos and listening excellent skills to spare.

What stood out most was his deep clinical expertise, judgment, and quiet confidence. He is meticulous in his evaluation and very clear and honest about tradeoffs, expectations, and the role of patient-specific anatomy. The procedure required real commitment, but Dr. Li and his team provided thorough, attentive follow-up care throughout the full 18-month expansion process. I have just completed the procedure and have experienced a significant reduction in my CPAP pressure settings, along with a meaningful improvement in sleep quality. Even while using CPAP previously, I rarely slept more than seven hours a night; I can now sleep a full eight hours and feel genuinely rested. I also notice clearer, freer breathing during the day. Dr. Li is widely regarded as a leading expert in this procedure, and my experience reflects that level of mastery and care.

I recently was treated by Dr. Kasey Li at Stanford and had a truly life-changing experience. Prior…read moreto visiting Dr. Li, I had undergone an MMA surgery with another Stanford surgeon with a very minimal 3 mm jaw advancement, and because of this, my AHI remained the same one year after surgery as it was before surgery -- in other words, the surgery did not improve my sleep apnea at all. However, Dr. Li was able to help me by performing his EASE procedure, which not only helped me sleep better, but also prevented me from needing another revision MMA surgery to advance me the clinically recommended 10+ mm (instead of just a paltry 3 mm). During my EASE operation, Dr. Li even removed some of the MMA hardware from the previous surgery because it was "festering." Compared to MMA, EASE was much less invasive (I was back at work in less than a week), and after several months of gradual expansion with Dr. Li, he had gotten me off CPAP completely, allowing me to sleep much better without having to wear an uncomfortable mask forcing air into my nose every night. This was a tremendous outcome! I was surprised at how much more helpful EASE was for my sleep apnea than my initial MMA, given the latter required a month off work on a full-liquid diet. Treating sleep apnea is a mine field. I researched the alternatives to EASE heavily, and every other option was significantly more invasive and risky (any maxillary expansion procedure involving a LeFort cut is going to be rough and risk complications). There's also quite a few completely unproven / ineffective treatments that do not help sleep apnea at all that you have to be prudent to avoid. And as I found out the hard way, even at name-brand institutions, the surgeons there may not advance your jaw enough to help your sleep apnea. Dr. Kasey Li is truly the best in the world and will take excellent care of you. I am forever grateful for his help and expertise.

I agree with the other positive reviews about his bedside manner and proactive-ness. He said the ENTs at PAMF should have given me a reason for wanting to remove my ear tubes in 3 instead of 2 years (despite a perforation that required at tympanoplasty 2 years after my first set of tubes) other than "that's what we always tell people". Even better, he said I can leave the tubes in for as long as I want if they are not causing problems. I love a doctor who has the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude as I don't want to undergo unnecessary surgeries/procedures. Given that both he had Dr. Janas have treated multiple ear infections during the few months I saw them and the CT I had earlier this month showed mastoid fluid in both ears, it's possible I may need them removed in the future and he agreed that they would need to come out if infections persist. It's hard to find a doctor - especially an ENT - who both doesn't push unnecessary procedures/surgeries and isn't afraid to consider that route if the problem persists. Finally, I love that he gave honest recommendations for ENTs in/near Walnut Creek when I gave him some names of ENTs in network with my secondary insurance that MM doesn't accept (and I'm losing the primary they accept next week due to a new job). I told him what I want in a new ENT and appreciated that he didn't hesitate to steer me away from doctors who either had poor reviews or were sub specialists for issues that I don't need treatment. Several of the ENTs who have thrown their hands up over the years were sub-specialists (the 2 main offenders were a laryngologist and facial plastics) so Dr. Yun definitely understood why I wanted a general ENT. Some of the past recommendations I've received over the years - including an ENT I know personally who didn't even treat me as a pt - were biased and didn't take into consideration the qualities I want in a doc. Hopefully his recommendations will prove true when the time comes!
