I've created a project via Yelp and have received multiple quotes from 4 different vendors. At the end, I've decided to use Legacy Garage Door. Chris had reached out to me and discussed the issues I was having and even provided a competitive initial pricing. He was friendly, straight forward, willing to listen, and not pushy. The next day, Abel the technician came out, he visually inspected my garage door and confirmed the same estimated price. He even suggested to convert my nylon rollers to nylon rollers with steel ball bearing. It added an additional $75 to the original estimate. Rollers usually last you 10-20 years. So we were right around there. We had a Wayne Dalton torquemaster spring system, and converted it to a Torsion Spring system. Torquemaster are supposedly more expensive to replace (almost double the price), so we went with the Torsion Spring System. Not only because of the price differences, but the torsion spring system is the industry standard and easier to replace (per discussion with all 4 companies). The torquemaster spring system has springs inside the metal rod and is rated for a minimum of 10,000 cycles which is roughly 5-8 years. The Torsion Spring system has springs outside the rod and is rated for 12,000 cycles which is roughly 8-12 years. Pay attention to how many cycles in the springs that the companies are offering. The higher the cycle, the more expensive they are. Supposedly, you can request for high cycle springs, which can be up to 100,000 cycles. Your door width can be a factor as to how high you can go. It took Abel about 45 minutes to do the replacement. He was friendly and kind. Both gentlemen were easy to work with and very professional. They listened to what I was trying to do and took extra steps like weighing my door and listening to my future plans (added weight) to ensure it would all work out. Our original home builder used a custom garage door that is heavier than normal residential doors and requires custom springs.
