In 2022, my husband made our reservation, but due to work, I had to arrive before him. Because the reservation was under his name, I was not permitted to access our campsite when I arrived, despite sharing the same last name and being part of the reservation. I waited approximately six hours, until around 7 p.m., before the reservation could be accessed, which meant setting up our tent in the dark. We attempted to find an alternative solution, including canceling and rebooking the reservation under my name, but we were told that doing so would result in being charged twice. We attempted to book again in 2026 but ultimately had to cancel approximately two weeks in advance due to unforeseen circumstances. Under the campground's cancellation policy, we were charged an $81 cancellation fee, in addition to a previously charged $13 transaction fee. We found the policy and the lack of flexibility very disappointing. Based on our experiences, I would recommend looking into Rocky Point or PG&E-owned campgrounds in the Lake Almanor area. We have found those options to be more accommodating, well maintained, and reasonably priced.

If you like the country life and you don't care about luxury you would love this place. The owner, Al was amazing. He makes you feel at home and is really nice and attentive. 5 stars to this place. Better than any "five star" hotel. There's also bbqs outside, tables, grill and small basketball quart with a basket ball. Give this place a chance. A cool tip about this place, in the office, while checking in check out the big rack of dvds movies that you can watch while staying at the lodge.

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW. IT IS NOT THE SAME PLACE ANYMORE!!!…read more I honestly find myself wanting to throw up when writing this review. It is truly the most disgusting place I have ever stayed. I am in a dispute with Visa right now over it. I had to go on a vacation, but I had to restart up my dispute and I am trying to get some money back for what I went through. First, the original owners are no longer there. It does not look like it did with the beautiful trees. This is very misrepresentative. There was a lovely lady when I booked, but she's no longer there. The place did burn down, except for some of the cabins there is absolutely no grass or trees anywhere inside. And it's very very hot and they have no AC!!! The owner is a total slumlord. He was talking to me about buying properties in Los Angeles, where I'm from where I do business and I kindly gave him the number of my business partner and then told him please don't ever call us because we are not slumlords, this is what ruins the industry people like this. He told me his wife hates real estate and now I can see why. She hates people like him. So now onto the disgustingness. First the place smelled like rats the entire time I was there. The smell of rats was in every room. I know the smell because I live out in the woods so it's something I'm familiar with in the summer when it gets rough out here where I live, I live in a forest on the ocean and that is the type of place that has that smell. It was emanating from every room when you would turn on the ceiling fan in the bathroom is when it got the worst so I had to keep the light off half the time and couldn't use the light in the bathroom. I had to use a little light in the Mini kitchen area. I would wake up in the middle of the night and smell rats near my bed and I thought oh my God is that that smell again. I had to go to the store and buy deodorizing spray and literally spray it every five minutes in the room because I could not take it. A lot of people said why didn't you go to another hotel? Unfortunately there was nothing available at that point. There was also a clogged pop-up or sink drain that I never was able to figure out. It should've been open when I got into the room. Brandy, the manager admonished me telling me that that was working but if she had been a decent manager or somebody I could tolerate I would've asked her a question. That was one of the biggest problems there too is that Brandy smelled like alcohol and pot all the time and it seemed all she did was stay upstairs in her little room with her girlfriend in a pot and alcohol stupor. There was always the smell of incense, which is the best way to cover up the other smell. I found her to be aggressive, very defensive and combative, and I wanted to tread lightly around her. For that reason, I did not ask her for anything. I only asked her one time to bring some towels and told her she could leave them out on the bench in front. Of course she knocked on my door because she probably felt that I didn't care for her. When I mentioned the smell to her the first thing she said is oh I've never smelt that before. Well, of course you haven't. On top of that, the bed was like a memory foam hard surface the kind of bed you'd have in a jail cell, the building was not well maintained and the wall heater was not working or in service, which is supposed to be a code violation if it's not working, instead there was a small heater fan on a stand, but that's not really regulation. When I went into town, a lady in a small store told me that her husband was an electrician and he'd been by that building to do some work and had told the owner that all the electrical was faulty and not up to code. I'm not surprised this place had endured a fire and it was probably built back in the 50s or 60s. I do believe the original owners were beautiful people and it was a wonderful place but it's no longer that anymore. PLEASE BE ADVISED THIS IS NOT SOMEWHERE YOU WANT TO STAY. I was worried about it originally and I had actually called a few businesses in town two weeks before I had a chance to cancel and asked anybody if they knew anything about this place. Nobody knew anything and the only few people that did know something said are you sure you want to stay there? I'm not sure if it's even there anymore. I was really worried that I might even lose my money after hunting Oliver( owner) down many times when he said I had the wrong number and everything else he owns a real estate company out in Roseville and I believe he's flipping this place anyway. I finally did reach him and his wife who is the nurse and convinced me. Everything was OK. Most of us are more trustworthy toward a nurse. It definitely works. Lesson learned!!! if a business has six-year-old reviews and nobody knows anything about it and they don't have a website and it's difficult to get through to anybody to answer questions and they ask for all your money upfront!!! GO ELSEWHERE!!!

We are absolutely looking forward to coming back again! Our plan was to head over to Lassen Volcanic National Park and was looking for a place to stay, locally. Camp Almamor at Big Spring caught my eye. We were lucky enough to get the last cabin available 15c. It was in the perfect location on the property in our opinion. It was also the perfect location on the Lake. Not far from town, next to the lake and just a 30 min drive to the National Park. They had all the thing we needed to enjoy our weekend adventure. The cabin was cozy and perfect for 2 grown adults and definitely can fit 2 children. It came with a small kitchen, 1 bathroom with shower, a bunk bed, 1 of which was a twin and a couch that turns into a additional bed. Maybe a little tight for 4 grown adults. But if your intention is to spend your day outside, it works. They also have a additional restrooms on the property that can help ease the traffic jam in your cabin. We absolutely loved this place and can't wait to come back! See you guys next season!
