I got a tattoo here when I turned 18 by Matthew. I never left a review but would like to now. I found Matthew on instagram, and I loved his work. His lines looked clean, his shading was nice and dark, and I liked his art style. So I messaged him and we set up an appointment. I told him I wanted a snake wrapped around my left arm, and that I wanted the shading to be extremely dark to where it was like a black out tattoo. I also told him I did not want it to be an american style tattoo. (I know this is what he specializes in but he has other styles on his page which is why I contacted him.) Everything was ok, customer service was great and whatnot. He was very friendly. After the tattoo was done, I brought up the fact that some parts of the line work seemed thicker than others. He assured me it was just inflammation. When I left, I didn't like the shading (it was not dark like I asked, and as an artist myself, the shading is just not very realistic, also the shading was free handed) but figured I could come back for a touch up once it was healed. My tattoo is healed now. It is covered in blowouts. I am careful with my tattoos and their healing and will add a photo of another I have as proof because it healed perfectly and has no blowouts. I understand a blowout here and there, but my lines are covered in them! And I am still very unhappy with the shading, but I don't really want to go back to someone who already messed me up a bit. I expected more for a tattoo that cost over $300. If I wanted this I would have gone to someone who would have done it for $150, but I wanted quality! I am embarrassed to show people the snake. I attached a photo of the style and darkness I wanted of the snake as well. read more

I found this shop on yelp and I just had to review them! It was the first shop I looked at I didn't need to keep looking. I found the perfect artist within a few minutes. I walked in the shop my first time to meet with the artist John. While I was waiting all of the other artists were more than helpful with assisting me. I got my first tattoo at Left Hand Black almost 2 months ago. I had kicked around the idea of getting a tattoo for years but never felt comfortable going out and blindly trusting someone with permanently marking my body. Turk came highly recommended from a close friend with multiple tattoos, so I figured it was time. I went in around May, I believe, to do a consult and set an appointment. Turk took the general idea I had and drew a quick, "rough" sketch that nailed exactly what I was imagining. Plan on needing to wait a few months before an appointment opens up. Dude is crazy busy but for good reason. I was pretty nervous going into it since it was my first time, but Turk and the rest of the crew were super friendly and easy-going. The full stencil looked perfect. I'm glad I went in with a general idea and then just let Turk do his thing with it. The stencil was a bit big at first, but there was no problem whatsoever to reduce the size. The whole staff made me feel right at home in the shop. The shop, by the way, is unreal. It's an art studio with a few tattoo stations. I was in the chair for about 4 hours for a full color piece that just covers a good chunk of my right pec. Not sure if or when I'll get more artwork done, but there's no question where it will be done at. read more

TUUURRRKKK I scheduled my appointment with Turk in December 2014 and just got my tat on April 10, 2015. I gave him an awkward sketch of the idea I wanted him to design, and I can definitely say that he went above and beyond what I could have hoped for. I requested black and grey, and he agreed to it even though he likes colored tattoos better :p He gave me my first back piece (I'm planning on going back to him for another back piece). I already have some tattoos on my arms, but now I wish I could do it all over and come to Turk from the start. The 4 month wait was worth it! At 10 AM, I was the only customer for hours on that Friday morning, but Turk, Chris, Cole, and Alex were really welcoming and engaging, even if they kept telling me stories about people standing up, walking around, fainting, and cracking their skulls open after their tattoo sessions. So for the next 6 hours (excluding breaks to the bathroom), I lied there grueling over the possibility of my untimely death by sexy tattoo. Let me tell ya, 6 hours can really take the life out of you. During the first couple hours, I was high from the endorphins, laughing at everything (so who knows if they were actually even funny??) but around the 4th to 5th hour, I was drained. My body was exhausted from fighting off the pain. I just lied there, drowning out all conversation, hearing nothing but the buzz of the needle as it scraped away at the skin on my back. I heard some witty comments here and there from Turk or Cole or whoever, but I couldn't even stomach a snicker. Then it only got worse. Not only was I drained, but I was out of my natural morphine. By golly I don't know how I endured that. If I wasn't already too exhausted to complain, and too against the idea of going home with an unfinished tattoo, I'm not sure if I would have stuck it out til the end. I kept telling myself it was punishment for all the wrong I've done in my life, and maybe that helped. Maybe it didn't. But goddamn was it worth it. read more

It seems as many of the other reviews speak for themselves, but I wanted to add to the list of awesome reviews Left Hand Black should receive. In my search for a new tattoo shop, a friend of mine recommended Left Hand Black and I started doing my digging and researching. I found great reviews for LHB so I scheduled a time to come by and check out the place and what it had to offer. All I can say is that this place is clean, professional, friendly and overall great! When I first walked in they gave me paperwork to fill out. The first thing I noticed was how clean and well kept the shop looked. I didn't see one thing out of place in terms of bio hazard containers, needles, or gloves. Everything seemed well organized with a solid place and process. I met with John Sabin who was very professional sketching out my tattoo and taking time out of his busy schedule to talk to me about what I wanted. I had a horrible tattoo that John helped to cover-up. Within a week he had taken a picture I had given him, altered it to fit my personality, and emailed me the sketch. The sketch looked fantastic and you could tell John made the effort to make it look just like I had asked. We scheduled a time for me to come in and he gave me a rough estimate of the cost with a down payment. The day I went back in to get my cover-up the receptionist gave me detailed paperwork to fill out. I liked that they took time to ask questions about my health and ACTUALLY read it and asked me about a few things before I began the process. The sketch was WAY bigger than anticipated and when I asked if we could reduce the size, John was quick to accommodate my need and didn't make me feel bad or stupid for asking them to make it smaller. They accommodated my friend who came with me and they made a special effort to calm me down because I was obviously a bit nervous, chatting with me, and coming over to the chair to check out what was going on. Throughout the entire tattoo (3 hours) John was polite and kind. Giving me time to stretch and ask questions. At the end (even though my tattoo took longer than expected and he stayed way past closing) he gave me detailed instructions on aftercare and what I needed to avoid to help the healing process be as effective as possible. He let me ask all the questions I needed and I didn't feel rushed even though it was past closing. I would recommend this place 100 times over to anyone who was nervous about getting a tattoo. Apart from their clean shop, professionalism, and attention to detail, they all seemed very passionate about their jobs and tattooing. It's probably been about 13 years since my last major tattoo. If it wasn't for Turk, I probably still wouldn't be able to update that number. Now, it's been about a month. After sitting in the chair for 3 then 4 hours, my dream tattoo not only is finished, but it's perfection. Turk first traced my arm and shoulder so he could create a custom piece of art that followed the contours of my body. Then, his wife (yay!), Crystal, texted me the direction Turk was going in with the art. We tweaked a little here and there before making my first appointment. While at the parlor, Turk's sense of humor struck when needed (i.e., when I was in the most pain). I also love debating about the world's politics and alien conspiracies and, fortunately or unfortunately, I love asking questions. Turk entertained all of the above. Quite the knowledgeable man! Not only is this guy, in my opinion, the best tattooist out there, he is a pretty awesome guy to boot.
