A visit to Advanced Eye Center goes beyond a check of your prescription; they take into consideration the complete health of the eye. It seems like each time I go they have a new piece of equipment to screen for some new aspect of eye health. I was referred over to this office by my optometrist. When they called me to schedule an appointment, I asked them to hold while I opened up my Microsoft Outlook calendar to make sure I would be in town. As I confirmed the date I made an entry into my calendar. As with any appt I received a call to remind me of the appointment. Working out of town I sent the call to VM knowing it was a reminder of the upcoming appt. A few days later while clearing out my VM's I came across the reminder message for Dr. Swan and was shocked when the receptionist leaving the VM had a different date than me for my appt. I quickly called to let the office know my appt was not until the following Monday. The office manager informed me I clearly made a mistake and my appt was in fact that day and if I wanted to reschedule I could, but, I'd have to pay a $50 fee, followed up with a boldly comment of, "will you be putting this charge on a credit card?" Completely shocked I told her I did not owe their office any fees as I wasn't yet a patient nor did I sign any forms acknowledging their office policies. I followed up by saying, " if you won't allow me to keep my date then I guess I'll be forced to find another doctor." Detecting strong attitude, I decided to hang up. Within a minutes another lady called me back asking if I would like to reschedule, I responded with absolutely, but I'm not paying a fee for the date discrepancy because I strongly feel the scheduling agent was at fault. I could hear the original lady I had previously spoken with whispering in the background telling this lady what to say. This was beyond tacky, really unprofessional, especially for a medical provider of this caliber. Today my wife informed me I received a bill in the mail for 50$? I'm blown away by the tenacity and arrogance. I've decided that if this is turned over to a collection agency, I'm not dealing with this office staff, I will hand this over to my attorney, at this point these actions push the envelope on both extortion and harassment. Tomorrow I will call my optometrist to inform them of what Dr. Swans office staff is capable of. I could be wrong but I can't help to believe that If Dr. Swan knew his staff acted in this manner he would approve. Mark C.
