Bought a used car. Sales rep said everything at the dealership had to be paid for in cash. I asked if I could get a cashier's check. No, they do not accept them. They made me go to the bank and come back with nearly $8 K in cash for the used car. I asked the banker if this was the way that Lenzen did business. The banker said she hadn't heard that, but maybe it's because I was from out of town that they said I had to. Or because I'm an elderly woman. Banker kindly explained to me, as if I were a child, that some people write fraudulent checks or have invalid credit cards. I took the cash back to the sales rep and mentioned that I grew up in a big city, and where was she from? It's dangerous to have that much cash with you for even a short time. read more

Drove my 2020 2500HD to the shop. having fuel issues. Was told the fuel pump was bad. We had it tested at a friends shop 3 days earlier and was told it was fine your service tech insisted that was the problem. Paid $860.16. Went to pick it up and it wont even drive out of the parking lot!!! Now there charging another $500 to fix a broken wire. Asked for the old fuel pump back and was told I could dig through the dumpster to get it. read more

Under disclosures the copy reads "dealer fees (unless itemized above) are extra." When you enquire as to what these "dealer fees" are or add up to you will get no answer. I wonder why that would be? One has to assume that these "dealer fees" are bogus and sprung on the customer in the business office as part of the purchase transaction. This is the mark of a dealer who is not to be trusted. There are several dealers in the immediate area ----- why bother with this one? Our sales person, Alex, was fine. No complaints. We were ready to purchase the vehicle on Memorial Day, but they couldn't process the paperwork because they weren't staffed for it. He offered to come in the next day, but it was his day off. We were not in a hurry so we agreed that we could wait a couple days. We paid cash for the vehicle from their used lot. I negotiated the price a little bit, but it was clear that they were not going to budge much. I didn't want to get into the back and forth where the sales person has to go to the manager and then come back and tell me why I am getting such a great deal. I compare my experiences at other dealers to Luther. I have purchased multiple vehicles from Luther at different locations (Hyundai and VW). I am always impressed with their service and approach. I would not put Lenzen into the same class as Luther. They tried to sell us on extended warranties and service at a cost that was over 30% of the price we paid for the vehicle. Why bother? They did not fill the gas tank, which was getting close to empty. The first thing we had to do after picking up the vehicle was fill it up. I guess I just expect a better experience from a dealer whether I am buying a new or used vehicle. read more

After many many years of vehicle purchases, service work, body work, and parts orders, I am 100% done with anything to do with Lenzen Chev. I called the body shop for a quote to have some minor paint work done. The person I spoke with didn't know a price, so he said he'd check with the body shop manager and call me back. I received a phone call 5 minutes later from the same employee, telling me that the manager didn't want "to hassle with it". When your customers business has become a hassle for you, you are no longer the hometown dealership. Sad, used to be a great place. read more

I had been going to Lenzen for all my regular oil changes and the very few service issues I may have had since 2013 for my Chevy Cruze. While they may have been a little more expensive than other dealers but I was satisfied with them. I recently bought new tires and had an engine coolant & transmission flush. A couple days after the engine coolant flush, I noticed some leakage on my garage floor and brought the car back to Lenzen to see if they could find a leak. They could not and sent me on my way. Several days later, my car began to overheat and I pulled over onto a frontage road and parked. While stopped, I was rear ended. Luckily there was very little damage. I called to explain what had happened and that there was in fact a leak and this has now caused my car to overheat and caused a minor accident. They have not taken any responsibility for the leak and continue to blame it on the fact the car has 144,000 miles on it and was made in 2012. After paying $748 to fix the leak that may or may not have been caused by them, I brought my vehicle home. That same night, I realized that there was oil leaking onto my garage floor. I brought the car back the next morning and had them check it out. I received a phone call stating that they were not at fault for this new leak either and it would cost $140 to fix it. Each time I have brought my vehicle into them to fix something, I leave with some sort of issue and am having to shell out more money. If you want to learn how to treat your customers poorly, this is the place for you. I will never be going back to this business and will warn others to avoid at all costs. read more

I bought a 2011 chevy tahoe from lenzen chevy on 10/25 for $14,995. I noticed the next morning that something was leaking from the front end. Drove for 1 week without heat before taking into a local repair shop to find out the radiator and thermostat needed to be replaced to the tune of $720.00. I then emailed Lenzens to ask what could be done about this. Finally got a response one week later from Jeff stating that John would be contacting me to discuss this. This game went on for the next three weeks. I would email or stop in to see what was happening and was consistently told John would be contacting me about this issue. Finally 5 weeks after purchasing this vehicle John called me. He told me that the price was under blue book value which I was well aware of. He did not mention they gave me $2500 under blue book value for my trade in. He also stated that the vehicle had no warranty which I was also aware of. He let me know that all the parts needed for the repair he could have gotten cheaper but failed to add on his upcharge on these. I am aware that within one year I will need to replace tires. I also realize this vehicle is terrible on gas but as long as I know before buying I have no problem with it. John then stated that he cannot be held responsible for every vehicle that leaves his lot and then he asked me what I expected. I then hung up on him because this was the dumbest question I have ever been asked. I expect when buying a $15,000 vehicle not to have to put $720 into it immediately. I expect a dealership to stand behind their customers and not ignore them for over 1 month. I expect them to just do the right thing. Since then I have received a check for $168 which is a slap in the face. I will never be back to this dealership. A family member was looking to purchase a vehicle from them but is now looking elsewhere, hope it was worth it. I hope others read this and stay clear of them. One more thing - you should explain to the female sales rep that not everyone likes being called hon every other sentence, this could be misunderstood as sexual harassment. Enjoy your Christmas. Tim Gulden was my salesman and I also had the pleasure of dealing with Jan Hendrickson and Jeff Lenzen, who is one of the owners. Every one of them was great. They made me feel like family, and treated my family with respect and generosity. They were more than willing to help facilitate some unique/out of the ordinary requests in regards to facilitating the sale. I WILL definitely buy another vehicle from Lenzen Chev in The future! I am from St. Paul and I have been looking for a vehicle for over a month now. I have been very diligent about researching vehicles and having every vehicle I would like to purchase inspected by my own mechanic. The inspection has saved me from vehicles and I believe firmly in my process. I went to Lenzen for a vehicle I saw online and I worked with Jan. She was extremely understanding, very helpful and I would love to buy a car from her. However, company policy apparently dictates that they will not allow anyone to take a vehicle to a third party, nor will they allow a third party to come and inspect one of their cars on site. As I live in St. Paul, I understand it is a drive but I was more than willing to put a deposit on the car, sign an agreement of some sort or be flexible in some way. When Jan ran this by the owner, John Lenzen, he said that is not company policy. I then proceeded to go in and speak with him myself and when I left I was a very aggravated potential customer. There were a number of things that John said that left me perturbed. He started with explaining to me that they are required to list a vehicle with a price when they get it in, even before it goes through their shop. The vehicle I had looked at, after the shop saw it, they wanted to list $1,000 higher than the original listing price. However, when I asked him about another vehicle, he said they haven't priced it yet because it had not yet been through the shop. Perhaps the standards for the vehicles are different and one is required to post a price immediately while the other is not? I am not sure but it was a red flag. The other thing John said that really got me was that if I don't purchase the car, they could sell it for more than my agreed price. Now, their policy is I can put a $100 deposit on the vehicle with an offer and after it goes through the shop I get first dibs if they can feasibly sell the car for that price. So they could feasibly let this particular vehicle go for my price otherwise. The main point that I got from John was, I don't care if you want it, your sale isn't important because I can get more from someone else. I told him my price range may not be a lot for some people but it is to me; he did not respect that in any way. When I asked if I could have the service records for the vehicle, he basically gave me a report of all the work that was done under warranty; warranty work is not very helpful as I want to know how the car has been maintained and what has happened beyond its warranty. He was very wishy-washy when I asked about the service records (the car had been serviced there over the years) and I ultimately did not get them. Finally, when I left, I wanted a day to think it over and talk it over with my mechanic. He said because we don't have a deal, he would not hold the vehicle with my $100 deposit anymore. They credited my $100 back and he said I can call him if I change my mind. What I heard over and over again from John is that they are a reputable company, they run a solid business. What I explained to him is that I don't know them and their dealership was not recommended to me by anyone so all I have to go on is the word of the employees. My conversation with John Lenzen did absolutely nothing to back up his claim that they are a "reputable dealership" in my mind. Because I don't have the money other people have to spend on a vehicle, my sale was not important and he really did not want to have anything to do with me. If you have the money, they are probably fine but he is far too rigid in his policies and not willing to entertain any form of a negotiation. read more

Do not appreciate having charges slipped into the numbers for undercoating without discussing it. Especially when the undercoating I was charged for wasn't even done to the vehicle. Very deceptive. If you do business be sure to bring a calculator and check the actual numbers and not what they tell you. It isn't really the dollar amount as much as it is the principle. I don't like being lied to/cheated. Not the first time this dealer has tried to cheat us. Won't go back. And will tell everyone we know what happened. Very disappointed. Years ago we bought a vehicle and they switched out the upgraded wheels and tried to cheat us when my husband picked it up. If I would have known that I wouldn't have bothered going there at all, even if it was the preferred vehicle. read more

The parts department quickly replaced battery in the remote for my car door. Very fast, polite and efficient.

I called to see if this dealership was willing to match the price of another dealership because I wanted to keep my business more local, and all I got was a condescending attitude. I talked to Dan in sales and told him what I was looking at, or tried to at least as he kept interrupting me as I was talking. He then asked if the car was the one for a certain amount, but it was different than the price it said online. When I asked him about that, he was very rude and told me that it was the MSRP of the car he was talking about, and that "I'm just making sure we're talking apples for apples". What does that even mean!? At that point I was fed up with the attitude and told him that I would just be going to the other dealership. I guess they must not have been very interested in my business. read more

We took our car to the auto body shop after an accident. The staff is less than friendly. They tried to give me a rental car that the insurance company was paying for that had stains on the seats and the steering wheel was sticky. They didn't fix our car as we are still having problems with the electrical systems. I would never recommend Lenzen Chevrolet-Buick to anyone for anything. read more

WOW...thought the "bait and switch" days were over!!!! Guess not...buyer beware

This dealer charges a $35.08 "anti freeze adjustment" fee as part of the titling/delivery process. This is a new twist on the old "extra dealer profit" scam. They claim it is necessary to ensure that the vehicles they sell are good for -35 temperatures. Now, think about that for a moment --- the manufacturer pays the dealer to prep a vehicle for delivery. Is not checking fluids part of dealer prep? And, do you think someone really performs this check on a factory fresh vehicle? Or, that it would cost that much to do so? Have you ever even heard of a dealer charging such a fee? This is clearly bogus profit padding by an arguably dishonest and unethical dealer. On top of that, they claim that the fee is paid to the state when it is, of course, merely pocketed. You might want to check with the Consumer Affairs Division of the State Attorney General as to the legality of this fee. And, you should certainly refuse to pay it. read more
