SIMT owner and coach Vinny Scotto is a class act. He is a skilled, supportive coach who is also a gentleman. His enthusiasm is infectious.

I often write reviews of businesses I know only as a customer - this review is different. My son is a coach at Staten Island Muay Thai. I watched my son progress from a youngster reading reviews on any and all martial arts gyms on Staten Island - agonizing over the array of options - to someone who loves Muay Thai and SIMT. Under the expert tutelage of owner Vinny Scotto my son went from novice to assistant coach in what seemed a very brief span of time. Of course there was desire and dedication but the training was first rate and the environment conducive to learning. In addition to the coaching that facilitated skill acquisition, my son got *very* fit thanks to his strength training coach. And the icing on the cake: my son loves children and is now working at SIMT as a coach to youngsters. I am insufferably proud - and grateful. Vinny is a true gentleman - he reminds me of Henry Rollins which is high praise from this old Black Flag fan. I met Henry in 1982 so I know of that which I speak: Vinny is charming, supportive and skilled. SIMT is easy to get to via public transportation: take the Staten Island Railway to Clifton Station and walk two blocks South. The gym is located in the Willow Avenue shopping plaza opposite Edgewater Plaza / Pouch Terminal. There is a parking lot as well as ample parking on the street. Whether you want to compete, as my son does now (check out the great action photos of my son taken by Pari Aryafar), or simply get in shape and have fun doing it I recommend SIMT!

One on one training w Vinny.

Had my 8 year old son try the class who suffers from anxiety. The staff was extremely comforting and helpful and he loved it!

The instructor is top notch and it can't be denied he has a passion. He's great at showing novices how to run through moves.

A combat sport gym can be a very intimidating place to walk into but Staten Island Muay Thai is the exact opposite.

Great new MMA/BJJ gym opened on Staten Island!…read more Location: 407 Manor Rd, SI NY. Gym is located a convenient few minutes off the expressway with decent street parking. Atmosphere: The gym has all the proper equipment a member would need and want to see. All equipment was well maintained and looked new. No rips or stains on the mats, etc. There are benches for viewing, sitting or throwing your gear. They also have a bathroom onsite and other necessities. Everything was clean and inviting. There were many types and skill levels of those who joined the Grand opening, young and old, experienced and new, men and women. Everyone got along just great, they looked super comfortable to be there, and really helped lift each other up. Just watching the classes, I got a real sense of family, of pride and confidence. Instructors: If you're looking for experienced trainers who are enthusiastic and relatable, look no further. During the Grand opening you could see multiple instructors and their different teaching styles. They give a wide variety of expertise and teaching styles to make the biggest impact. All the trainers were friendly and most importantly, hands on. I watched many of them going from person to person, group to group showing them what they can do better or to work on. These guys are not afraid to get in there and truly teach you. No side line coaching. Price: Prices during the Grand Opening were 100$ for the month which I found to be very affordable considering all that you would get throughout the month. There are multiple classes and a wide variety of classes available which makes this gym desirable to a variety of people. Maybe you want a boxing class, an MMA class or to learn some self defense, You'll get your monies worth here. Bottom line: Check this place out!

Brandon is a good Muay Thai Coach, very technical and knows how to break down the techniques step…read moreby step.

Before writing my review - I took the time to read other reviews that are posted for inspiration…read moreand talking points (both negative and positive). I started at Evolution in the Fall of 2013 with the intentions of joining the fight team. By the Summer of 2014, I had my first fight with Evolution and won unanimous. Prior to becoming a member at Evolution I had a strong background in Karate & Boxing. However, there were a lot of holes in my game that Brandon quickly fixed. He is excellent at translating information, correcting form, providing motivation, and creating a platform for individuals to grow. Not only did I win my first fight under Brandon, but by 2016 I achieved 5 championship belts and a Gold Medal for Team USA. From originally having an awkward style to becoming proficient in Muay Thai - I would say Evolution is an outstanding place to train. Whether you are training to fight, become fit, build confidence, or learn the techniques - YOU will get all of that accomplished here. The amount of work you invest in your training will reflect. I don't have anything negative to say about this gym, but a response to the reviews that are not 5 stars: 1. If it is your FIRST TIME visiting, arrive on time. 2. The gym is usually HOT when it's crowded. As a person who occasionally travels to Thailand for extensive training - I prefer training in warm facilities to prevent injuries and sweat out sodium. 3. Brandon is comical, but just like any trainer - he knows when to be serious. Training is already tough and can be intimidating to newcomers, so it's important to remember to have fun.
