My husband and I had been in contact with Carthage Roofing to replace the front facing mini-mansard roof on our home. Our contact, Rob, asked us to go to Willoughby Supply to pick out the specific siding we wanted. We responded back the week of 11/6 with the exact product we wanted: Single 6-1/3" Perfection Shapes Scallop in Cyrus, Autumn Red, and Colonial White (meant to replicate the color of shingles they were replacing). They agreed to contact us during the week of 11/14 to set something up to get started. On 11/14/22 they arrived between 8-9am unannounced and began to remove the current roof with no call/text/or knock on the door. They removed the remainder of the roof and then Rob left to pick up the material at Willoughby Supply. At that point Rob called my husband and explained that they did not have the material we requested and that we would need to pick something else or wait one to three, or more, months for them to order what we requested. The major issues were 1) they began work without notice 2) they fully removed our roof before making sure they had the correct material to finish the job 3) Rob was an incredibly poor communicator during the entire process. We felt forced to make a decision and get material installed that was not the agreed upon material because our roof had already been removed. Although Rob insisted that he did not force us to make any decision, it was his error in not securing the material that changed our circumstances drastically. Had Rob checked to make sure he had the material to complete the job before beginning, he would have discovered that he did not have what we needed. At that point we would have waited for the material to be ordered and still had our current roof. Instead we were forced to make the decision to change the material or wait one or more months in winter completely without that large section of our roof.

Ken came out, checked out our projects, got back to us in a timely manner with pricing and was able to get us on the schedule. We hired Home Remodeling Specialist to rebuild our mud room and build out/re-do our laundry space. The mudroom was in such a dire state and we wanted to have it rebuilt in kind. Ken and his crew did an amazing job. They were very attentive and careful as the demoed the walls being mindful of our old home (1815). The mudroom came out AMAZING, the detail, the look, the quality of craft! We love it. Our laundry room project was challenging as we wanted to have a tall frame (that had lots of trim detail) and a wall opened up so we could access the laundry area easier. The team, yet again, did a great job, the laundry and hallway looks as if it was always there. I have to emphasize the casework detail in incredible. The quality of craftsmanship was truly excellent--every detail was handled with care and precision. The Home Remodeling Specialist's attention to detail was evident throughout the entire project, and the finished results exceeded our expectations. Do not use this company under any circumstances unless you want a delay, poor communication, and…read morereally crappy service and product. We needed siding fixed for our Tudor and rather than replacing parts of the wood that were rotting, they filled it with putty and filler which never set and was crumbly and soft to the touch. They claimed it needed time to set but after a week of warm temperatures, it still flaked off. How that would withstand a pressure wash before a paint job is beyond me. Trying to talk to their representative about issues that arose was impossible. We ended up doing some work on our own after they finally came around to acknowledging that some of their work was poor quality. Us putting in time and effort and working on the siding was the only way we could move on and get the hired painters in to start our exterior paint job. Mind you we were over a month late trying to get Certa Pro to come work on the project. If you ask ahead about their schedule to come out, you don't get an answer or you get misinformation. They will tell you a time they plan to come and will not show up and will not notify you. While we did not want to replace all of the siding from the beginning because parts of the wood were still in good condition, we did not expect such a poor job with the patch work for the pieces that needed work. This company does not offer to help in any way and their people are difficult to deal with. We used them because we used Certa Pro for painting and they recommended this sister company for carpentry. Biggest regret. We could not put our house on the market on time and they didn't even clean up afterwards. Well, unless you count throwing away parts in our yard waste bin and us having to transfer that to our garbage bin. Anyone else would be a better carpenter. You, yes you the reader, can have a better outcome by watching YouTube to learn how to diy; your efforts would be more skilled than their workers'! Beware and stay far far away! Those positive reviews on yelp look suspect given that they only provided a review for this company and nothing else on yelp. Avoid the headache and stress and go with any other company or professional.

Voicemail said "your call is important to me...I will return it no later than end of business the following day" I0/11 Tuesday - Five days later, Owner Matt M called and said his phone was having problems and he got a huge dump of messages (including mine) the night before. Not happy with such a late response, but scheduled for estimate on Thursday two days later anyway 10/13 Thursday - Matt comes out and in 15 mins reviews the three jobs suggesting they're an easy fix, offers some alternative ideas, takes my email and says "Give me a day or two and I'll email you an estimate" 10/18 Tuesday - Five days later I still haven't heard from Matt so I call asking about the estimate 10/21 Friday - Two days more and still nothing so I call again and leave my name and email awaiting a response 10/27 Thursday - Six more days and still nothing so I leave a message asking for anyone to return my call, hoping somebody would abide by the "return your call by end of business the following day" mantra 10/28 Friday - In a last ditch effort I attempted contact through email on their company website noting that I understand scheduling the work may be a negotiable time frame based on the jobs they already may have booked, but all I wanted was acknowledgement and an opportunity to accept/decline their work (i.e. A return call to discuss options) To this date, three weeks later - nothing.
