My fiancé and I recently moved to San Antonio through the military and were excited to try Lefty's Tap House. We were especially looking forward to enjoying a drink on the patio while watching a game and having a cigar -- something that seemed perfect for a relaxing evening with our dog. Unfortunately, our experience was anything but welcoming. Upon arriving, we were immediately scolded for having our dog with us. The staff member (we were told his name was Brian) was extremely rude -- not only did he fail to ask whether our dog was a service animal, but he made no effort to speak to us respectfully or kindly. Instead, he made us feel like we were a problem just for walking in. It's disappointing to be treated so poorly, especially as newcomers trying to explore and support local businesses. We left immediately and won't be returning. There are too many other great spots in San Antonio that treat guests -- and dogs -- with basic courtesy and respect. read more

Lefty's is a really cool place to hang out, and I can't believe I haven't discovered it sooner. I don't believe they have any food items, but they do have a full bar and a couple of dozen awesome beers on tap. They have an awesome outdoor patio, and inside, they have a couple of pool tables and a few leather couches and chairs. The place is usually busy, but the bartenders really seem to keep up with the pace of things and make sure all of the customers are well tended to. Lefty's you have stolen my heart. I came to meet a friend here and it instantly felt like home. So many craft beer selections...hard to know where to start. I ended up with an Abita Strawberry and got another round it was so good. The blonde bartendar was very friendly and gave suggestions and fast service. The crowd seemed laid back and no drama. Lots of nice looking guys here ladies just FYI. I noticed all different ages. I was able to hear my friends well for convo. The outside area was just as inviting and I felt like chilling there for hours. But sadly I could not. I hope to come back when I have more free time and spend a long, relaxing night here with good chit chat and great quality drinks. read more

Walked in spent less than 15 minutes. Smelled like rotten sewer and the women's bathroom was atrocious - dried nasty blood on the toilet, super gross. I'm all for a dive bar/hole in the wall but this was bad. Sad because it could have so much potential. Hopefully this makes it to the management and maybe then can clean it up a little. CRAFT BEER on the NE side is hard to find, but Leftys has got it covered. The staff here is super nice and runs up and down the bar looking for a mouth to beer. I went in on a night when they had this young guy playing James Taylor and other classic folk rock and 90's rock favorites. It has an outdoor patio for smokers and they don't seem to mind of you vape peacefully. Anyway it just feels like a home town bar with the pool tables and darts and friendly customers and staff. Lefty's is right on! This little sports bar off in the corner of a strip shopping center really opens up to a nice bar inside! It's sleek, and clean. It's a great place to catch the game. On the big screen TV, they were showing two dudes pummel each other on MMA when we took a right turn into Lefty's. I guess Lefty got his name from boxing, and not from the scissors he used in kindergarten. There's a pretty good beer selection, and the bartender knew the beers, and could make good recommendations and descriptions of the beers. They have a decent number of beers on draft, and had two types of glasses- a pint, and a really big stein. Guess which one I go for... However, one of the regulars pointed out that you get a better deal on some beers if you order 2 small beers instead of one big one, and that way your beer stays colder too. It made sense at the time, so we switched to smaller ones as the night went on. Probably a good call. There are pool tables in the back, which were a bit on the wonky side... Yea... That's it... it was the wonky pool table and not my terrible shooting skills. We got hustled out of shots by some regulars. The shots that the bartender recommended was this cucumber/vodka infusion with chili salt along the rim of the shotglass. We were all a bit skeptical. I thought that the guy was trying to get me to eat my vegetables by feeding me cucumbers. It was sooo good- it's like, well- a cucumber with chili salt- it's a S Texan way to fend off a hot day, but in shot form! The bartender pointed out that they have a wide variety of infusions with different booze. I recommend that you stop what you're doing right now, and go try them all. We were a bit disappointed with the jukebox. There's an option where you can pay a bit extra to hear your song next in the queue. I like this place alot. Very appealing atmosphere, comfortable seating, clean environment, nice outside patio. Dog friendly. Bartenders are GREAT, polite and can carry an intelligent conversation. Drinks are cold, glasses have always been clean, beer was always cold. Patrons are friendly, music is not blaring loud so as to not be able to speak to your friends. Restrooms are kept up. The place was nice and the bartenders were great. However there were a few 60 yr old regulars who proceeded to interject themselves into conversations and tables of people uninvited. These regulars shouldn't have been allowed to get as wasted as they were and disrupt others having a great time. It's too bad, I hoping this place would be fun......buzz kill beware. read more

Ive only been going to Leftys for about a year but this is hands-down my favorite spot in San Antonio! The bar staff is so friendly and they actually pay attention to you. It's a nice, laid back atmosphere in the week and its always popping on the weekend with the live bands that play on Saturdays. Great bar, draught selection is not as extensive as some places but they have a lot of specialty and craft beers. Let's just say they aren't wasting your time with the beer selection. :) The bartender is friendly and makes delicious and creative seasonal concoctions to enjoy.
