Has a 'system' that he applies to everyone and ignores individual needs/circumstances. Save some time and find someone else.

Joan helped me through a lot in my life. As an adolescent,…read moreI'd seen a lot of therapists- particularly because I'd had a rough time. Growing into adulthood is a struggle for anyone, and I was having a rough time. You meet people that care, and then you meet people that both care and can engage you. The latter is Joan Normandy-Dohlberg. Not only did Joan make me feel comfortable & safe to express my feelings (& share my deepest darkest,) but she engaged me in a way I knew I was heard & felt I could accomplish more & do better for myself- no judgment, no falsity. She helped me every step of the way, ESPECIALLY when I was in my own way. As someone who's seen a lot of therapists in the greater Burke/DMV area, I want to be clear that I am leaving this review as a GLOWING review of Ms. Dr. Joan Normandy-Dolberg-- and you'll be hard-pressed to find a better therapist than her.

She is very knowledgeable and uses different methods to help you cope and understand your feelings and so you can process a painful past and not let it impinge on the rest of your life. She is a great listener but unlike another therapist I had in the past, she doesn't just listen and tell you its "normal", she actually discusses how it's affecting you and ways to lessen it's impact on your mental health. She uses EMDR, a therapy that helped me SO much by lessening the pain of past trauma and now the remembrances of these events is much more infrequent and does not cause high levels of anxiety. You can ask my husband, my life has vastly improved since I started seeing Joan. Karen, her office manager, is very sweet and friendly and it is just such a great environment. If you are in need of a genuine, caring and highly qualified counselor, I highly recommend Joan.

We have been seeing Dr. Emily Danon for over a year with our daughter who has severe ADHD and ODD…read more Emily has been pivotal in reaching us how to effectively parent and support our child, as well as help improve her self-confidence, life skills and coping with her disorders in a very positive, professional way. She has always gone out of her way to support us and our daughter, including facilitating sessions during vacations, summer camps, etc. Since beginning therapy here, our communication and relationship with our daughter has never been better. Emily genuinely cares for her patients and it shows. It's worth mentioning, Emily is one of my daughters favorite people. So it's safe to say it goes both ways. We painstakingly searched for months and months for a pediatric therapist and I couldn't be happier. I would recommend Emily to absolutely anyone.

I can't believe I haven't written Dr. Shostak a review, long as I've been his patient! I saw two…read moreawful reviews on Google, which I refuted there, and now will, here, too. Basically, he's your stereotypical absent-minded professor caricatured in TV and movies. His office is in W. Springfield, shared with other businesses - not a medical park. The building actually smells like feet and exhaust a lot of the time. it's just him and his office manager, Margaret, so he's extremely busy all the time - there's no bank of doctors under one umbrella. And from my hometown, it's a really long drive, which is a big strain. I wouldn't go to anyone else though. I hope he never retires, because i'll be hard-pressed to find anyone else as good; that I trust. He knows what it's like to live with chronic illness, and what that does to a person's cognitive abilities, behavior, demeanor, and even personality. And he's helped me fight to keep my LTD benefits from my last employer, through 3 different administrative companies over the past 7 years. He does this by using the results from my testing; and his own considerable expertise - to refute the spurious and junk-science smarmy assumptions that so-called 'doctors' in their so-called 'file-reviews' see fit to smear me with in attempts to discredit me. Basically, LTD just doesn't want to pay out - and Dr. Shostak fights back with science, knowledge, and a caring attitude. There's not really any treatment or medicine for my condition, so watchful waiting with regular testing really *is* the treatment. And he actually listens, which is the most important thing any doctor can do, IMHO. Id' take that that any day over a flashy, expensive office, a bank of newbies right out of med school, boastful credentials all over the walls, or anything else that really doesn't matter. This guy knows what he's about; and he's helped me and other folks with chronic illnesses - that's what really matters!

Dr. Shostak is lovely and a brilliant doctor. I have nothing but wonderful feedback. His office…read morestaff however, is the reason why I am writing this review. We paid for an evaluation last year and I then requested a zero balance invoice, which I received after 3 requests. Several months later, my credit card was run for $900. I called and spoke with the office manager, Margaret Duda and she provided no reason for running the card. I also emailed her proof of the payments we made for the evaluation as well as the zero balance invoice SHE emailed US. She responded that she found "the problem" and was refunding our credit card on 2/18/21. After 5 weeks, she still has not completed the refund, despite several requests. I had to file a dispute with my credit card company and she did not respond to that either. A word to the wise- I would not leave my credit card on file with that office. I would only give a check.
