Hit or miss this visit. Party of four on a Thursday, so maybe that was part of the issue. Went in specifically because the advertised special was Beef Wellington. Waiter was odd.. he seemed like he was either high or very very new. I had to ask if we could order drinks.. we got apps and bread (delicious) and were told they were out of Wellington... it's still on the specials board, and the place was pretty empty? Disappointing, but ok. Orders were pasta, steak, fish and chicken. All were good, except the steak, and that's on me.. other reviews say order a full temp above what you normally like. Went back to an old friend to celebrate a graduation. We were fans of the original Lelli's on Woodward and Bethune. My wife had a Sherry Manhattan there on her 21st. birthday and we are now celebrating our 58 wedding anniversary. Needless to say it was wonderful! The antipasto was great and the salad was delicious as well. The minestrone soup had good flavor but was too thick and puréed all the vegetables. The spaghetti side with bolognese was wonderful. We had the 8oz. fillets with ample zip sauce which were spot on and delicious. Spumoni ice cream from Alanosis is still top notch. We had an amazing time celebrating at Lelli's! This is a nostalgic place from my childhood when it was located in Detroit. I would go with my family and we would get the six course full meal and I would always get the chicken Lelli. Fast forward to when it came to Auburn Hills, I remember when I first stated dating my husband we spent a great night eating here and seeing a Piston's game once upon a time when they still played at the Palace. Now we returned for an anniversary dinner and it was a lot of fun. We both got the full six course meal. The roll was only okay, but I liked the butter. The salad was nice. I like their antipasto charcuterie plate. The soup is so nostalgic for me. My mother used to make this recipe for us when we were children and it brings back great memories. I love their meaty pasta. We also had some drinks, an espresso martini and a Hawaiian punch mixed drink. I had my old time favorite, the chicken Lelli. It is so good, nice and lemony and garlicy. I love their mashed potatoes, growing up, they were my favorite mashed potatoes. It also came with green beans. We had the spumoni, also an old timey favorite of mine, some cappuccinos, and our favorite tiramisu. The tiramisu was so creamy, I loved how they layered it. Of course, I did have tons of leftovers. I basically had everything left except for the desserts since it was so much food. The staff was delightful. I like the old style feel, again, it was like my childhood, so nostalgic. We stopped in for some of their famous Minestrone soup. We used to go to the original Lelli's back in the 70's for the Filet dinner and that's where we fell in love with that soup. Fantastic service. Old school traditional Italian restaurant. Amazing food. Right now they're doing the rollback summer pricing. Incredible incredible deals. We had chicken piccata and shrimp Lelli. The place is needed a little TLC the last few years and they are on it now. The only thing I think they really need to take care of now is some of the wires hanging from the ceiling. But they're working on it slowly, but surely. But I swear the deals are so much better here for an awesome dinner than most of the Fine dining restaurants in the area. Come in and get this summer rollback menu. We actually had a Groupon gift certificate we were going to use, but didn't have to because of this deal. "Noble" in Italian, Lelli's lives up to its name. We've been enjoying this grand restaurant since their Woodward Avenue days in Detroit and followed them to Auburn Hills after the fire. Even though we're well over an hour's drive away, we still come here often for happy family events. Just moments from the expressway with plenty of free parking (but employing efficient valets), Lelli's is a study in old school charm. The oxblood leather semicircular banquettes make you look for the Rat Pack to emerge, and the menu would make them come running. The pasta is ambrosia for the gods, the sauces are incomparable, and the meat is so tender (and done perfectly to order) that no knife is required. The friendly, professional waitstaff never disappoints and are happy to make substitutions for grandchildren who might be picky eaters (like ours). The wine list makes all of our kids happy (and they're world class oenophiles) and my ultimate test, a Cosmo, rates 10 gold stars. We're looking forward to our next visit! read more

We had such high hopes for this place when walked and it fell hard... The staff was nice the whole time and very friendly. So at least service was nice. That was the only good thing. We waited for over 2 hours for our main dish. They brought out our app really fast which was calamari but it was so salty and over cooked. They do have rolls that weren't half bad. So my main was the porterhouse and what a waste of a $100. They meat was so unevenly cooked. Half basically rare and the other half super over cooked. So sad. Then my sister and mom shared a porterhouse and it was the same way. Just a bunch of wasted money and took hours to get food. We went here for Thanksgiving dinner, but never got our entrees. The people I was with were more impatient than I am, but I have no tolerance for poor customer service. This restaurant has been open for decades. They should know how to handle this. Manage our expectations. Apologize. Bring us some bread. Offer us some drinks. Something. We heard from other patrons that a cook walked out. Our server never mentioned this. He just came over maybe 4 times during the 2 hours we were there and kept saying your food will be out in a few minutes. Now, I know he had to know that a cook walked out. Why lie? I understand why this restaurant only has 3 stars. It's very nice inside the waitress was polite and attentive. The food is overpriced and fair at best. The drinks are good, but way overpriced, $16.00 for a basic margarita is crazy. I ordered bruschetta for an appetizer, the ala carte filet with table side cesar salad. I've never had bruschetta where the bread is soggy and not toasted, maybe I'm wrong on this one but the bread at other restaurants was more crispy/toasted, definitely not soggy. The cesar salad was ok at best, not a creamy cesar dressing, and the filet was cooked medium, which I ordered, but was dry. And to top it off at the end of the night we had to go through the bill and add up what we owed because the waitress couldn't or wouldn't separate the bill. This is frustrating. Even with a group of 10 people they should be able to keep track of what people ordered and separate the bills, every other restaurant I've been to with groups has no problem doing this. My advice, go someplace else and eat. You will save money and I'm sure the food will be better read more

We ate here for Mother's Day dinner with our immediate family and had a great experience! I made a reservation approximately 1 week in advance and had no issues getting a comfortable time. We were sat in an awesome / comfortable booth and had 2 hours of amazing food and service. The ambiance here is that of a very old and stately Italian Steak House. It's like a comfortable pair of jeans, a bit worn, but very comfortable and always in style. The service was excellent - there were several food runners, and our drinks never emptied and the table was always cleared. The food was well prepared and served in extremely generous portions. I didn't even finish half of my entree, and each course was excellent. I think the Minestrone soup was the best that I have ever eaten. The steak was prepared perfectly, and I enjoyed the spinach and carrots as well. Our whole experience was just right for what we were looking for. We haven't been to Lelli's in several years and it did not disappoint! My wife and I were both busy on Valentines Day, so we celebrated tonight. The place was packed! There was a party of 66 and a party of 23 near us and the other side of the restaurant was also full. Lelli's is huge! Capacity seating is 350 and based on what we saw tonight, they can accommodate large groups with ease. Even though they were super busy, the food came out in a timely manner and it wasn't as loud as I thought it would be. For dinner I couldn't decide between the veal chop and the scallops, so I made it a surf and turf. The veal was spectacular! Cooked perfectly to medium rare with a light jus and mushrooms. The sides were green beans and mashed potatoes. My only complaint is I would have loved more green beans. They were excellent. I liked the mashed potatoes too, but the green beans were amazing. For desert I got the spumoni. I forgot how amazing it is. A wonder meal with my wife and we had a lovely conversation with a nice couple celebrating a 69th birthday. The food was very good although not anything out of the ordinary for what we payed. I had the chateaubriand which was $88 and my husband had the prime porterhouse $107. Both of these were the Lelli's experience which is why the prices are higher. The service was good except our waiter forgot a couple of things. First of all my husband's coke which even though he was at the table 2 times after we still had to ask for it again. We both ordered blue cheese on our steaks which was forgotten, when we asked he brought out 2 gravy boats filled with blue cheese. The ambiance was very nice. A variety of music playing softly in the background the four occupied tables were spread out nicely. The creamy minestrone soup was the hit of the evening for me full of flavor. Sadly one of Oakland County's top restaurants has FAILED to deliver. Our family was looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving and a 92nd birthday. 6 pm reservation - table of 5. We arrived at 5:50 pm to check in. "It will be a few minutes." We are sitting in the beautiful lobby, enjoying small talk. Lots of activity at the hostess stand. Next guest with reservation. "It will be a few minutes." An unhappy customer approaches the stand, "May I speak to a manager?" Now the rumors are spreading, that they are running an hour+ late, not a few minutes. Several tables only had water and bread after 40 minutes of sitting. Some people have been at their tables for 3+ hours - waiting for food or simply hanging out. 7:05 pm we are seated, after four tables that came after us were seated before us. Not sure why? The assumption is 4, 3, 3, 3 (not 5, so we needed a larger table)? Still frustrating. No communication with us. 7:25 pm Water and bread arrive. It's better than the 40 mins rumored earlier. 7:35 David, the Waiter, arrives. Very nice young man. Polite. Fast, low talker, and with the background noise, practically impossible to hear. We immediately order our simple Thanksgiving a la carte meal. A traditional Thanksgiving plate. Figured if we got the order in, we would receive our simple single plate in a reasonable time. NOPE. 8:20 pm Food arrived. (More than an hour after being seated.) Food. Good amount of food for $36. Inconsistent portions. Carbs were plentiful and tasty - mashed potatoes (Fine), sweet potatoes (Very tasty, not too sweet), and sausage stuffing (Cold with a bit of spice). The gravy was poured onto everything to make the plate hotter and mask the poor quality of the turkey. The cranberry sauce was family-style and very good. Turkey. Well, one would expect breast slices and/or dark meat portions. Nope, it looked like pulled Turkey (think pulled pork). Unfortunately, it was LOADED with turkey bones. Yes, 5 out of 5 plates - BONES. It is dangerous for our elderly parents dining with us. David was not around to discuss. When the plate clearing happened, and we all pointed to our pile of bones, the young man commented. "Yes, many people have been saying that tonight." 8:45 pm exit. Hostess Philicitie is a wonderful young lady. While a bit elusive with the estimated wait, I guess that is her job. She did communicate and even came by our table to see how things were going. (Before we got our food.) Bussing team - AMAZING. Showed up often with water and drinks, quickly cleared plates, and was generally around to help. Waiter David - Polite young man. He seemed engaged during the interaction. There was no follow-up, and obviously, we didn't put our order in quickly. The 6-top next to us ordered after us, got the food before us, etc. And he wasn't brave enough to ask how things were going. We were so disappointed in the whole evening at this point there was no reason or hope to discuss what occurred. Plus, we would have been in a long line of upset customers. Front of House Manager - Who knows who this is? Who knows why he/she wasn't engaged on this busy important family holiday? This is the biggest failure and my reason for saying this restaurant is failing miserably. Finally, a rumor was heard - The head chef left several months ago, and they have three cooks doing the work. I believe they need to hire a 4th cook specializing in picking bones out of the meat for the customers. Now, before you go saying this is just one busy day. While I agree. Again, the main issue is the total lack of management checking on the guests, essentially no customer service or concern for the guest experience. Classic Italian American dining experience. Interior is something you'd see in a mafioso picture. Prices are too high for the traditional meal(red section on menu), but for the portion size of pasta and amount of protein in it, I can't complain too much about the dish itself. I got the carbonara and added some chicken to it and it was actually really good. It's not an authentic carbonara, definitely Italian American style, but still good. My issues mainly stem from the fact that the service was extremely slow. When our server did grace us with his presence, he was very attentive and I enjoyed seeing him prepare the Caesar by hand, but those visits were few and far between. This is a dining experience that you'll have to allocate 3 hours for minimum, think Benihana or Hibachi. My other issue is with the "Antipasto" dish that comes with the traditional meals. It's like 2 pieces of olive, one shrimp, a piece of ham etc. didn't look that appetising to me so I let my mom have mine. I'd say skip on that and just grab an appetiser. Also, the up charge for the Caesar salad is insane. It's 14 dollars to get that instead of the included house salad which was not told to us until after. The minestrone is bland and uninspired. The pasta was VERY good for me though. Honestly for 22 bucks if you get the pasta alone it's not a bad dining experience. For 39 bucks tho I'd go to buca or another restaurant. read more

We are long time Lelli's fans but will reconsider before going back. It was New Year's Eve so we expected it would be busy. However we were seated in a room behind the bar area with a large party of about 30 people. They had many children who were up and running around and many of the adult guests were walking around as well. Lelli's staff did a great job but we felt like we were crashing a party we never wanted to attend. A party of this size should have been in a private room. The servers were wonderful but our meal took over 3 hours and most of that was spent waiting before courses. The food was mediocre at best which is not what we have experienced in the past. Not much positive here. Reservation at 8, sat at 8:30. Interestingly the owner and hostess could have cared less. Waited a good 10 minutes for anyone to arrive at the table. The restaurant was half full. Staffing here is an obvious issue. Had the traditional plate. Which is supposed to be overfilling. The antipasto plate came with one thin slice of salami, one chunk of cheese, one thin quarter slice of mortadella, two black olives out of a can (the olives I refuse to buy at the store), and one shrimp and one pererocini. This was followed by a good salad. Then a minestrone soup that had veggies that were puréed and had zero flavor, just gross without adding salt and pepper. This was followed by a bolognese that had zero flavor, zero tomato taste and the hamburger tasted like it was boiled in water, could not even eat this item. Dinner was the top sirloin and a filet. The steaks were good. The mashed potato's were flavored with water, no salt, no butter, no cream - disgusting. The 6 green beans were good. The carrots and spinach simply looked inedible. The zip sauce was the only thing that seemed to have flavor. And the rolls were pretty good, the saving grace of dinner. The WORST customer service ever! If I could give zero stars I would. I purchased an e-gift card on their website over a week before my best friend's special birthday. The website indicates it could take up to five days to process (strange.). Anyway, I called the day before her birthday since she had yet to receive it and I was told, "I'll have my daughter call you tomorrow.". No call. I called two days after the birthday (and no receipt) and was told someone would call me back. No call. I called again and was told there were some issues with their system, but someone would call me back. During this call, I told the manager I was speaking with, Gabby, that I wanted to cancel the card since it was well past my friend's birthday. Four days later I saw that my credit card was charged $200. Again, no receipt of card in email, spam, etc. I called to complain and was told by the manager on duty she was too busy to talk to me but she would have someone call me back in about two hours. Four hours later I called again and was told by the same manager she was still too busy to talk. Five calls by me. No call back whatsoever, no receipt of gift card and now I must dispute charge with my bank. Lelli's shame on you. read more

Last night my boyfriend and I went to have a nice dinner. We sat there for an hour and a half our food never came. Finally we asked for the bill so we could leave because we had to let our dog out. We each had two drinks I had two glasses of wine and my boyfriend had two of the red sangria. There wasn't that many people there. We were waiting patiently until we couldn't anymore. The manager walked by and asked if we were good, we said yes he said our food was coming. After that we waited another 30 min. We signed the bill before we even got our food! I have worked in customer service for over 15 years! If something happened you let the customer know, you don't just let them sit there and wonder where their food is! I understand if someone is new and someone made a mistake, you state that don't just let someone sit there while everyone else gets their food and just make them keep waiting! I have been a manager before and as a manager you should have said something other than our food was coming when it wasn't!!! 200$ later and I had to eat my food at home ! We have been patrons of Lelli's for over 50 years, starting in downtown Detroit. We have always loved the food, service and it had become a family favorite for grandchildren as well. But recently, things have changed and not for the better. The prices are higher, but the quality is much lower. Steaks were smaller, even though we bought the largest cut. Appetizer tray was pathetic leaving out meat cuts, etc. We even felt that the meat was not the quality that we have experiences over many years. Spaghetti sauce was weak to tasteless. We had only one server for 14 of us. Maybe the ownership has changed? I'm really sorry to say, we won't be back. read more

Never again. After many years going to Lelli's for our anniversary the end has come. The management has created rules around its guests using the coupons that just don't make sense. The biggest problem for this visit was a limitation that if any person ordered off a "seasonal special menu" the entire party could not use a coupon. Two coupons were purchased for four people. One person wanted to order off the special menu and the other three were ordering off the traditional menu. We could not even use one of the coupons let alone both. There were other problems but that was the most non-sensical of them. One other problem not related to the coupons also convinced us to never return. In a relatively empty dining room the management set a group of 10 -12 men straight off the golf course in a table not five feet from our both. The men were not unreasonably loud but noticeable by proximity. It pretty much shattered a romantic dinner celebration. This on a Wednesday night with very few in attendance. Lack of common sense, emphasis on profit, and lack of planning will end a long tradition. read more

Our waitress was so sweet and the young gentlemen that assisted by clearing dishes and constantly confirming that we wanted nothing else was probably our favorite part of the whole meal. So it started off well and I REALLY wanted to like this place. This was a big part of my childhood and why I became a chef. However, you're paying Ocean Prime's prices (over $100/meal) and getting barely edible food. There was no saving grace and I really did try. The creamed spinach tasted like swamp water and the desserts you got with the "5 course" option were a joke. You pay all that extra to get a scoop of prepackaged ice cream? REALLY?? They charged me full price for getting tiramisu instead... like they couldn't afford the difference ON MOTHER'S DAY. Would have been a good day to go above and beyond. The pasta you receive with this 5 course meal was SO bland. They clearly didn't season their pasta water but they definitely added water to their pasta. There was absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. Such a simple dish and with a few pinches of herbs like rosemary and marjoram and omg please start adding salt, it COULD have been a good course without adding much additional cost to you. The most disappointing part was my filet mignon. This place is supposedly known for the filet mignon, or at least that's what the waitress said, and it was incredibly dry. Even when I just cut into it I could tell all the moisture had been removed. It tasted burnt and gritty and flavorless. I asked for medium and my husband asked for medium-rare just so we could see the difference here. My husband's ended up being a medium-well and mine was way over well-done. I took one bite and couldn't eat anymore but my dogs at home liked it so I guess there's that. Oh and the "zip sauce" was a couple of drops of melted butter on the plate. Yumm? My daughter ordered the dry-aged sirloin steak and got a t-bone. I even asked the waitress if she may have given her the wrong plate, but nope, apparently that's what they give for a dry age sirloin steak. By the way, definitely was not dry aged. It was dry though. Maybe they just meant that it's a dry steak and it's old. That's probably what it is. It was very disappointing because this was my Mother's Day meal and we very rarely will spend this much. Lellis has an upscale feel with valet parking and the option for a "traditional Italian meal" (7 courses). You can order your meal a la carte or traditional (for about 15$ more), which comes with bread, minestrone soup, salad, charcuterie, Side spaghetti and spumoni. My boyfriend got the traditional and I got a la carte; we found that it was just the right amount of food to share. The lasagna was probably the best I've ever had, the Gruyère cheese really takes the dish to the next level. We also loved the red beef sauce that came with both dishes, just the right amount of creaminess. Juan was our server and he was very pleasant & clearly busting his ass. I thought it was going to be a pleasant experience... I bought a Groupon (forgot to use it.., but that just means we will be back there soon haha before it expires!) and thought it would be nice to dress up and go on a date with boyfriend. We were skeptical when we first walked in, the waiter was really nice, explained everything on the menu to us as it was our first time there. Appetizer was great. Salad was a bit sour (too much dressing), soup (forgot to take picture, was too eager to start feasting) was sooo yummy! We ordered the Traditional 6-course meal with the 32oz dry-aged Porterhouse. And then had a raspberry sorbet and pistachio spumoni for dessert (3-layer ice cream; like napoleon ice cream but instead of strawberry, it was pistachio-layer) My night was ruined when someone from across the booth I was sitting in said a racial slur in my direction (they looked directly at me, peered into my soul).
