My 89 year old father and I have been seeing Dr Kissel for 30 years. He saved my fathers life in the early 90's by recommending exploratory surgury after two ER visits and hospital stays found no reason why he was losing blood to point where he would pass out. Dr Kissel actually went with my father to the surgury. They found internal bleeding. Dr Kissel is a great doctor! He will NOT tell you what you want to here, he'll tell you the truth. Horrible. Just horrible. I am not feeling well, I desperately need to find a doctor in my area and fast and today, after reading the reviews I decided that Dr. Kissel sounded like the type of doctor I could trust to really find out the source of my headaches and get me back to normal. Well, I did not even get past the person who answered the phone! She picked up the phone like she was answering her phone at home! Not only that I could barely hear her, so I did not even realize someone had answered! I said "hello" just to make sure someone was on the line because all I noticed was that the recording had abruptly stopped. I said hello again because I thought I heard someone respond but I was not sure since again, the voice was was muffled. She practically yelled at me, definitely snapped at me and said HELLO CAN I HELP YOU!? I said "Oh hello, sorry I did not know if someone was there I can barely hear you" I can't recall what she said but her tone was abrasive and she was not helpful, she just sounded like a miserable front desk clerk that hated her job and just wanted to get through with the day! Well, I am a person who is unwell, the last thing I need is a rude person as a gatekeeper to the improvement of my health (I called at 3:14 on May 7th in case the business would like to try to track down who this person is) this definitely had a chilling effect on me and I doubt I would even care to try and call again. I really don't care to deal with mean people, especially if I DO like the doctor, since then I would have to deal with this person more!! I actually asked the person on the phone "why are you speaking to me this way? you sound like to are trying to get me to hang up and all I said was that I could barely hear you." she just said she was only trying to help and she immediately tried changing her voice to a friendly tone. I just hung up. I don't have time for games. This is my health. To the business: I just want to point out that I used to work in a VERY busy, VERY successful doctor's office for almost a decade and the people who answer the phone are integral to the success of a practice! If you need to pay someone more, give them more benefits, FIND SOMEONE ELSE that is possibly younger, fresher and more pleasant who appreciates their job, so be it, it's worth it. The demeanor of the secretary or receptionist is the first thing patients will encounter besides these reviews. It's unfair to this practice to have unpleasant people ruining an experience before it begins. I want to hear an inviting voice, I want to see a smiling face and I want to feel at ease. I have been a patient of Dr Kissel's for over 10 years. He treats also treats my brother, my husband and my children. I could not be happier with his care. He is thorough, ridiculously experienced, and one of the most intelligent individuals that I have ever met. He has kept my family healthy and made sure we receive all preventive care required. I love that he never dismisses my concerns but rather investigates them. He is extremely good at maintaining his patient schedule. I am always able to see him when necessary and never have to significantly wait for an appointment. Before finding Dr Kissel, I had seen a slew of mediocre family practice physicians. Was my primary care doctor for years but is too busy to pay attention to anyone that doesn't fit within his schedule. Can take months (or even a year) to get an appointment for a physical. When you finally do get a physical, after all the tests you get a call from some woman in his office telling you your level is Z, we like it to be between X and Y, with no explanation of what it is or how to get it to between X and Y. Guess he's too busy to give anyone any medical analysis or advice. The practice has become one that puts making $$$ over people's needs. Needed to get in urgently in January and could not get an appointment, he just sent a prescription refill in?!?! I don't think he takes new patients anyway. If you want a partner in your healthcare this is not the guy!!! He has become everything that is bad about medicine today. That combined with his lousy office staff and condescending attitude make this a place to avoid! read more

It has taken me many months to write this review. I did not want to write this while I was angry. Being a small business owner myself I think it is important to write positive reviews and not focus on negativity. In fact, I have never written a negative review until now. To say this Dr. is a disappointment is an understatement. My mother had been under the care of Dr. Kissel for over 30 plus years. While I have been unhappy for a long while with his lack of attention to my mother she did not want to change doctors so I honored her wishes... until now. My mother is 89 years old and she does have short term memory loss but overall she does really well. She has had regular appointments with Dr. Kissel about every 4 months which included blood drawn. She was at my house one night and started to complain about a severe headache and her arm was numb. We called 911 and while they came and found nothing wrong they recommended that we call her Dr. in the morning. First thing we did was call the office and asked Dr Kissel to give us a call back. Nothing.....Second call was the same.....Nothing. Finally, after calling 3 times he comes to the phone. I explained what happened the night before and just wanted to know if he wanted us to bring my mother in to see him. His answer to me was " I want to ask you a question" Thinking he wanted more information as to what was going on with my mom I said "sure, what do you want to know?" His response? " How much longer are you going to put her through this?" I asked him to repeat what he just said because I could not believe what I had just heard. In a somewhat louder voice he repeated...How Much Longer Are You Going To Put Her Through This? "Wow" I responded.....What are you saying to me Dr Kissel? Do you want us to just let her die if some emergency comes up? "Well, he states, that is what she wants. Every time I speak to "the woman" she tells me she does not want to do anything. First off, "the woman" has a name and her name is Irene! She has been your patient for over 30 years. She deserves respect. Second, Dr Kissel, that is not a question for you to ask. That is for my brother, my sister, my self, and my mother to make a decision about. You are suppose to be her Dr. who makes sure she is getting the best care possible. We immediately changed physicians for my mother and have had nothing but positive results. The first thing her new Dr. asked is why she had not seen an endocrinologist for her diabetes. Well, Dr Kissel apparently never thought it was important enough to send her to one even though her numbers were always extremely high. Many times I asked him if she needed insulin and every time he stated no. She is now on insulin which has helped tremendously with her blood sugar. Is my mother stubborn? Yes she is! Does she have a death wish? Absolutely not!! You, Dr Kissel, did not care enough to see that this is an elderly patient who struggles with aging. You have no right to brush her off as not wanting to live anymore! You have no right to make that decision! She is doing so much better under the care of a physician who truly cares. It is the way you approach your patient that is the key. Mammogram that you asked her if she would do? Done! Even an ultrasound of her breast area done. Why? Because her new Dr. knows how to talk to the elderly. Her new Dr cares. Many people see you Dr Kissel as amazing. You may be for awhile. A word of advice to your patients. Just don't get old.....for he soon will no longer care. read more

Dr, Kissel seems to be a caring Dr. His staff was terrible when I had questions months ago, I only saw Dr. Kissel one time and he became my official internist. He has a wonderful sense of humor and that is important in my life. This morning I called his office and got cut off once. It probably was my phone which is sometimes faulty. I asked to speak with him or to get a referral for a specialty physician and I was told he will get back to me at the end of the day . I only needed a referral and wondered why tt would take a complete day . It is now afternoon and I will call my former internist who is great, Dr, Cassleman and his office was out to lunch till two pm .He now is required only to be my cardiologist by some rule . I will go to the yellow pages for the specialist or the internet. It is more or less time of the essence for me to locate this specialty doctor, I knew Dr. C's office was extremely helpful and always had a list of specialists they could refer a patient to . I read other reviews and found that my experience was not unusual. I will still try to keep Dr. Kissel as my Internist and hope that I learn how to be more healthy in future scheduled visits. The wonderful caré from Dr. Casselman I miss him (although he is still my cardiologist ) and the sense of humor that both of the doctors have is important to me as well as the rest of their talents. . I am trying to work out the medical problem I have on my own in the interim if the yellow pages do not help. .. Since preparing this review I asked for help from Dr. Kissel and was referred to another Dr. in his office and learned I had bronchitis and got a prescription and advise and got better . I have since seen Dr, Kissel and he made time to see me and I recovered based on his suggestions. I am glad he is my internist and am glad I still have the wonderful help from Dr. Casselman . I give five stars to both and now need help in learning how to type without so many typos. read more

He recognized my symptoms immediately that I was in kidney failure. He got me the proper medication and saved my life! Went to see this doctor for a physical as my insurance pays for this once a year. First off I waited 4-5 months to get an appointment. In the waiting room they posted a sign saying to the effect that if you're coming for a physical but have other issues, you'll be charged a separate office visit asking questions re: a new problem. Fair enough. I went in, brought in labs and I'm super healthy. As expected, everything checks out. Dr Kissel asked me if I had any questions, so I said yes I still take a nasal spray for allergies- should I keep it and he said yes. I had no other issues. A month later I get a bill of $74. I was charged for TWO office visits and for EKG! I called billing and they read his medical notes and said he made a note pertaining to "bronchospasm", which is caused by my allergies. He had the nerve to use this as a new problem just to charge me an extra office visit!! So if you ask him should I keep taking the same vitamins, the fear would be this will be a new visit. Bottom line- don't ask any questions. The visit itself took forever as dr k complained repeatedly how he was slow taking notes on computer and the new computerized system. He's the voice of doom and gloom. When my Labs were amazingly good- he had nothing positive to say. Overall poor customer service, poor physician. Go elsewhere. I hear other physicians in his office are much better. I really wanted to like this doctor as he came recommended but these office practices are shoddy and unscrupulous. read more

His referrals to specialists are always the best, and only given when needed. His knowledge of my personal health and his general interaction with my husband and I in the office is #1. Dr Kissel is a great doctor. Takes time with you, is both knowledgeable and practical. I'm very happy to have him as my primary doctor and would surely give him five stars. However, his front office staff, or more appropriately the lack thereof, is awful! Literally 80% of the time when you call you'll go to voice mail or be left on hold for 5-10 minutes. If that happens on occasion you assume it's an unusually busy day. But when it happens almost all the time, either their front office is horribly under-staffed or the staff doesn't make adequate effort to answer the phones in a timely manner. Either way, it is a TOTAL pain to have any interaction with them...booking appointments, cancelling them, getting referrals, insurance questions, etc. He's a great doctor who desperately needs to hire more front office staff or replace the people he has. read more
