See, 2009 was a little tricky when it comes to my taxes. 2008 was pretty tough too, but somehow I managed. When it came time to file my 2009 returns, I got discouraged. I was still paying off what I owed from 08, and it was the first time I ever had to pay. After I ran some preliminary numbers, and got some advice from H&R Block, I realized I was going to owe a lot of money again. H&R Block basically told me that it would be easier to do it myself, because they were going to charge me $400 or something ridiculous. So, I just put all the papers in a nice pile on my desk, and left them there. Time went by and all of a sudden it was time to file my 2010 returns. I knew I couldn't let this go on, so I reached out to my friends on Facebook. I pleaded for a reliable tax preparer that wouldn't make me sell my soul to prepare my taxes. I got a response from a friend almost immediately. She referred me to Mark. After a couple weeks hesitation, I finally reached out to him. He was courteous and professional from the start. He offered to come and meet me at my office to go over what I had so he could take a first glance and see where we were at. After we met, I had an email with some preliminary info from him within the week. He required some additional information from me, which I gathered and provided. We had our first meeting exactly 4 weeks ago. Even right smack in the middle of tax season, he was able to navigate through my messes, and get all the 2009 paperwork in order and in my hands to sign within a month of our first meeting. My packet came yesterday with every signature line clearly marked, inside of pre-addressed, postage paid envelopes. THANK YOU! That makes my life so much easier. This isn't my first time filing taxes, but it is my first time having someone else do it. And when someone else does it, it's easy to get confused with what is what. So I'm glad he made it simple. I'm impressed with the quick turnaround time. Some might think that's a long time, but I don't. I'm obviously not his only client, ane the turnaround time for me was just fine. 2010 will be much easier and we'll get that sorted out here in the next couple weeks. I'm so grateful for social networking sometimes, because without it, I might not have found Mark! Even if you can do the taxes yourself, give Mark a call. He takes all the hassle out of it, and all you really have to do is sign on the dotted line. My other appreciation, is that we did not discuss his fee until he was completely done with my 2009 taxes. That tells me that he cares more about getting the paperwork filed and the IRS satisfied than he does about getting paid. Of course that's always important, but his priority is in satisfying the customer. And to me, that is 5 star worthy!
