I prune all my hydrangeas in March at a 45-degree angle above a bud on each stalk. I'm not sure how to prevent Bartlett from doing this again. But Bartlett has made a much bigger error at my other home. For years I had been paying Bartlett to treat a 100-foot white oak tree suffering from canker, with major rotting in the lower trunk. I told Bartlett that the MD Extension Service indicated the tree could not be saved. The rep said it could be saved. Nope. The sick tree fell, knocking down trees and shrubs on three properties, as well as my fence. The cleanup cost over $9,000, and it would've been much less hassle to cut it down. I should've sued Bartlett, as I had videotaped the discussion with the rep about the tree not being salvageable. Obviously I am NOT a fan of Bartlett and have since dealt with more reliable and less costly tree services.
