Although Ocala does not offer the best food, this place is truly a hidden gem and I make it a point to come here each time I am visiting my Dad In Law. They have been serving up their dynamite chicken since 1966. This chicken is so juicy and delicious and it pairs well with their tasty mashed potatoes and sweet coleslaw. We always get enough chicken and sides to last a couple dinners. It is so much better than KFC but interestingly enough Lee Cummings (original owner) happens to be the nephew of Colonel Sanders. Lee partnered with Harold Omer in 1966 and together they introduced Lee's Famous Recipe and opened up Harolds Take Home. We always get our food to go and driving home the smell of that chicken will drive you wild. They have locations in the midwest and Florida. If you find yourself near one, I highly recommend a stop to enjoy some of the best chicken around. read more

"Lee's Famous Recipe" is the cousin to KFC. I think the chicken is way better than what KFC used to be. Even the Cole slaw taste just the same as the old original KFC Cole slaw. When I was last home at moi beach house, "The Surf Shack" in Pensacola a neighbor told me that the new owner of Lee's lives in Pensacola/Ft Walton beach & we might get a "Lee's Famous Recipe" in Pensacola! I pray that this is true bc "Lee's Famous Recipe" is some good good stuff baby! lol So, for another one of our famous powwow's, I found the closest Lee's in Ocala. There are two of them. Turns out that those two locations are the Headquarters run stores! That's why they are run so freakin professional & so freakin yummy OuiOui. So for our family powwow we ordered EVERYTHING on the menu. It was not bad, it was a great value, it was like $130 bucks for unsweet teas, a 20 piece chicken, livers, tenders, all the sides, biscuits & one horrible apple pie. The Apple Pie is horrible. The worst one we have ever had. It has the worst fake cinnamon flavor just horrible. Skip it. The potato wedges also horrible. They are soft & a strange texture. Skip those too. Now for the good news: Everything else was Amazeballs! Everyone LOVED all of it OuiOui. The chicken is fantastic. The tenders are also fantastic. The liver is the best one we have ever had. Also the green beans with bacon & the baked beans are the best ones we have ever had. Those should come in Gallon sizes for large orders. Everyone fought over the green beans with bacon & baked beans. The mashed potatoes & gravy, Mac & cheese & Cole slaw, all very good OuiOui :)... The buttered biscuits are soooooooooooooooo Amazeballs & we wish we would have ordered two dozens as we ran out quickly. They are served with packs of honey & butter.. Which is moi fave way to eat Biscuits, with real honey & REAL BUTTER !!!! However, the butter packs to go are fake butter. A HUGE no no from Dr Chef. To the owner: "Please get rid of the fake butter & serve real butter. I cannot support fake butter. You know I know you know I know that it's pure poison garbage fake butter. You want to live up to your "Taste the Fame" slogan? Serve REAL BUTTER & get 5 stars. Your chicken wrap is the best Chicken wrap out there. It's so amazeballs everyone wanted to go back & get 5 more chicken wraps each Bok Bok :).... Winners Circle all the way OuiOui. We all love what you all are doing there but you have to get rid of the fake butter." Cannot wait to get back there to get a car load full of the chicken wraps for next powwow & "Taste the Fame" OuiOui. Added to moi list of fave road trippin stops. Will Return. read more

While its a small location, it's outside drive thru was packed. So I opted to go inside and have a meal. Ms Patricia was quick to take my order, their new bowl, with chicken, corn,.cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy. The deal came with a regular drink, for which I upgraded to a large. $4.99 for a full meal is unheard of! The tender was delicious and the sides such as they were, were delicious. I liked how homey the place is. I will certainly come back read more

Love Lee's chicken: Recent visit, another price increase, now applying card charge, seems chickens are getting smaller. This appears to be par for the restaurant business now and cost are up everywhere. I will still order from Lee's as they have a good product. read more

When done right and they get the order correct, Lee's Famous is very good. However, at this particular location on 200, they screwed up my takeout order THREE separate times in a row. Apologies, gift cards, but the problems persisted. I finally gave them one more chance and while the order was correct for a change, the pot pie had exactly one tiny piece of chicken in it. ONE. VERY SMALL PIECE of chicken in the CHICKEN pot pie. About the size of a grape if that. Totally inexcusable. No more tries. And no good explanation from corporate, just excuses. Done with them. read more

My second time here first time the entire experience was byfare much better. Rude woman on the speaker taking order very impatient, I as the only vehicle in the drive thru. Thanidered a 6.99 meal on the order menu cashier says 11 dollars and change? I said I only want one $6.99 meal;ya I know she replies so I ask how a 7.00 meal becomes 11 didn't even come with a drink,so a female manager got snippy with me rambling on about something it would serve your managers to suggestive sell to a new customer maybe make a few recommendations? Teach her cashier how to have drive thru edicate and suggestive selling maybe ? Wings were not good at all I had to put them back in air fried when I finally got home and ended up just wasting my money. read more

First time there, and won't be the last. The chicken was amazing. The biscuits were excellent. The green beans were really good. Service was great. All the employees were nice to us. I got the spicy chicken. My wife had the famous recipe chicken. Prices are reasonable. This location is good too if you are coming from the south. You don't have to go all the way into Ocala. Recommend to all. read more

Worse experience ever. I guess this Lee's chicken restaurant doesn't like serving to people of a particular skin tone. We went into the restaurant around 8:20pm waiting for service. We kept being told we would right with you. My husband and I was totally ignored. Another family of people returned a mini fan back and then this dude went to register and still ignored us completely. Like I said I don't care to much for Ocala Florida. It's too much racism up here but there are a lot of mixed couples. This was a horrific experience that my husband looked at me and said "You don't want to eat here do you?" I said "No. It's like we're not welcomed here." So we left and went to another restaurant where my anxiety eased up. I really don't like it up here. That expertise hurt my heart and my soul to be ignored like that. read more

This was our first stop at Lee's. We went thru the drive-in area and we both ordered spicy sandwiches with chipotle ranch. The chicken was moist and ample BUT...the order was supposed to contain a pickle for each of us. There were no pickles included in our orders. read more

Lees is our go to place for good fried chicken and especially when craving chicken livers. The meals are always ample size servings, freshly and very nicely cooked. Staff has always been pleasant & helpful & efficient. Store appears clean and neat. Orders are prepared in good time. We usually carry out and there isn't such a thing as atmosphere if you choose to eat in but tables are clean. read more

Lee's has the best chicken sandwich and at a reasonable price. Forget the other fast sandwich.

Ordered a chicken pot pie for delivery. Had zero chicken in it. Not one piece. Only vegetables. Very disappointed.

It SUCKED!! Very Disappointed!! Haven't been there in a long time. 3 piece Chicken Tender's "were hard as a rock". Biscuit was all dried out! Coleslaw & baked Bean's were killer!! What a waste of our hard earned money! $18.58 for 2 meals, the same thing ordered on both. Chicken was so hard & dried out thought I would crack my teeth. So I called & ask for a Manager, a guy came to phone said He was ond of Managers, but didn't get there till 7pm My Husband got ours around 6:30pTold Him about foo, He didn't seem too concerned. Said He wasn't there then & didn't know what TV was going on with food. I said nowonder No customer were in there. Just keep warming up the same Old F-n chicken tenders & bisquits cuz they have No customers.Threatened to call Health Board to inspect them, but haven't yet.To shut down that Scum Food, Poor management place, & ripping people off. Decided to go to Lee's Chicken for a change and wasn't disappointed. Service was wonderful and food was so delicious. Doesn't matter if you get the spicy chicken strips, or the spicy chicken it's both good. Crispy, juicy, tender chicken that has so much flavor. Original chicken is good too. Potato wedges are seasoned just right and we got the green beans and they were delicious. Biscuits or soft and fluffy and the iced tea is on point. We ordered a chicken liver and potato wedges plate to go for our son and he was not disappointed! He said the chicken livers had so much flavor and they were cooked just right. We got one of the apple pies for dessert and wow it was so delicious! read more

First time trying. The service was great when I arrived home I live about 6 miles from there. I had some stuff to do so my food sat on the counter for about 1015 minutes. When I went to eat, it was still at the right temperature. I had the two piece chicken dinner with JoJo's, real JoJo's I might add, and coleslaw. It was all very good. I did not try the biscuit as I am not a biscuit fan, but it looked tasty. This will be our choice for chicken when we're here! read more

I really like Lee's Chicken food. I've been there many times. This is a review for one of their employee at the customer counter Ms. B who is always nasty, cold and curt to me. Today, I got the same unfriendly service. When I questioned calmly if I got the right change. She started raising her voice saying I was giving her an attitude and she cursed at me saying "damn" several times. Huh? What a hateful woman to be a minority herself and treat another minority (I'm asian) like this. I even asked the manager if she had dementia because who in the right mind would act like this? She should be working the kitchen instead of the counter, NOT in a customer facing position, because she does not treat all customers the same. She even started yelling at the manager back. God love everyone who has to work with this miserable, racist black woman. If you're the right color or a white man, I've watched her "Honey this and Baby that". She sees me and treats me like the worst scum on this planet. She should be fired or placed in the kitchen. I will no longer come inside if I have to be verbally and inhumanely treated like this. Wow. Just wow... I want to be fair about this. Most of their employees are generally friendly. I've had some excellent service. It's just this piece of Jekyl and Hyde working there. read more

It was so refreshing to be warmly greeted by Brian who assisted us with the order since it was our first time. The chicken was hot w with crispy skin and delicious. Husband had traditional chicken and I had the chicken breast strips. The 2-piece dinner with 2 sides and roll (with honey) was more than I could eat. Will definitely go back again. read more

I don't recommend this. The only reason is it's priced much higher than KFC and somewhat the same concept

We are new residents of Ocala (2days!). We saw billboards advertising Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken Pot Pies and thought that a good pot pie would really hit the spot because it was a chilly day. We stopped at their location on SW SR200 and was waited on by Susie, who we found out later was an owner of the place! My wife and I split a pot pie and an order of coleslaw. Our meal was absolutely outstanding! The pot pie had a hot filling of potatoes, carrots, and a generous amount of chicken with savory gravy, covered by a buttery croissant crust. The creamy coleslaw was a great accompaniment. We will absolutely return for more Chicken Pot Pies and also to try other menu selections. By the way, Susie says that you can order uncooked pot pies to cook at your convenience at home. We often travel to south Orlando to see friends, so we will be taking some pot pies to them a gifts! read more

There is nothing better than Lee's Chicken! Really. Their chicken has to be the largest (photo) and tastiest of any chicken chain I've eaten in and now that I'm back in the SW I really miss it. Whenever I'm in Ocala, I make several visits, particularly on Wednesday and Sunday's for their 3 piece Specials for $5.49 (see photos). Lee's has a full menu and everything is very good. A little background, Lee Cummings and Harold Omer open "Harold's Take Home" in Lima, Ohio back in the day and that's where Lee Cummings Forster introduced his Famous Recipe chicken. But this wasn't some some kid with an idea for better tasting chicken. Lee was the nephew of Colonel Sanders and spent most of his childhood in hs kitchen. Lee even hit the road with his famous uncle in 1952, selling their own special blend of spices along with their famous pressure cookers, which later became part of KFC's "Secret Recipe". In just three years, Lee and the Colonel opened over 800 KFC stores. Wow, 800 KFC outlets in three years, that has to be a record of some kind. Sadly in 1979 Lee sold the chain to Shoney's, who in turn sold it to RTM Restaurant Group in 1995. BTW, Colonel Harland David Sanders died on December 16th, 1980 and is now played by former SNL cast member Darrell Hammond on KFC's TV commercials. Though I enjoy his Sean Connery Jeopardy skit better. LOL Enjoy! read more

I recently discovered Lee's and loved it so much I had to go back the next night too! We first went to the one on Silver Springs Blvd and the next night we went to the one on 200. Both times it was fresh and oh so tasty! We received great service at both locations as well. read more

We were passing through Ocala and were looking for a quick place to eat on the road. We'd never heard of Lee's but from the reviews it sounded like a great spot! I was blow away by the hospitality we received from Stephanie! She truly is such a sweet and considerate person. The chicken was ready quickly and it was flavorful even without the sauces and don't pass up the biscuits with butter and honey. I would highly recommend stopping by! read more

Went to Lees drive through and it was OK. I moved to FL from KY and preferred it up there. The food was OK. I ordered the spicy chicken chunks and they were not spicy. They also slumped on the Mac n cheese so I stole some of my friends potato wedges. Overall I would give it another try but I would try to dine in to see if the food stayed warm. read more

Had a really good experience here just a few minutes ago. Never herd of Lee's before but decided to try something new! Great price, spicy chicken is super yummy. My boyfriend and I both got the two piece spicy special and two sides and only spent $14. The service was above and beyond. A woman brought our food to the table and she even stopped by after the meal to pick up our dirty dishes which is not expected in a fast food type place. Lee's has my business for sure. read more

Tyalh made the experience fantastic. Spicy chicken was great and not overwhelming. Coke slaw & BBQ bakes beans...well they may have been the best in the planet! remember what KFC USED to be??? here ya go! everything was yummy and fresh!

So this was my first experience here. We went in it looked like it was going to be good. It was about 7:00pm not very busy inside, drive didn't seem bad either. We looked at the menu excited to try the items they offered. I order the spicy chicken dippers with mac&cheese with potato wedges. My wedges were cold I asked for them to be made fresh. My plate was retuned with the "freshest" wedges in the cabinet. My chicken was cold and the macaroni was bottom of the barrel. Other then the chicken being cold, it was good. My husband wanted to try one of each of the styles of chicken they offer, was told they didn't have spicy. Not even that he would have to wait for it, just they didn't have it. He like the coleslaw and potatoes. He ordered a pot pie to go, when he began to eat it and there was a big piece of cartilage in it. read more

I have had one experience here, chicken was delicious fries were good, biscuit, dry and hard, definitely return I loved there chicken

My husband and I loved Lee's Chicken but after the last two times we went there, we have decided to go elsewhere!!!! I went there for the lunch special and got there before 2 p.m. and stood in line behind other customers. I didn't mind waiting, but when it was my turn the big woman there started screaming at me that the Lunch Special was OVER!!! What!!!??? It was NOT over, she was just being a snot. Well, I left and called to reach out to the owner, but s/he never called me back. They must not care about poor customer service!!!! I looked at both my phone and the clock inside my car when I got back to my car, and both said 2:02 p.m., which meant that I got there way before 2 p.m . and they should have given me the lunch special. Well, I called, they told me to go back in and said the manager would "honor" the lunch special. Big deal! It was now 2:30 p.m. and all they did was waste my time. They could have cared less. Then weeks later I went back in and the big woman was not in. However, when I asked for the Sunday special (it was Sunday), the woman started screaming at me that the lunch special was over. I said I was not talking about the lunch special, I was talking about the Sunday Special. She said, "Oh, okay," and made the price adjustment. The manager looked at me and must have remembered me from the other problem they created, and he gave me extremely small pieces of legs and thighs -- the pieces looked like they were from a rock Cornish hen or a pigeon!! When I complained, he gave me two extra (small) thighs saying that was all they had! I left and vowed NEVER TO RETURN! Message to Lee's owner: You can't care enough about your customers to call them back, but you may care when you hear that Popeye's Chicken is opening right on the other side of 75 in Ocala. They are almost done building and will be opening soon!!! I will be more than happy to take my business there from now on as I have received crappy attitude service from your employees for long enough! You can keep them and your small pieces of chicken. If this is the way you treat customers, just an FYI, we now have other choices. read more
