My friend and I visited on a Saturday morning for breakfast and we were immediately excited we chose this local spot. The bakery and bread items were plentiful and everything looked delicious. The cinnamon roll was our favorite and it will be the reason to return. I also loved my lemon lavender scone, eating half there and taking home the other half for dessert. I wasn't as happy about the sides from the grill. My eggs were extremely peppery and I gave up eating them because every bite was overwhelming. My two slices of bacon were hard and pitiful, definitely not worth the cost. My friend noted her sausage as "interesting". The space has seating at the grill and two rooms, with one being crowded because of the incoming crowd. However, we were so happy to be there that we didn't mind the visitors and no one was rude to us as they walked along the ordering counter. The owners are a husband and wife team. She was friendly and talkative and we loved her the pride she took of the shop. We left with more pastries and bread. Such great selection and pricing. This is a reason to promote this shop. Looking for baked goodies? What about a Reuben sandwich? Or even both? Leaven came up on our random search for bakeries so we stopped by. They were over all good, although the cheese Danish was a bit sour (not in a bag way, just different). We looked at the menu while there, so when we wanted lunch after the farmer's market, we gave them a second visit. This time, I got my favorite (Reuben) and my DH got a Philly cheese sandwich. We split a giant pile of fries (a la cart) as well. I took my sandwich home and it reheated beautifully in the air fryer. Don't forget to ask for water, it's not automatic! Knocking off half a star and rounding down because 1) service was slow! We didn't mind sitting outside chatting and taking in life, but it was a very long time before we got food and we noticed the same for other tables and 2) my sandwich needed a bit more meat and a bit more sauerkraut. Ok first is the service. This small shop is awesome. The people here are so very friendly. If I lived here I would be here all the time. We ordered an omelette with bacon spinach and tomato. So good incredibly fluffy and fresh tasting. My wife ordered the avocado toast with eggs. Man oh man. House made bread good amounts of avocado and two eggs on top. She may have won the ordering but it was close. Everything is fresh and tasty. You can tell they love food and it comes out in their cook of things. Leaven Bakery had some beautiful options in the case but we opted for hearty choices this time. The Leaven Hot Brown was a delightful take on the traditional dish. The biscuit was HUGE, light and delicious. The gravy very flavorful and the chicken breast was not too heavy on breading, perfectly crispy outside & moist inside. The bacon was exceptionally flavorful. A perfect combination. My husband has the Americano: eggs, bacon, potatoes & sourdough toast. The eggs were perfectly prepared and the breakfast potatoes (which I am VERY picky about) were exceptional. Great space with friendly service, tasty food, and a limited menu. That door's a push, by the way. We visited for lunch and were highly impressed with the way the restaurant looked. It is a little rustic, but clean and modern at the same time. With the open kitchen and eat-at bar stretching the right side of the extremely sunny room, a case of baked goods and an ordering counter to the left and a more intimate dining space tucked up and around some stairs, it was an amazing transformation from it's previous occupants. The menu is fairly limited with only a handful of lunch and breakfast entrees. More limited when we visited due to the lack of chicken on hand. But the food was five stars! I am sure on most days the bread is heavenly and the meals sumptuous. Mine was not. Sadly. Less than 3 minutes after it was served, and without me touching it except to gently turn it over after I became suspicious, the grease showed itself to have gushed out from whatever was inside. I have been following Leaven Bakery since they were just a biz on social media, run out of the owners' home. I'm thrilled that I got to visit their brick and mortar location. Leaven Bakery boasts some outdoor seating and indoor spots, along with a lunch menu and ample bakery case. I loved that you could see the bread being made right when you walk in. I opted for a peanut butter cookie for my son, blondie and apple turnover, along with a loaf of ciabatta bread. The bread was the star of the show. Once I got it home and we sliced it up, we found a crusty bread that was fresh and soft in the inside. I would go back just for this. The other treats were great as well. I've been trying to get over to Leaven for "Cinnamon Roll Saturday's" for a while & I finally made it! Like everything else Leaven makes, the cinnamon roll it did not disappoint. The dough was perfectly light & cinnamon-y. The icing was to die for. 10/10 in my books. Be sure to check their Facebook page or call ahead on Saturday's to find out what time the Cinnamon rolls will be coming out of the oven. They don't last long so get there ASAP. I've been a fan of Leaven Bakery since their pandemic Yelp sourdough master class. The owners, Zechariah and Kimberly, clearly share a passion for the art of baking, and this love shines through in every aspect of their business. Leaven is located in an over-100-year-old building that the owners renovated themselves, and exudes character and charm (exposed brick, industrial lighting, open kitchen). In addition to a rotating variety of sweet and savory baked goods (offerings change daily), they also serve breakfast until 1030a, and lunch starting at 11a. The avocado toast is inspired - a thick slice of perfectly toasted artisan bread spread with mashed avocado, topped with eggs, and delicately accented with edible flowers and shaved radishes. The accompanying hash browns are beautifully cooked and seasoned to perfection. Because bakery, we also had to try the everything bagels and a raspberry blueberry galette - some of the best baking I've tasted in a very, very long time. Came out this way for an estate sale one glorious spring morning and saw this place on my way. The shop is very cute and cozy and you can eat in or take out. Since I was on a time crunch I opted to do take out. I bought a lavender lemon sconce a bacon cheddar scone an apple galette bag of four english muffins and a cold brew Ate the galette on my way to the sale and it was fresh and lovely. The cold brew was a bit of a disappointment, it was far too harsh to drink black, but the girl working there said they dont carry alternative milks? And at the moment they only had heavy cream? Well, that would not have done my GI tract any favors. Thought I could manage it black but no. It had to wait until I got all the way home to add oat milk, and then it was OK. Gave the bacon scone to the Mr and he liked it. The lavender scone was OK, I felt the flavors were too weak though. Popped the muffins into the freezer and had those the next week, they were very nice and fluffy even having been in the deep freeze. I'd be interested to eat there and see if the experience is any different, but PLEASE OFFER SOMETHING OTHER THAN DAIRY, thank you! read more

There's a bar and three two seater tables. There's another room that has about five tables of varying sizes. Already, I'm sold. There's a case displaying breads, scones, whoppie pies and other treats. There is a breakfast and lunch menu. Be advised, if you stop in for a mimosa, you'll have to wait until a liquor license is secured and the only time breakfast is served all day is on Sundays. On to the food. I had the macaroni and cheese with fries. Mac and cheese, so creamy, loaded with peas, crispy bacon and mushrooms. I was surprised, as I'm one that believes Mac and cheese, is just that...we can debate later! The bacon was crispy, giving a nice texture to the dish. You can ask for variations but I tell you, you'll be pleased. However, I'd be remiss if I didn't share. If you don't eat the Mac and cheese promptly, it will go cold and makes it a bit difficult to get down. I say, take it home to reheat as it is a large portion. My dining partner had the Butternut Bisque w/ pimento grilled cheese, it looked delicious and I'd say the speed in which it was eaten proved just how tasty it was. Hey, you're a trooper! I have been addicted to the Avocado Toast with pan fries ( the very best I've had) but lately I've discovered their grilled cheese sandwich with mixed greens salad or pan fries... I am in full blown cut calories holiday mode so had salad with balsamic which is a tad thick so dipping my sandwich into it was incredible. It was a decent burrito, but my friend's food looked much more appealing than mine. I should have gone with the biscuits and gravy, but oh well. If you are looking for a sit down breakfast or brunch, just be aware this is a small space. There is a nice breakfast bar area and few outside tables when the weather is nice, and a little back room with a few 2-seater and 3 larger tables. As a bakery this is a great addition to the town of New Albany. I have not tasted a baked item that is not good. Because of this the wife and I decided to grab some breakfast and head to the river to enjoy the weather. We both decided on the breakfast sandwich. She decided bacon without tomato and I went with sausage and kept the tomatoe because I wanted it the way they designed it. Ashley loved hers and really enjoyed it. She added some hot sauce and she raved about it. I wish that I could share her enthusiasm, but I was not a big fan. I mean it was okay. Here are my problems with the sandwich. 1. The sausage. This was a sweet sausage. This single item seemed to be where I had the dislike. I like traditional made sausage. I don't like maple flavored, but I xan like it if it is subtle. This was not. When I took my first bite and tasted it, I went this isn't right. I then tried a bite of the sausage by itself and well I just didn't like it. Sorry, some people will love it. Just not me. 2. The cheese fell off the sandwich. This made the sandwich messy that I feel could have been avoided. How? By putting the cheese on the top and not between the sausage and egg. The grease from the sausage mixed in. If it was just because of melt I say great, but it slide out in clumps more than melted out. 3. The bread. Man by it self it was the best thing of the sandwich. Good texture, hold up well, taste out of this world. But there was to much butter which made for greasy hands. As for the rest, The egg and the tomatoes. Went well together. Not a fan of tomatoes on sandwiches, even though I like tomatoes in general. This actually brought taste that complimented everything. With that being said, it was an okay sandwich. I will not order it again, and will try something different next time. As I said my wife loved hers and the bakery itself is to die for. That is why I gave them a 4. Oh and also the home fries made up the difference. They were very tasty.
