So many tin toys line the walls as do Star Wars Lego sets, Hot Wheels, Pokemon and more. There's a fair majority of toys for sale which are collectors items, not meant to be played with and they're not cheap either. And Lego is never cheap no matter what set it is or where it's being sold and so hard to resist buying when the little one is tugging at the sleeve or having a tantrum in desperation as they just gotta have it. I remember buying a Star Wars Storm Trooper from a toy shop just like this one in Melbourne many years ago. It was packed in its original box and then in another box but it didn't stay that way for long. I was looking for a Storm Trooper about a foot high and found it and the whole idea was to get one and give it to my child as a gift to play with and enjoy, not as an investment sitting on the shelf gathering dust...what's the fun in that. Anyway, each to their own but Galaxy Toys is the best in town.

I suspect it had a lot to do with the advent of video games. They became hugely popular around the early 90s, which is around the time Toyworld stores started closing their doors. A lot of Toyworld stores didn't stock video games until the mid 90s and beyond, and their prices were ridiculously high. Whatever the reason, now less than a handful of these stores remain. I suppose the resurgence of Lego has contributed to the 3 or 4 remaining stores staying alive, and the Parafield store only recently opened in the past couple of years. If it's Lego you want though, you could do far worse than look here. They have a large amount of Lego in stock as well as other toys. I didn't see any video games in this store. I suppose they leave that to Toys R Us now (another reason I suspect they all died off). If you want to relive the 80s a bit or just want a good, honest toy store then take a trip down here.

I had already visited the department stores and cheap shops and not found anything, even anything I could work with. Found an actual Harry Potter costume here and not too expensive (plus it was what he really wanted). A good place to look when you want to get something different to the ranges they stock in your usual toy departments. They also have a great range of wooden toys and trains. Always able to find a gift for a child in this store even if you have no clue what you are looking for when you walk in.

There's always something a little different and while many of the toys are on the pricier end, there are some great gifts for under $10 that kids around the 5-year-old mark absolutely love. The one disappointment for me was they never seem to have any sales. Maybe that was their point of different, but I try and stock up at toy sales for the dozens of birthday parties we go to each year. Recently, they have started offering Lego at 15-20% off. It's a start and may be a sign of things to come. If you want a toy that will impress, go to here and make the most of attentive and knowledgable staff that will show you many options. I hosted my son's party here and I've never seen a bunch of kids more relaxed, composed and quiet in a party environment. Everyone was so immersed constructing Lego cars, towers and trucks. The party games were fantastic and kept everyone busy from drop off to pick up. I loved how every kid got a special Lego item during 'Pass The Parcel' game. No one was left out, and everyone got a special memento to take home. Party guests receive a party bag with lollies and one Lego character. Apart from parties, they host school holiday activities, corporate events and more! The shop has a beautiful stock of Lego, carrying themes from Harry Potter, Star Wars, Ninjago....you get the drift I'm sure. Laygo gets my thumbs up, will definitely be back for more Laygo fun!

Decided to have a fifth birthday party here close to the date of the review…read more On arrival we were met by our hostess and given an explanation of what was to come. The front of house has a very large collection of Lego for the "child" in all of us and the back of house contains two rooms, one large room for hosting the party and another where the adults can have a sit down and catch up with other parents or check out their Facebook status on their iphones. The Lego Party room is huge. Brightly coloured drapes covering the walls, as well as posters of the different models of Lego both on the wall and hanging from the ceilings, give a very festive air to the whole room. Bring your camera! In the middle of the room is a large rectangular table that caters for about 20 kids. At the back of the room in separate containers and trays are enough Lego pieces to build the Taj Mahal of all Lego structures. It was a great 1.5 hours with even the children you would consider shy came around quickly and starting to immerse themselves in the creation of their own Lego masterpieces! A few games later and a lucky dip and kids all left with smiles on faces. All the kids (and even a few mums and dads) participated in building using Lego and enjoyed themselves. Best thing is that someone else has to find those little bits of Lego that invariably make their way into corners, under chairs and tabled etc. A great day all round, it was well catered and organised.

Now I wish I'd kept all my little Disney figurines, because the owner sells them here. Along with a whole lot of other figurines. BUT the coolest part is not the collectible toys that came out with movies when we were kids - it's the metal creations the owner/artist makes that grace the front half of the store. What are these things? I didn't know if I was meant to recognise them from an obscure sci-fi book or not. When I asked, he laughed and said "No, I don't know what they are until they're made. I start off with something then see what it becomes." Don't you just love artists? Each sculpture is made from bits and bobs of machinery, and end up looking like something from the original Star Wars set. Also, another highlight here are his comic strip paintings. He's been a sign writer for over 50 years, and jokes that he can now draw a straight line pretty well. It's amazing to think he drew these then painted them. They look like they've been printed in paint. A.Mazing.

I was walking down Semaphore Road when suddenly I caught a huge "collectable toys!" sign in the corner of my eye - so of course I had to go check it out. When I walked into the shop I saw the large amount of awesome collectables they had available here, including comic strip canvas paintings that the owner had done himself. How do I know he did them? Because he was painting a batman one whilst I was walking around the store - very cool. So, it's an art gallery/collectable toys store with a heavy influence on science fiction memorabilia (including a Star Wars section and a Star Trek section). Now tell me this, where else are you going to find awesome robots and rockets which such character? I would like to know if there is another store like this one around. There's also a giant alien statue... I'm not sure what movie or whatever it's from, but it's awesome. It's about 2 and a half metres tall... and I want it, bad. There's also a few old school board games etc that you wouldn't find for sale anywhere else these days, which is pretty cool.
