PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRELY before renting from Lee's Ford Marina. We experienced so many issues during our rental.
First of all, we (my family of 4 and my parents) booked the Summersun houseboat from Sunday, July 21 & out on Thursday, July 25. Our total cost was right at $6,000 ($1,500 per night) plus fuel, which is a lot, but this vacation is something our family had talked about doing for years, so we "splurged." Sunday morning, my dad (whose name the rental is under) got a call asking what time he was planning to arrive for check in. He said around 2pm, & they would have the boat ready to go. We arrived & I noticed almost immediately that the paperwork said the houseboat was called Big Cream, but we had reserved Summersun. They explained that Summersun had been damaged & they had switched us to this other boat. Without a phone call or email explaining anything! This houseboat was similar in size, but did not have a shade roof on the top deck, which we were really counting on, and no slide. My 10 & 13 year old boys were looking forward to the slide & were disappointed. We decided to take the Big Cream boat and make the best of the situation. We were then told the boat was not clean and we would have to wait. Over an hour went by, and we saw no one coming and going from the boat, so we went aboard and hollered for someone. No answer. So we decided to at least load our groceries, and my mom needed to use the bathroom. It's about 3:30pm at this point. When I went to load the groceries in the refrigerator, and it was warm inside. We were assured it was fine, we just needed to "give it time." The houseboat was also 86 degrees and the toilets wouldn't flush. We went and told the people in the store, and they said they'd come take a look and finish cleaning. They worked for 3 hours to get toilets flushing. We then finally go to leave around 6:30pm, 3.5 hours after scheduled, and we realized the boat hadn't been fueled! So they do that and we leave just before 7:00pm. My husband and I didn't have a light bulb in our ceiling fixture, so we spent the week getting dressed by flashlight. We took our showers that first night with ice cold water. When we went to load the dishwasher, it was filled with dirty dishes and hadn't been ran. We almost vomited from the smell.
Monday morning, we headed back to the marina for them to address the issues. The refrigerator on the top deck wasn't working either and was filled with black mold. The sink on the top deck had also never even been plumbed to work! They again said there was power to the refrigerator and it seemed fine. It didn't work the whole time and we rotated all of our food from freezer to small coolers. It was very time consuming and honestly dangerous with all of the meat items we had. They worked Monday for about 2.5 hours on the boat to get the hot water working, and we asked for the fresh water to be filled and the sewage pumped. They filled the fresh water, but said not to worry about the sewage. We finally left around 12:45pm. That afternoon, the master bath toilet started leaking sewage from around the base of the toilet. We called and they said we could bring the boat back Tuesday to be looked at. We were upset at the thought of losing more time, we decided all 6 use 1 bathroom. They didn't offer to send anyone out.
Tuesday was decent, except for no refrigerator, and one working toilet, but still we tried to make the best of it and hoping to hear sometime from a manager or the owner, which never happened during our stay.
Wednesday morning, our generator stopped working. We called the marina and they said they would send someone out. It took about 5 hours of work, but the man did get the generator working just in time for the last toilet to start pumping sewage all over the floor. At this point, it was 3pm, we called the marina and told them we were going to let our kids finish swimming and bring the boat back because we couldn't live like this. The smell was so bad we were all dry heaving when walking inside. At $1,500 a night! We called and booked the Hampton Inn in Somerset, which cost us an additional $450 for 2 rooms.
Days later we finally got an email, not even a call, from a manager saying she'd refund us approximately $1,600, but that was all she could do. We spent $6,450 in total, and left a night early because conditions were so bad, and that's all they can do! We don't expect a full refund, but half would be the MINIMUM we were hoping to see after all the issues we had. I will never return to this marina for anything. The houseboat was nice enough on the surface, but nothing is taken care of or maintenanced and just had SO many issues, smaller ones I didn't even list. There are serious owner/management issues at this marina, and then the refusal to acknowledge how bad it was was really disappointing. At $1,500 a night PLUS fuel, use a different marina! We are so disappointed by our experience and want to save you the time, money, and trouble!! read more
