The technician, Val, communicated with me on time of arrival which I greatly appreciate. Val was very professional and alerted me to a serious issue with my very old chimney that I didn't know was present. I am thankful. He also provided me with options and excellent explanations of each. In the same visit I learners that Lone Star provides other services such as gutter installation and services. That's my next appointment to schedule with Lone Star! On an unrelated he was super sweet to my pestering dog.

UPDATE, 10/28/26:…read more Eli, the affable company head, responded to my original review and came out to inspect the job site in person, sporting white socks. It was evidently important enough for him to meet with an unhappy client that he drove out to work on the day of Sabbath. He struck me as a standup guy and a shrewd businessman trying to get in front of potentially damaging publicity. He assured me that he would drill the technician on the importance of proper regular equipment maintenance. Jacob, the technician, cleaned the inside of my chimney only to end up contaminating the whole house when the dust-spewing vacuum cleaner, instead of capturing the dislodged creosote, blasted it in the general direction of the kitchen in a carcinogenic dust cloud, covering everything in its wake--with the ceiling fan further exacerbating the dispersal of particulates. Eli said that his now-six-year-old chimney business averages roughly 20 jobs per day and, occasionally, people make mistakes--that workers are required to check their vacuum cleaners rigorously to ensure mishaps like this don't happen. I'd argue that this can't possibly be an isolated incident, a Jacob-specific problem. Eli requested that I not mention in my updated review that he had given me a partial refund as a gesture of goodwill to be used toward deep cleaning because he worried some people might glean the wrong lesson from it and perhaps try to extort the company in the event a job goes wrong again. I'm including it here, however, because I think it should serve as a reminder that the company paint a realistic picture of just how messy an indoor chimney cleaning can be and that a client be able to properly assess the risks and to opt out if they so choose. The kicker is that things didn't have to pan out like this. Jacob had done a beautiful job with my chimney ON THE OUTSIDE, power-washing it, filling in the gaps with fresh mortar, and putting a new cap on it. It's just that the cleaning ON THE INSIDE, which was FREE, went wrong in all the ways it could have gone wrong. Eli left my house with the bottom of his formerly pristine feet covered with soot. He was apologetic and good-humored. The now revised three-star review reflects his genuine effort to right a wrong. I wish I could give his business five stars. * * * * * My chimney guy just left my house, leaving in his wake a film of fine black dust, no doubt from the blasting of the creosote off the inside of the fireplace, on EVERY HORIZONTAL SURFACE IMAGINABLE in the house, including the kitchen, which is nowhere near the fireplace. It's a small house, yes, but still. Now I have to wipe down every conceivable surface inside the house, horizontal and (likely) vertical, and wash EVERYTHING. The fracking floors are slick with soot now. Be careful what you ask to be done. I was certainly never prepared for the aftermath of this chimney sweep / fireplace cleaning--especially as I have never used and will likely never use the fireplace. The fumes from the fireproof paint have been etched in my brain forever and are still making me woozy. Don't be like me. Ask questions before you agree to anything. Lone Star, you may want to invest in a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter. This company seems to misrepresent itself by touting the "Asian-owned" badge. When asked to clarify, Michelle from the company told me she had no idea what I was talking about, that there are no Asians at this business that she knows of. Yelp, what's that about?* ------ *Eli reported that he would contact Yelp about this claim, and it has since been removed.

We are a property management company and always need good honest contractor on our network. already lined up next job for them. good job!

I contacted Poppins Cleaners Fireplace & Chimney Repair after seeing positive recommendations on…read moreYelp and scheduled Caesar to assess a fireplace issue at my rental property--the remote wasn't turning the unit on. Caesar called me with the following diagnosis: "Good morning. I was able to program the remote control, and it's working fine, but that's not the problem. The pilot light ignites, but it has two sensors. The first one ignites and keeps the pilot light lit. The second sensor, when it heats up, sends a signal to the valve to open the burner. The valve is sending a good signal, but the servo motor is burned out. So the problem is the electronic gas valve that controls everything. I can do this job for $800. This includes replacing the valve with a new one, installing it, and reprogramming it, since everything is electronic." From the moment he delivered this diagnosis, he was incessant about doing the repair immediately and pushed hard for me to authorize the $800 job on the spot. I told him clearly that I would be getting a second opinion and likely going through my home warranty. That's where things took a very concerning turn. After he left, my tenant called to tell me that the remote control for the fireplace was suddenly missing. Caesar had taken it with him without any permission. I had to call him and demand that he return it to the property. Then, things got even worse. My tenant called again to say he noticed that some fireplace connections appeared to be left intentionally disconnected after Caesar's visit--presumably to make it seem like major repairs were needed. My tenant simply reconnected the wiring, and the fireplace worked perfectly with the remote right away. No $800 repair, no burned-out valve, no issue with sensors or motors--just unplugged wires. This experience was not only unprofessional, but also deeply untrustworthy. Manipulating a system to justify unnecessary repair costs and removing a remote without permission is completely unacceptable. I strongly advise anyone considering Poppins Cleaners Fireplace & Chimney Repair to beware. Based on my experience, their practices are pushy, dishonest, and potentially deceptive. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere for a reputable and ethical company.
