Very clean and modern cafe and bakery. They are still following Covid protocol so they have a one way in and one way out. There is no indoor seating for the moment, so I couldn't take advantage of the minimal and modern vibe. From the looks of it, there is stand up counters that line the windows, two lounge chairs centered in front of the pick up counter, and then lots of stacks chairs to accompany the square wood tables. Friendly staff is always a plus and she was patient as well. Picked up their famous delectables, their cinnamon bun and their cardamom bun. Soft, sticky and perfectly spiced. The cardamom bun had just the right amount of flakiness. Grabbed two chocolate chip cookies for my boys and they loved them. I hadn't visited Leavened since January and it has somehow even better than I remembered. During a late afternoon in crappy weather, I found myself stopping by because of the rare abundance of parking spots outside. I was the only person in there! They are still taking health and safety precautions seriously, which I really admire since the pandemic is not over. There's a large plexiglass window, staff are wearing masks and gloves and hand sanitizer is abundant. My favorite thing about Leavened is that regardless of what time you get there, and regardless of what they are sold out of, every single item is delicious. Whether you find yourself with a chocolate croissant, a pepperoni roll, or a scone, you will love it. I recommend getting a few pastries and freezing the ones you don't eat. My friend Linda taught me this trick, and they were honestly just as good at a later date. Literally, I just love this local business. Lovely little bakery shop to work and study in! Tons of baked goods and sweets! Very reasonable prices and the staff are super nice too! I decided to get a ham and cheese croissant along with an inched vanilla espresso. The espresso was a bit bitter, which is expected, but the cream and sugar offered at the coffee bar helped me make it taste a bit better. On the other hand, the ham and cheese croissant was mouthwatering deliciousness! I'm a sucker for croissants, but this one was from another planet! It melted in my mouth with a soft and textured taste! Loved it!! While I was here I worked on some readings I had to do. They offered WiFi, and a variety of different sitting areas. On my way out the door I did grab another drink, and Iced Hibiscus Berry Tea- delicious as well!! Hopefully more iced teas are to come in the future as this is the only one they currently offer. Wow.. what a great selection of breads and pastries. This cute shop is clean and offers a fantastic selection... I stopped in to buy a few treats for a friend and of course walked out with some goodies for me as well. My choices were difficult... so much to choose from. I left with a huge and delicious citrus cinnamon sticky bun.. the dough was delicious.. with a very light citrus taste. My personal purchase was rounded out by a chocolate chip cookie( which I shared with my friend) and a cheddar cheese scone. Both were also amazing.. I also purchased a focaccia bread and a cardamom pastry for my friend and the feedback was incredibly positive. I was also tempted to buy a lemon hand pie but I guess that will have to be on my next trip.. hopefully that will be soon.. I can't wait to return. read more

Yummm. We were here for an early lunch on a rainy day and left with full hearts and stomachs. They had a charred tomato soup on special (that wasn't cream-based ) and it was fantastic. The eponymous char shone through, it was an ideal temperature, and it hit the spot given the weather. It also happened to pair ideally with the Mexican street corn focaccia we ordered, which was one of the most special pieces of bread that we've ever had: perfectly chewy and topped with all the fixin's that you could ask for. HOWEVER, it should have been served with a steak knife or some other kind of serrated bread-cutting utensils because we had to hack at it and use our hands and it ended up getting messy. Just go to Ikea and buy some cheap ones! Your customers would appreciate it... The guava, etc. hand pie seemed to have had too much filling spill out, but we enjoyed the flavors and the flakiness of the crust. Three thumbs up all around for the vegan rye double chocolate cookie. The coffee, iced tea, and hot chocolate were fine. The staff was pleasant but not overtly so, and the ambience is bright and open without insanely loud music. Overall, we had a wonderful meal and easy morning here--a great bakery stop if you're in "the land." read more

Situated right under an apartment building and down the street from Tremont Taphouse, this new artisan bakery is a must see! Delicious bread, pastries, sandwiches, soups and plenty of caffeine fueled beverages to make your morning/ early afternoon better. I can personally attest to how yummy their pepperoni rolls, baguettes, croissants, and sandwiches are and look forward to coming back for more. Been to Leavened 3 times now, I stop in after work Downtown to grab some baked goods. Between 3-4pm they have Happy Hour with $3 for most breads and $2 for most of the pastries. Located in the ground floor of a new residential building on the edge of Tremont, Leavened is a sleek modern space with plenty of large windows and room for seating that is currently not in use due to the pandemic. I have tried several different baked goods. Overall good, the croissant based pastries are flaky and buttery with subtle fillings. The cinnamon rolls are huge and doughy with an overabundance of sugar. The breads are good, hearty loaves with crusty exteriors and good interiors. The Sourdough has a nice tang. The classic pan is a great balanced loaf with a mild flavor. The rosemary focaccia is a bit heavy and not as soft as I prefer. Overall Leavened is a welcome addition to the area, the products are all made with quality ingredients and craft. The results are generally good to excellent. read more

Their pastries are huge, decadent, and pair well with their coffee selection. I came here to study, and it has a great atmosphere. Tons of natural light, tables, and outlets... My daughter and I met here for coffee. We were underwhelmed by the coffee but that's not what they're famous for. I had some charred tomato soup that was excellent. I'm currently eating a chocolate chip cookie 2 days after purchase and it is still soft, buttery and everything you want in a chocolate chip cookie. I didn't review when they first opened because I wanted to try more of the menu. At this point I've tried pretty much everything including rotating treats, lunch sandwiches (vegan options included), and coffee drinks. The bread is great, the croissants are great, the cookies, hand pies.... everything is GREAT! A true neighborhood bakery. The staff is very friendly and quickly handles any mishaps brought to their attention. I love that they donate any remaining bread at the end of the day. It will be lovely to sit down and people watch through their beautiful floor to ceiling windows once they begin offering indoor seating. They also have happy hour from 3-4, for discounted bread only. The latte was fine, but the bun was the main event, and I'd give it a 4/5 and that's just because I prefer them with some frosting on top. This is a great addition to bakeries on the West side. prior to opening, I was driving all the way to On the Rise (which is a trek!) Thankfully, I have a great place to get bread closer to home. Once a week since opening, I get a mini French baguette and a sour dough loaf for the week. It is such a treat to have such good quality bread to pair with my meals.
