Such a great chocolate store and so close by to boot! I visited Lee Sims recently to buy some chocolates for the family for the holidays. Although the area around Lee Sims looked a little rough around the edges, the chocolate store itself was cutely decorated for the holidays with chocolates and Christmas decorations in the store front window. As for chocolates, Lee Sims had a huge variety. In the end, though, I chose a box of 36 chocolates and a box of roasted nuts. Each of the chocolates was fantastic and the nuts were salted and roasted to perfection. Highly recommend this local chcolatier if you are in the area. read more

Great old school chocolate shop located in Mcginley Square in Jersey City. They have just about any kind of chocolate or confection you could need here and all of them are great. Highlights of the chocolates are the pecan turtles and peanut butter delights. Good luck leaving there without something more than you planned on buying. The staff here are great.....helpful and very nice. It gets very busy in here and the store is small so be prepared to squeeze in. The parking outside is also very limited so prepare for that as well. If you need to ship chocolates they do that here as well. Why go buy crappy chocolates at a grocery store when you can come here and get great home made chocolates for a great price. This is the last chocolate shop located in Jersey City so shop here and support local small business. A must stop. read more

Stopped by today for some chocolate. Super cute and charming shop. The owner was so wonderful and friendly. She spoke of her family history with the place and how she as a young girl wasn't a massive beneficiary of the family owning a chocolate shop as her parents didn't bring much chocolate home. She was so sweet and personable and I appreciated the warm energy. That all said, loved the wide varying selection and have only begun to sample my purchase. I used to work at Jersey City Medical Center when it was still located at 50 Baldwin Ave. I could walk to Lee Simms from there, and frequently did - their chocolates are outstanding, fresh, and for me, had a slight honey taste, which I loved. I plan to order some again - as I live in Southwestern NJ now, but I am thrilled that this wonderful place is still going strong. read more

I have been going to Lee Sims Chocolates for many many years. Since I am the young age of 77 as long as I can remember going there either in Jersey City, NJ or Staten Island, NY. And since we moved to a retirement community I order online and the candy is still the best in the area. Everything is impeccably boxed and mailed so securely that not one item that I purchased even had a crack on it. The wait line had over 25 people down Bergen Ave sidewalk almost to Westside Ave. Lee Sims advertises as a SMALL BUSINESS, PLEASE BELIEVE THEM. My living room and dining room are bigger than this store. After waiting Outside online(the Sun kept us warm) , the security guard lets in one person at a time. You have to wait AGAIN over 30 minutes because there were about 10 people waiting INSIDE to be served. They Manually Prepare EACH order. It does not matter you ordered online/called or paid in advance , you still have to wait on-line. total time 90 minutes , paid over $165.00 .for Three LARGE (1lb) - (a REGULAR Size in the good old days). Valentine heart shaped boxes of candy..(they MUST Be Kidding, you can get bigger at COSTCO). While waiting in line , I over heard many 5 Star reviews from people about the Products they sell. My in laws sent us a Christmas gift package of nuts, chocolate, and cookies. When I bit into one of the chocolates I almost chipped my tooth. The cookies were also stale. I called the company and I explained I was embarassed to tell my in laws because we were gifted it and I did not want them to feel bad. The lady wanted to refund my in laws at first but I asked if I could kindly have a replacement of chocolate and cookies. The nuts were fine. She was short with me at first saying they can't keep the items off the shelves, but she agreed to it and said she had my address to send replacement. When about 2 weeks went by and no package in sight, we called to ask. They only offered the reimbursement back to the sender. Again we explained it was the cookies and the chocolates, but not the mixed nuts. I also told them my in laws use them a lot and always raved about them therefore we would like to give another shot. The woman valerie was nasty and argumentative. Already told my in laws not to shop here. Save yourself the hassle, they may have good chocolate (doubtful now), but their customer service sucks!!! read more

I grew up in their chocolates, and now I've been spoiled for life. Nothing seems to match up. To this day I make the trek in to Jersey City to buy their products (I grew up three blocks away). Friends of ours recently sent us a care package from Lee Sims, an old school chocolatier and it could have not come at a better time. Three boxes: one filled with freshly roasted and salted nuts, the freshest and most delicious Italian cookies and a box of mixed filled chocolates. Woo hee. Were all of the above so good. I'll highlight the Italian cookies. I'm typically a hater. "Chalkly, sugary, flavorless" are my typical responses, but these could not have been further from the truth with these. The best. I barely saved any for my husband who absolutely loves these cookies. The chocolates were so good. My father in law always sends us Sees, and I don't think I'll ever be able to look at a Sees chocolate again after Lee Sims. Even the weird fruit filled ones, were still extremely good. The chocolate was of high quality and so fresh. They were nicely packaged and a perfect gift during a sad time. I am very lucky to have Lee Sims in the neighborhood. Window displays are always featively decorated according to the season. I appreciate that they are always there for me when I need a special box of chocolates for a gift. They will happily gift wrap for you as well. They have many different gift wraps for your specific occasion. Every Lee Sims box of chocolate I have gifted was always very much enjoyed when received. The chocolates are creamy and delightful. They have a wide variety of chocolates, milk, dark, caramels, nuts, nut free, pretzels, lollipops etc... They have several options for gift packaging including baskets, cups, bags, containers and several different box sizes. The shop is long and narrow. During holidays the line stretches outside. It can get very crowded and difficult to maneuver. Parking is extremely difficult in that area. read more

Let me begin by saying the chocolates/sweets are good here. Here is my problem with this place. I place an order far in advance in Valentine's Day and pay in advance. Tell me why customers have to stand on a long line along with the people that did not place orders in advance? What sense does that make. This is the biggest money maker in the year and you have your customers that believe in your product and pay in advance standing outside? This literally can be avoided by having someone outside with a list handing out the paid orders. Or have a separate line and someone handling orders in advance instead of having people stand in line in the cold. Chocolate is good here but things like this will make me not come back here. I've heard wonderful things about Lee Sims, and with Valentines day rounding the corner there was no better time to check out this chocolate shop. As expected, walk in and prepare to be surrounded by SO. MUCH. CHOCOLATE. Baskets upon baskets of Valentines day goodies and treats on top of their normal selection of a wide variety of different chocolates. You could go crazy figuring out what to buy. I walked away with a beautiful gift for my fiance but more importantly, a delicious gift for myself - gotta treat yo' self! I went with a combo box of my absolute favorites- milk chocolate covered pretzels and oreos. The milk chocolate has that special taste that you can only find with homemade chocolate. The taste is hard to describe (it's just that good) so all I can say is be sure to stop by Lee Sims to experience some for yourself. I always get 1-2lbs of milk chocolate and white chocolate covered strawberries--I think I had the dark chocolate one year as well. There are certain consolation prizes for living in Jersey City. I know, impossible right? Seriously though, there are a few places in this area that are great and much cheaper than they would be anywhere else. Lee Sims is a great example of that. Down by McGinley Square, Lee Sims has been in business for decades and is still going strong. Walking into their stores you'll get blasted with aromatic chocolate. They have a wide variety of different options--bars, turtles, pretzels, etc.--as well as baskets and boxes. The owner will be there and there's a good chance she'll serve you. The quality level is great, especially compared to the pricing. What I paid in the village for a small box of chocolates (~$30) got me a basket full here, again with the chocolates being on par. If you live nearby, this has to be your go-to for all chocolate needs. If you're going to live in Jersey City, might as well take advantage! read more

I worked in a chocolate store right after college and learned all sorts of useful things about candy. I'd like to think that makes me somewhat of an expert; At the very least it validates my opinion, right? I live about a block away from this delightful store, and it is absolutely one of my favorite Jersey City finds so far. Family owned and operated, the likes of which are rarely seen these days. The lady who owns the store is a doll, so sweet and friendly. The chocolate is fresh, delicious, and not expensive despite the top notch quality. I much prefer it to some of the bigger chain store places that are supposed to be amazing. There are all sorts of bulk candies, from fruits to creams and Lee Sims has won my heart with their butter toffee, which I can't find anywhere. It is covered in chopped nuts and is one of the best treats ever. They also have chocolate novelty items, gift packages, and bagged candy (Swedish Fish and the like). My only complaint, which is quite minor but perhaps worth a mention, is that there's not much space. If more than one or two customers are there, the narrow space is hard to get through. Lee Sims has been a family Easter tradition since childhood. Since I live out in the suburbs, this year I opted for an Internet order & delivery which was easy and arrived promptly, all of it beautifully wrapped without my even asking. The chocolate is just delicious which is why we had to break into it before our Easter celebration. Family favorites include the milk chocolate marshmallow eggs & foil wrapped milk chocolate bunnies. This year we tried the milk chocolate pretzels, also very good. The packages are all generously filled and the price was remarkably fair considering the quality. I was walking around the McGinley Square area one weekend with my bro and decided to check out Lee Sims Chocolate. It's very inviting since it's chocolate but very narrow in the inside. This place can only fit about eight (8) or less people inside. They were very busy for the holidays and I like seeing people in the neighborhood support the local businesses.
