Leather Zone's Hratch Kechishian Is an artist she has the skill of an old world leather craftsman. I had torn my Harley Ultra Glide seat and expected to have to replace it, I spent quite some time going to different upholstery shops and custom motorcycle shops to try and get it repaired but I was unable to find anyone willing to fix it. Finally after speaking to Vic from "Vic's shoe repair" in Rockaway Borough, he sent me to his cousin. Ms. Kechishian in Sparta. She did such an incredible job and in less time than expected. It is in better condition then it was when it left the factory. She replaced the thin vinyl with leather and restitched the seams. The costs was a bargain and less then I would have spent buying a used seat off eBay. I wanted to love this place because of the great reviews. I dropped off my very rare vintage carpet bag to be cleaned and to have new handles attached. The owner, Zoe, assured me they knew how to care for that type of bag. I asked that they not rush because it's a delicate item and specifically requested they take their time. After about two and a half weeks, I called to see if my bag was ready, and they said yes. When I went to pick it up, I was so disappointed to see that one side of the bag seemed ruined. It looked like someone had scrubbed it, which completely destroyed the color. Not only that, but there was also a hole in the lining, which they later attempted to repair--even after I had asked them not to touch the bag until the owner returned from being out of town. I understand that mistakes happen, and I was more than willing to let them fix it. The first woman I spoke to was incredibly kind and patient. However, when I finally spoke with the owner, Zoe, she refused to admit they had done anything wrong. She repeatedly interrupted me, dismissed my concerns, and insisted her family had done this kind of work for generations. What was really odd was that when I told her I was at work and feeling stressed by the conversation, and asked her to please lower her voice, she mimicked me and said, "I'm in the office and you're stressing me out, please stop yelling at me," while practically yelling herself. She continued to downplay my concerns, told me to calm down, and accused me of overreacting. I asked to speak with someone else, since we clearly weren't communicating well, but she ignored me and continued loudly talking about her family history. Eventually, I got through to her that I had pictures of my bag before they damaged it. She kept insisting the bag looked "beautiful" and that the work was "beautiful." After I sent her the before-and-after photos, she replied with an image of the poor repair job to the lining, despite my explicit request that no repairs be made until I had spoken with her. She was still confrontational when I picked up my bag. I left work early because the whole experience made me feel they would further destroy it. I had to ask her around five times that I just wanted to pay for the handles and leave. She kept insisting the work was good, and then went further to say I was trying to ruin her business. This was the worst money I've ever spent. This whole experience was awful. I had really hoped to find a nice local place to bring my bags, but sadly, this wasn't it. read more

This place sucks and their prices are RIDICULOUSLY high. I brought in 2 bags. One needed an extra hook on the inside so it could be a crossbody bag. That was $25 or more, for a little leather piece with a round ring inside of it. Well, the ring isn't strong enough and after 3 times of my bag just falling off my shoulder b/c the ring broke free of the leather section, I lost the ring. So, a complete waste of money. Second bag needed a repair to the crossbody tab, it took them FOREVER to do it, charged me $75 dollars (I was literally stunned when she mentioned the price) but in order to strengthen the tab they took the leather FROM the crossbody strap, something like 5 inches for a tiny piece, and now the bag sits way too high on me. I've ended up using another crossbody strap for that bag, which looks ridiculous. Stay FAR away from them. It takes forever, the prices are completely out of whack for the little work they do and it's shoddy work to boot. read more

Leather Zone is my go to shop for all of my leather repairs. I've had them replace the lining and zipper of a very expensive stingray hand bag and they did a beautiful job. It looks brand new! Sting ray is a very difficult leather to work with but they know what they're doing and their workmaship is stellar! I often bring challenging projects to them like a pair of expensive high fashion boots from Germany with thick cast rubber soles that broke. Zoe is willing to open them and see if they can be repaired. I'm always willing to pay what they ask because they are honest about what they can and cannot do and stand behind the work. I'm a professor in a well known fashion design school and I've had my own fashion business so I know what it takes to do the kind of work you find at Leather Zone. I also know how difficult it is to find the skill to work with expensive and rare leather goods. When I read negative reviews like the 2 below I wonder if someone just didn't want to pay for the cost of repairs???... and if the zipper on the backpack malfunctioned, I've no doubt Zoe would replace it to make it right?! read more

The reason why this place gets one star is because I brought a Steve Madden backpack that I was gifted to them and they "fixed" my backpack because it needs a new zipper but then, it didn't work after one day. I will NEVER go back there. If you can't replace a zipper on a backpack so that it can be replaced and work for more than one day, you really need to reconsider being a repair shop. I was very happy at first because I thought they fixed my zipper and I could use the backpack over and over again but after one day, the zipper split open again and still doesn't close so, this place sucks. read more

I am so happy I found this place. I have brought several pairs of shoes in to be repaired and they are very honest as to whether they can do it or not. Recently I took a pair of shoes in to have the Velcro straps replaced. Very reasonably priced. I normally would've thrown the shoes out then thought to call Leather Zone. They said it was no problem.
