Mostly DJ's but occasionally live music and Rock Nights with bands. The dance floor is not huge and usually packed. It bounces too especially when groups of Goths in New Rocks are jumping around. This is the third floor too. Not designed for the disabled as lots of steep stairs to the free cloakroom and ticket office. Loud, friendly and jumping this is an established place having been there around 25 years or more and just as popular now as it always was. Drinks and cocktails are reasonably priced. Plenty of room to circulate if you are good at pushing. The long bar can involve a wait or misheard orders but not much of a problem. One corner used to be called Goth Corner as it was where they all congregated but now the students seem to have discovered it too. You can often find a seat there or else you will stand. Once upon a time you always stuck to the bar floor but they seem to have solved that problem. A shame as it was famous for it. A good night out but your ears will ring for hours.

It is spread over three floors and has many different rooms all playing various sorts of music that suit all tastes. Last year they had a very good female artist playing guitar and singing then in the next room it was 80's Old Skool!! The staff are very helpful and door staff friendly, I have rarely seen any trouble or 'incidents' at Sugar Mill, the people that go in there are generally over 21 and just want to have a good night.

The owners have made it into a friendly place with cheap beer and music; live on Friday and Sunday nights. Lots of cover bands. They also have regular bike nights. It was a bit empty when I went but the atmosphere was good and a local band was playing. The staff were very friendly and chatty. A terrace was set out back for smokers with seats. The beer was reasonably priced. Entrace ranges from free to £2 usually but more for a big name (to the town) band. The music tends to be rock to heavy rock. Quite a new place it deserves to get lots more people in.

It's a pub, but it's also a museum of sorts for you guessed it, The Stone Roses (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE), Oasis, Joy Division, and the like. If I could win the lottery, which I have never played, I would move to York and be within walking distance of The Stone Roses Bar. The staff are superb. Exceptional humans. The bar is nothing short of perfection. The drinks are well-made, tasty, and affordable. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Always. Looking forward to my next visit.

The bar has a big screen and is a bit of a barn. No character. Upstairs has pool tables but on a band night it has a stage and can get packed. Many good local and visiting bands. Recently the Blood Doctors, a London band, went down really well. Cheap to get in to see a band the drinks are reasonably priced. Tends to be rather alternate and studenty. Can be a bit impersonal on an ordinary night although tables, with bench seating around make it good for conversation. Have had some great nights when bands have been on. Friendly place. No trouble.

Nearby is a great rock pub as you wait for opening. Spider decor of course and on 2 floors. Dancef loors in various areas with DJ's playing different music. There are names like the Black Widow Bar. The cocktails come in half pints and pints and have names like Pangalacticgargleblaster and Pink Pugsley. Prices vary but the most expensive is a pint at around £4: Cheapest £1. they range from strong to OMG! Beer £1.20 a pint, spirits are 45p a shot Food is available upstairs and downstairs, along with bottles of house wine - a vegetarian selection too. Chip butty 50p There is a bus service for students from the Uni. Lots of students go but any age is welcome. It's for the misfits really who don't fit into the regular club scene. Great friendly place. Punks, Skaters, Goths etc. On warm nights there is an outdoor area with shelters a bit like bike sheds. The boast is you can get in, get drunk, eat and get a taxi home for under £20. Hotels are cheap if you live somewhere else.

There are some great bands that come to play at this venue aswell. recently the ting tings, feeder and tthe hoosiers have played. There is also a comedy night on tuesdays with acts such as russell howard and frankie boyle playing there.
